Lovely memories from you Superselect.
I am posting some pictures for memories of Ambassadors.

This one is a black Mark I parked in Teen Murti House on 28th May 1964, when the late J.L. Nehru's funeral cortège was leaving his residence for Shanti Van. Incidentally the first ever manufactured Mark II Ambassador (a black one) was gifted to the late Mr J.L. Nehru by HM in early 1964 a few months before his sad demise

These two are Mark 4 advertisements from February 1979

This is a 1983 advertisement for the Hindustan Porter(the brand name Ambassador was done away with for this variant)

Cover Story in Auto India for the Ambassador(a rare feat as most auto journalists keep a safe distance from this great big car)

@ Aah78 : This is with reference to Post #12, My post has been merged with another post by someone else, guess with JayD's post. Could you sort that out please.
Edit from aah78: Sorry, cannot unmerged now but have marked out the discrepancy in your post.

Saw this Landmaster a few days back...

Such a well maintained car but why that bonnet is not sitting tight?

One of the best Ive seen in a long time, barring the hideous upholstry. The bonnet is probably just not shut fully that's all.

JayD, did you notice the steering wheel?

I've sat in this landmaster that Jay posted. Immaculate!

EDIT: But it had the IVORY steering wheel then - still without the horn ring, though.

Jay, this is a clean car with too much originality. Its a 1954/55 example as there are no semaphores, there are white dials on the Smiths instruments and so on.The gear lever is original.
The upholstery need some original touches.

May be Steer can give more inputs about it as he's seen the car in person and sat in it too.

Here is the Landmaster Owned by the owner of National Garage. Mechanically, the car is RUBBISH. And originality wise too it aint anything great. Have a look.

The car is whimsically redone. Amby somewhere and Landy somewhere (bumpers and bodyshell of a Landy). This car was featured in Autocar India magazine a few years back.

Yup, it is the same car. It is often visible in the showroom of National Garage. Id never seen it up close and it looks dissapointing. Even the engine appears to be OHV.

We picked the car up at 5 30 in the morning and the car woudnt start. Then, when it finally started, it just woudnt idle. Then, it woudnt go into First. And second..And third. Then it woudnt go into revese. The Clutch is really bad. I dont know how the guy drives it. And to add insult to injury, the ignition coil stopped working so we had to use my extra coil from my car and start it. Then, the Carb was really chocked and jammed. Finally i got frustrated and set the car at a faster engine speed and got it back.

Cyrus do you mean you were going to test drive this Land/Ambmaster with the intent of buying it? What was the asking price?
