Here's a link to one of the innumerable times I've driven that route.

^Hope, it is the quintessential human delusion, simultaneously the source of your greatest strength, and your greatest weakness

If he were to drive an SUV, I would have really given the green signal.

I am still fighting for the ticket to Ddun and there aint any even in tatkal :((

I usually drive a Scorpio on these routes. I would still say no. The only way by road would be a Taxi or a Deluxe bus.
My boss, who hails from Doon as well, told me about the Volvo service being restarted. I haven't found any evidence of the same, but please do look into it! (There have been talks forever on this subject!)

@SS Sir
No one inspires me more than you.

Here's a gentleman who wants to do a small (<300-km) drive in his newly acquired Figo which he is certainly proud of, from Delhi to Mussoorie, and he has all the time in the world to go to Mussoorie & come back the same day because he's leaving home at 4:30 AM...

...and here we have members on Team-BHP seriously dissuading him from doing so. They say, take a taxi, take a bus, take the train, take an SUV, take a hike...

Get real guys! That journey is do-able in any decent car by any sensible driver - not a worry at all. The road has people travelling on it, is being repaired currently, and the proposed journey will be safe.

There are no safety issues at all. I have been traveling this route ever since I was a little kid.

What I meant to say was that the drive will be anything but enjoyable thanks to the road conditions! :P

And not everyone is like you sir! You drove Delhi-Pune in one go!

Thanks, EssYouWe - give others a chance too!

@perseus: If you haven't been persuaded to take out your car for this drive yet...

Will look forward to your travelogue on your return.

Unfortunately, I will now not be going to Dehradun. I was supposed to meet my sister there for her birthday. But now she has got her leaves approved and will be coming to Delhi (Shatabdi for her). Somehow managed to get CWG closing ceremony passes.

Thanks for the help guys. Especially SS-Traveller sir. This route is definitely on the cards for next month.

^ha ha ha

Man proposes God disposes. I am sure the roads will be completed before the onset of winters which is always the case so the ride next month will be great.

Anyone knows more on NH2 how is the Delhi Vrindavan road doing?

Cheers!

Delhi to Mussoorie this weekend - but what path to choose!!

Hey guys, I'm still a newbie to team bhp, though I have one humble thread to my credit (My ICE install)

I'm planning a drive to Mussourie this Friday - amd am a little confused about the route I should take - I've only recently moved to Delhi, so I'm still figuring out the roads here. The plan to to drive more or less nostop, leaving at about 4 in the morning.

I'd be very grateful if guys familiar with this route can give me a few points. I've done a fair amount of hill driving, so that won't be an issue. My ride is a Swift petrol, I will be driving alone. I also have a GPS in the car, but it sometimes behaves michevously, and I don't want to end up making a pitstop in Kayakumari. I also should mention that my sense of direction is about as useless as a compass needle made of plastic

I'm an IT guy recently turned professional photographer, so I promise I'll put up pictures once I'm back

A little help ? I know you guys probably have better things to do but seriously, with my damn GPS and my sense of direction, I pretty sure I'll be going in the opposite direction within ten minutes of starting if you guys don't pitch in

The most frequented route is :

DELHI - GHAZIABAD - MODINAGAR - MEERUT - KHATAULI - MUZZAFARNAGAR

- SAHARANPUR - CHHUTMALPUR - DEHRADUN - MUSSOORIE!

Few Pointers to the journey:
  • Break/Rest at CHEETAL GRAND (KHATAULI)
  • Watch For Traffic Congestion in MUZAFFARNAGAR
  • Try JAIN SHIKANJI in MODINAGAR. Brilliant!

An Important Point for your trip :

If you are planning a night stay in Mussoorie or nearby towns this weekend (Oct 22 - Oct 24), ensure you have prior confirmed reservations at a hotel. While Mussoorie doesn't require prior reservation, this weekend happens to have founders' Day celebrations of two of the biggest schools in this region.

Just a suggestion
If you don't want to go state HW from MUZZAFARNAGAR continue on NH-58 till ROORKEE take a left to reach CHHUTMALPUR in a very short time and the road is good

P.S You save time passing through saharanpur (~30-40 min)

Cheers

@ sid1509, akhilesh51, ricky_1605, sanagg1 - thank you so much guys, I'd almost cancelled the drive because I had no idea of what to expect on the highways - with the info you guys have provided, I think I'm going to give this a shot Will keep you posted, thanks once again for taking the time to give a directionless soul a virtual compass You guys may wonder why the hell a guy with no sense of direction is attempting a solo drive on unknown roads and all that, but hell, I love to drive What's a wrong turn now and then?
