I was recently caught in between such a mini convoy of a so-called VIP. There were about 4 or 5 vehicles. Couple of them zoomed past me and overtook a me and a truck while another one was hogging the other lane. A typical zig-zag maneuver . But I was maintaining some safe distance from the trucks and did not want do the same. The VIP car couldn't pass through and they were staring angrily at me for staying in my left lane and maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle in front of me.

These mid-level self proclaimed VIPs are a problem, they don't have an official protocol, so no police escort to clear the traffic or trained drivers/security detail. Just some half-goons as drivers and other men in the car. Sorry for ranting....

Retired CMC Vellore Professor, Dr. Debashish Danda died in a truck underride near Vellore.
He was driving a VW Virtus 1.5 DSG at the time of crash.

This crash shows the reality that, without a proper rear underride bar fitted to trucks as per standards, star ratings doesn't really matter.

In an underride without a proper underride bar, the crumple zone is bypassed as the car goes under the truck and chances of survival are near zero.

We should start impounding trucks without proper underrides and if any accidents happen, such trucks should be sent directly to junk yard, and entire fleet from that transport company should be re-doing their fitness certificates.

Exactly my point. When the convoy of cars pass with police protection they zoom at unprecedented speeds. This kind of entitlement is a blot on on our political system. The drivers driving politicians are very careless and extremely aggressive, they know very well that the politician will cover their accidents in any case. Everything points fingers at political system, hence better to stop here.

I don't understand the Maruti bashing on this one though I personally would never buy their car for the safety aspect.
The crash happened at high speeds as evidenced by the stuck speedometer and the passenger apparently had bypassed seat belts. A crash at 100kmh is very high speed, most crash tests are done at around 65 km/h.
You could be sitting in a Model 3 Tesla and still may not make it out alive if you crash at 100 km/h without seat belts.

I feel that the political drivers are very rude and are usually in a rush mindset to reach their destination. Here also that might be the case.

And I have seen the comments posting media snippets showing that said politician is in the front row. That is wrong and I think the media is trying to portray that there is no mistake on her part. I have seen the video of the incident and Police are trying to take her body out from the second row.

Finally, this incident once again proves the importance of passenger seat belts and IMO car manufacturers should implement continuous audible warning signs for all passenger seat belts.

We all want to regulate trucks which is a step in the right direction. But what about the rash drivers behind the wheels who drive at break-neck speeds and endanger other people on the road. Although am not aware of the details of the accident but finally it is the driver's responsibility not to hit other vehicles. What is if had hit the divider crossed the road to the other side and hit a smaller vehicle? People who are found driving more 20% of the speed limit should have their license confiscated.

100kmph is merely 62mph in US speedo. Those speeds are only recreational in the US. I have not commented on passenger not wearing seat belt. I have passed through that stretch many times and it’s likely that the driver was in rightmost lane and as he slept the car veered to the left until it was perpendicular to the highway when the crash happened.
Tesla you won’t feel a thing at 62mph crash into siderail.
The point it the car has not taken enough impact to safeguard the driver. The front of the car leaves nothing to be said. Rest each and everyone can decide.
The speeds on the stretch are 120 k mph for two right most lanes, 100kmph for two left lanes.

Its about time that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways conducts some sort of stringent checks on this. May be Morth should automate the detection of underrun bars in toll booths through the cameras they already use. If under run bar not detected, toll amount should be tripled.

Another instance of an idiot biker trying to cross lanes with impunity. The Nexon driver manages to brake just in time to avoid a collision, but a truck coming from behind, even after braking hard, ends up rear-ending the Nexon.

On this topic, there are 100s of videos and pics available in the public domain where the politicos and certain celebrities riding their car (some of them in Lexus, Mercedes, Range Rover, Fortuner and what not) without seat belts. What's the use of warnings etc. when you can bypass them with simple hacks (like clipping the belt from behind etc.)

In some cases front passengers do wear seat belts but the rear passengers don't. Seatbelt is a cheap safety device compared to the expensive safety "device" - safe driving habits.
