The Mk 2 was launched around 62-63 from what Ive seen. I can't confirm it though.

Spotted a gleaming landy yesterday bearing regn # 55 I think with IND type plates. The guy behind the wheel looked like a double of apna mad mullah zakko. Unfortunately it was raining and I was unable to snap a pic.

Is this the infamous lady that Steeroid took the pains to restore?

An excellent car. Looks like new. Very well restored & maintained. Congrats

@ boeuff, the car looks amazing, but the dual tone paintjob with the metallic colour just dosen't suit the car. Also, the meters are in the wrong position. The speedo should be on the right and the fuel guage pod on the left!!

The Mark II was launched in 1962, I think too without any record at hand. It's just something that has stayed from hearsay since childhood and the memories of some '62 Mark IIs in the family apparently bought as a novelty when the model was just introduced.

Btw, Karl, regarding MTJ 5492, one never knows - in the olden days I have known of vehicles getting re-registered with an older series in the new state:). So there, please:?

Saw this Old Amby near my Old office sometime back...

A pretty clean looking Mark 3. Only those rubber bumper guards are from Mark 4.

Yes Jay. The wiper style is original. The Mk 4 was the first Amby to have wipers designed only for RHD.

The wipers are original, the black car is a Mk1, Looks neat, but the rims on the car are from a newer model. From its front heavy stance, i think the car could be a diesel.

Dont know whats up but Iv been spotting a LANDY everyday for the last 3 days !! Got only 1 pic to show for it though....

The one I spotted on comm. street the other day was the pick of the lot. Though I only got a fleeting glance.

Second one is the pic Iv posted. Some quirky mods here and there like the black colour combo and rims etc.

Third is lying at a garage and seems to be out of commision will try and get a pic when possible.

The Mark II was launched in early 1964 and the first black one to roll off the HM's Uttarpara assembly line was gifted by the Late Mr Brij Mohan Birla ( father of present Chairman Mr Chandrakant Birla) to the late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Panditji passed away on May 27th 1964. Panditji owned one Hindusthan 14 (Morris Oxford MO Series) as his personal car which even the Late Mr Rajiv Gandhi used to drive occasionally, even in the 1980's.

Just back from trips to Kolkata and Mumbai. Like Kolkata is nothing minus Ambys Mumbai thrives with its Fiats. Sighted some lovely classics in Kolkata. A mid 1960's Mark II here in which the dash plays spoilsport in the otherwise original cream car.
