Two tone colours were never offered on Delights, I would suggest you stick to a period single shade, ideally the one on the car right now.

Shyam's car has the original interiors though black rexine covers were fitted over (which you saw). That is the incorrect pattern, the correct is underneath but not visible till I rip out the fixed covers. Check your car for the same, it is likely that the original upholstry is underneath. My car is temporarily in hibernation with a blown head gasket, will get to it soon.

Bala great car! I am sure you will do justice to it. Remember the lesser you sway from the path of originality the greater your car will appreciate over time.

What Shyam says about the hubcaps and the grill is very true. i am not sure your car needs a lot of restoration and in the interim a good polish and detailing will make her a nice daily use classic.

Once all the problems (if any )are sorted out you can go for a more comprehensive restoration. I would stick with a single colour and the current one on your car looks very period. Try getting it polished, the real deal will come out.

I only know what is mentioned in the RC book when I'd last seen it. It was registered with only one owner all along, a Lt. Col. in Secunderabad. Incidentally, I happened to even see their house (now rented out to some co. :() when I went to that area.
This house/car was just 2 compounds away from the house where THIS car was parked:

Bala, I know curiosity killed the cat as they say, but if you're ok with it, try to do a little prodding under the current seat-covers, ie. wherever there is any tear, see if you can find the originals under them. In many cases, as karl says, they are left intact with the new covers just stitched over. Good luck!

Guru gaaru, why not do a little bit more sniffing around and a few more trips to nimmagE gujiri and find a reasonably restorable delight instead?!
Incidentally, there was another team bhpian with a navy blue '67 delight with the ID 'ronk' who was also based in B'lore IIRC. He used to post about his car here often, seemed to have lost interest later. I am given to understand he sold off his car!

For tone color with the same body color, I was thinking of dark grey or off white.
Yes dark grey (steel grey) was offered as a colour choice, but off-white somehow seems way too common to me, atleast w.respect to fiats in hyd!
How about coffee (light brown), bala? Or powder blue, like shiva's elegant? These too are both pastel colours.

Congrats chanu!
I have sad memories about President (Delite) as I let one deal slip through my hands and someone else bought it for iron price without realizing its value.

Illa da. Presently I am satisfied with what I have.

The condition(body, engine, tranny, fittings) of my grey Padmini is almost like new. After DELIGHTing it, it will become like a new Delight(Go anywhere, anytime types). I am sure this is better than buying a screwed up Delight and restoring it.

I am not going to sell any car in future, so the originality doesn't matter. Its just for my satisfaction. In future when I earn enough money I will buy such Classic Fiats.

Regarding saving Delights from breaking, I see around 10 Delights breaking every month. Most of them are very bad. I am not in a financial position to keep buying whichever good Fiat arrives in Gujiri.

The colors I was referring to (steel grey and off white) was for the second color in two tone with the stock grey color.

Beautiful DELIGHT!

Chanu, you are very lucky to find this beautiful DELIGHT with period "OH REE G NAL" fittings and trim.

If the Bumpers and Grill are Factory fitted then my hats off to the previous owner for such preservative maintenance.

DELIGHTS in such 'VIRGIN' condition are rare to find today.

Wish you all the BESHT and hope you enjoy this DELIGHTFul ownership.

So we call this car Appu?! If you are restoring the car now, please post detailed pics of the restoration.
Indeed Arun I am lucky to get this car and I owe to Shyam for this.
Wow! that's a cute little name "Appu" my family also likes it. Thanks Arun (in my community Mama (mom's brother) does the naming part so you've become my relative, from now onwards she will be called Appu at home.

Thanks President I have got more than what I asked for, As far as bumpers are concerned I guess it should be factory fitted however Shyam is the better person to throw light on this. I will safegaurd and cherish this Italian angel for my lifetime.

Definately I agree to you sir, Originality would be the first priority to me on this car as most of the other restoration I've done till now. as said fortunately I need not do much parts, cosmetics hunting. I may not use her as a daily car however will sure try the polishing and detailing work soon.

Yes I am looking for a more detailed restoration though it will take some time as my jeep is under restoration and my priority for now. I don't want to take up Appu's restoration for the heck of doing it. She is a Gem and I need to do complete justice here aswell.

Till now I was not aware that Delight has not come in two tone pattern but now I will stick to single colour concept. This leaves a question in my mind how about the wheel rims can it be coloured in off white with white wall tyres (if available but I wish to have guys pl help)

Today's merchendise

Yesterday was another day adding to the joy of bringing Appu home. I brought the car with one of the important component/cosmetic missing as it was promised to be given today and was brought back to Appu. To get this consignement I had to do a lot of struggle on road and that left pain in my left shoulder (No cargo facility on my Bullet) so I had to do the hamali work (carry the load) however the pain is no pain with the gain.

check out the intensity of caring by the seller, they are 2 Aluminium ones and 2 steel caps however a hole drilled in between them. Can anything be done to this, please suggest.

The wheel rims should be in silver, they never came in any other colour.

The originals should probably be aluminium. A very skilled craftsman may be able to fill up the hole with solder/brazing/m-seal etc but it may look tacky. Other option is to fabricate a small coin size logo with Fiat script and stick it over the centre.

What is the status of the clips on the wheels? If any are missing or weak sinply fit these hubcaps with a bolt to secure them.

Also a good colour (IMHO)
But being very dark, almost like black, it would need extra maintenance. If you can afford to spend the time on that, well and good. But I feel powder blue would be all the more better. I incidentally remember another delight (also with an APU regn.) in this colour that was parked at RP road daily, nearly 10 years ago. It was in need of some TLC though. 'dont see it anymore.

Okay then we shall paint in silver. Yes I have two aluminium hub caps, I need to check with my bike mechaninc as I remember he got the Harley Davidson carved on a metal plate/sheet so it should not be difficult for that guy to carve fiat logo at the place where its filled with metal, let me check with him. The other Idea of a coin shaped metal/brass with Fiat logo is also bright.

I am sure others would have experienced the same (hub caps with a hole) does anyone has any experience in fixing them or is it that I need to live with it.

Powder blue is also a good option (blue is my fav colour) I haven't seen any Fiat Delight with that shade here. I am considering powder blue seriously for Appu.

Now a days I am dreaming of Appu at a body shop with red oxide/primer on it. for now I want to give Appu & Padmini a through wash, oil chainge (padmini had it), greasing etc and then try polishing work in sometime and then Shyam we need to go to your guy for an estimate of body work, painting cost etc.

Bala bhai why not keep the car in current shade. Getting it painted in this shade will save you a lot of money and you can use that to store cosmetic and mechanical bits for the car as restoration will not last for a life time but our ambition towards fiat will. If you want an idea as to how a silver car (actually 1100D) looks i can mail you the pics of one car i know.
