It's heartening to see this. Thar was the least expected vehicle in the Mahindra stable to get such a good rating. Even the body shell is rated as stable.

Was this a voluntary test got by Mahindra or randomly picked by Global NCAP?

Attaching the full crash test report. I am glad that the body shell was rated as stable. Also pretty impressed by the child safety ratings. In fact, many so called family cars are unable to score this high, despite having ISOFIX. Looks like Mahindra and Tata have found safety as their new USP:

Can't be, but AOP for frontal offset impact can be compared. Which for the Jeep Wrangler, is nothing like the result of the Thar.

Structure was rated unstable and chest showed weak protection. So that's clearly inferior.

Absolutely amazing what Mahindra has achieved. I was skeptical before on how well the Thar would perform after seeing the Wrangler crash test but kudos to their incredible engineering. Take a bow Mahindra.

Definitely the Indian manufacturers are setting the bar really high for the competition when it comes to safety. And with the pace they are improving the other aspects of their products, in addition to safety, good days are definitely ahead for the Indian manufactuers.

No more excuses will be entertained from Koreans or whoever it maybe, especially after seeing what Mahindra has achieved with a difficult body on frame SUV and at the price point it sells in

Kudos to Mahindra for doing it again. Proving again that it doesn’t cost a fortune to make safe cars. New Thar was already a wonderful machine and now it ticks safety parameter as well.

@ Mahindra: Hope you go all guns blazing marketing this and of course please feel free to take a dig(just like TATA) at our market leaders with pleasure.

P.S: Am sure quite a few people would feel uneasy about this, specially the YouTube auto experts

NCAP procedure is to randomly select vehicles from production.
Usually there is a lot of waiting period for the slot in crash test agencies. Its good to see that Mahindra to deliver the cars requested by agency on priority. Clearly, TATA motors and Mahindra want to show that proof of the pudding is in eating.

This stellar performance from a budget Body on Frame 4X4 SUV. Kudos to Mahindra again for making this one as safe for 4-Star safety rating.

I would definitely pick up the 5 door version when in market. The Japs & Koreans, in particular, can learn a lot from Indian manufacturers.

I hope Indian manufacturers pick up marketing skill & have goodwill as average Japs sooner or later.
