You can take this route but it is very circuitous. Mysore-Hunsur-Tithimathi-Gonikoppal-Ponnampet-Srimangala-Kutta-Tholpetty-Mananthavady. This route is open 24/7 although it passes through the outer edge of Nagarhole. I don;t know about the road conditions though.

Thanks man. We have a send off party for our friend who is going to US soon. So we have to spend a night in a resort for reasons you can guess what for. Since we cannot start from bangalore before 5PM and cross the checkpost before 9PM , I am currently checking resorts before checkpost: Hows this one Jungle Inn, Nagarahole - Wildlife resort at Nagarahole, Kabini (Rajiv Gandhi National Park), Nagarahole (Nagarhole), Karnataka. . Others like kabini lake view, the bison etc are very expensive for me.

Jungle inn is 2-3 kms before the checkpost. We are planning to checkout by Sunday evening (5PM) from resort and would be heading to Kochi. What would be the best route from nagarhole to Kochi. Should we take tholpetty->mananthavady->thamarasery->kozhikode bypass->thrissur route OR gundalpet->sathyamangalam->coimbatore road?. I had taken the sathyamangalam->coimbatore route from bangalore a couple of weeks back and the roads were in excellent condition. Can anyone give an update on nagarhole->tholpetty route till thamaraserry? Hows the wayanad ghat these days as rain has started

Jungle inn is an OK place, we had a Team BHP meet there a year back, meet report has lot of snaps of the place. Try to book in there new building, old rooms needed a face lift though was not dirty.

My feedback's are

- Very basic facilities and rooms like in a old traditional house (new block is different), no luxuries like of resort
- Very tasty food though the menu is very simple, many items are locally sourced
- Spacious campus with lot of open/green
- Near to forest checkpost. If lucky can spot wildlife at the resort gate
- Value for money place

Re: Bangalore-Wayanad route /places to stay

Sharing my 2 cents of recent experience, if of any help, though I did notice that the thread starter has change of plans to look for a staying place before the check post -don't want to look fully Off-topic.
Few days back on a weekend, we had been to Wayanad. It was just a quick trip and we stayed at a place (a rather newly started one with a fresh renewated look) - a homestay called "Valentine Villa". It is near to Meppadi, not in the main NH route, very close to Soochippara water falls which is a popular tourist attraction of the area. Just less than a km before you reach the vehicle parking area for the waterfalls, it was easily noticeable on the left hand side, after the drive through splendid Tea gardens. I got the reference from a friend towards its web presence too - valentinewayanad dot com, when I looked around for a homestay type facility near to the water falls area. The place having around 5 to 6 rooms was calm, clean and provided required facilities for our family with 2 toddlers; cost was around 2000 for the night. Food on offer was simple and very tasty to savour during the trip. Roads were in good condition, though some portions of the ghats (the way we took to reach Meppadi from Calicut) were in process of wearing out- and rains were in full force for a portion of the ghat drive. Of course, our FIAT glided along.

This was part fulfilling of my every remaining dream of covering various parts in Kerala during the rains...! :-)

Good to hear that Punter. I too would have chosen to stay somewhere at wayanad, but cannot start from bangalore before 5PM, so crossing checkpost wont be possible before 9PM

Altogether,

Vythri is expensive and having stayed there twice - once thanks to company - , i dont see it as VFM. You can look at other good options

a) Rain Country resort - Rain Country Resort ? A jungle resort in Wayanad Kerala India | Wayanad Tourism

b) Fringeford - Welcome to Fringe Ford

c) Banasura Island Resort - Wayanad Tourism | Accommodation in Wayanad Kerala| Jungle Luxury Resort in Wayanad Kerala

d) Glenora homestay - Glenora Homestay - Premium Homestay in Wayanad, Kerala, Farm Tourism Provider in Wayanad

e) Banasura hill resort - Awesome location. Food was average when we were there in May. I understand that they have improved.
Banasura Resort - Wayanad | Kerala Eco Hotel | Nature Resorts | India

Please bargain with all of them as this is some sort of off season.

You can take a look at my short TL on Wayanad here

The only resort I've stayed at in Wayanad is Vythiri Resorts.
As @Fauji has mentioned, Vythiri Resorts is not VFM.

Recently, Windflower has opened in Vythiri but again very high tariffs, not sure if it's worth that money.
I've also heard good opinions about Wynberg Resorts and also a new farmstay/homestay at Meppadi that is owned by a doctor from Bangalore but can't seem to remember the name

I would suggest you to go by @Fauji's suggestions, they're bound to be good

Re: Bangalore-Wayanad route /places to stay

@Fauji : Bansura resort is supposed to be even more expensive than vythri.
I have heard good things about rain country resort. A colleague of mine claims it to be better than vythri.

Are you referring to Aaranyakam in Meppadi ? I've heard good reports about this place, but have no idea about the tariff. Check out their homepage at http://www.aranyakam.com/

Re: Bangalore-Wayanad route /places to stay

We did a BLR->Waynad->BLR couple of years ago and had stayed at Ashirvad Home Stay. The place is reasonable, neat and clean. We found it very good as we spent most of our time outdoors exploring the place and we also drove to Kozikode. So, we felt this place was VFM.

I agree with Karty on Banasura. They are also not VFM. My presonal choice is Fringeford or Rain country. Haven't stayed but have heard good things
About them. Their location looks lovely and very crowded unlike Vythri and Banasura hill.

Re: Bangalore-Wayanad route /places to stay

Guys,
I've opted to stay at HotelMintFlower in Sulthan Bathery and from there travel to different places of Wayanad. Would be vising Lakkidi valley view point, Soochippara falls, Banasura sagar dam on one of the days. And Kuruva Island, Tholpetty Wild Life Santuary on the other day.
Would like to know any good afternoon lunch destinations while roaming in Wayanad on these days.

Thanks very much.
