Had a fool do that swing back and forth, zigzag in front of me the other day - on a bicycle. 11th or 12th standard school kid. Missed hitting him by a whisker.

These are all par for the course in a day's drive in Trivandrum! Lucky that the auto driver didn't give a hard stare back at you for interfering in his "privilege" of driving in whatever way he wants! And less said about pedestrians the better! Even if you just look at them , they will say " yentha, nokki pedipikkunno? Vandiyilu brake ille? " (translates roughly to " Don't try to scare by your staring! Don't you have brake in your vehicle?)

Re: Bad Drivers - How do you spot 'em

T junctions with a no free left sign, and a petrol pump at one corner of the T, bring out the worst in drivers. Such as the LB road petrol pump T junction in adyar, chennai.

No free left is routinely ignored even if a couple of buses are crossing the T right in front of them.

Two wheelers driving down the wrong side of the road instead of driving almost to the end and taking a u turn

People cutting across your front from the opposite side of the road - after you get a green - to reach the petrol pump.

That and much more every time I drive past that junction.

Of course it is only at peak hours that there's a cop there if ever, never mind that the adyar j2 traffic police station is just down the road.

10: People following too closely – I touch my brakes and accelerate and watch the fun as they panic

This is the worst part. They fail to maintain literally no bumper to bumper distance. I make a sudden stop, they are more probable to bump into me.

For this I usually gradually brake so that they know am going slow and they'll be forced to overtake me, and I'll just leave way. (I like to cruise)
This is one way to get rid of these drivers.

on a general note, no one likes to be followed up close. Back off

Re: Bad Drivers - How do you spot 'em

The auto drivers who always pass other cars by an inch or so wasnt lucky this time. The auto side swipes another auto (I didnt notice any damage). But as always, they start fighting right in the middle of the road. Few honks didnt budge him but the shop keepers asked them to fight by the side of the road and they continued .

Re: Bad Drivers - How do you spot 'em

Near Silkboard junction around noon: A young lady driving a grey i20 (reg# MH-14-DN-xxxx), yammering on her phone, swinging between lanes and gaps, nearly missed side-slamming at least a dozen vehicles including a couple of BMTC Volvos. She also nearly ran over a poor old woman beggar trying to cross the signal, and then honked the daylights out of her for daring to 'cross too slowly'.

She swung in & out of traffic for another km or so before swinging into the service lane, narrowly missing a couple on a bike. Frustrating to see women drivers descending to 'rowdy cabbie' levels, joining their already bat-crap crazy brethren on our congested roads.

Somebody suggested a sticker: The closer you get the slower I will drive. Which is basically what I do. I'd like to get the sticker! I have far, far ruder ideas, but these words would do.

I'm using this word far too often in this thread, but: bikers.

Bikers who pass so close that even winding down the window might knock them off. Worse: Bikers who pass between two vehicles, equally close to both. A change in the wind coud cause a fatal accident, let alone a touch on steering wheel by either driver.
