Agree, used to be horrendous when brand new but a bit better now. Anyway, a disgrace of a newly concretized highway in those specific sections.

Re: Bangalore to Tirupati : Route Queries

Dear Frends,

I will be driving to Tirupati tomorrow, Sunday September 8th, departing Bangalore around noon. I will be taking the Kolar route. I hear that there is a flood situation in parts of Andhra. Should I be concerned?

Regards,

Narayan.

Sorry for delayed reply and though it is already late - but to answer your question, Absolutely not.
I drove to Tirupati on Saturday 7th Sep evening and returned on Sunday 8th Sep evening.

One good thing is, finally some sense prevailed, that in AP, they are tarring all the bridges one after other that causes horrendous jump in bridge joints.
If they finish it for all the bridges, that will be much better.

Re: Bangalore to Tirupati : Route Queries

To second the above, we drove to/fro to Tirupati on the Kolar route yesterday afternoon and this afternoon post Darshan. Roads are excellent in certain parts, Great in the others. Some inevitable road works for a few hundred meters at best.

We stopped by at the Heritage Parlour (about 15-20 mins drive from base of the Hill).

We also tried the new STRR from Hoskote and took the exit at Devanhalli. The roads are world class and a pleasure to drive.

Where is this dangerous Mogili section? Ghastly accident. May their souls rest in peace.

I drove through the scene of this absolutely devastating accident yesterday afternoon. There was a massive pileup and the road had oil flowing on it and a strong smell of diesel.

There were quite a few locals who were helping manage traffic and providing help to the ones who survived.

I'm not entirely sure as to where this exact section falls but it is surrounded by a forest on either sides.

This is between Palamaner Ghat and Bangarupalayam. Here is the location.
This is indeed one of the dangerous sections to drive carefully and slowly, due to couple of curves. If the speed is not in check, then its high risk. Many vehicles frequently toppled and met with accident in this section before 4L conversion.
Post 4L conversion, accidents reduced, but still not enough.

Here is the gmaps location.
https://maps.app.goo.gl/MLGm3mf9cqrcvRvv8

On a side note, they did kept a big picture of Yamadharma raja in this section to indicate how dangerous is this section, particularly the S bend curve.

Those who are driving in this section, watch out folks, reduce your speed and drive safe. Remember all vehicles don't have ABS or ESP, even though your vehicle may have one. So we got to be careful to practice safe driving.

I did this 2 weeks back, BLR to Tirupathi and back, didn't notice any speed cameras but I kept my car 98 cruise most of the route.

Re: Bangalore to Tirupati : Route Queries

Cross posting from my other post (Tirumala / Tirupati Seegradarshanam query) on tirumala tirupati seeghradarshanam thread.

Please refer my other post for detailed experience. However, purely from drive/route perspective, sharing additional information below:

1. The roads have quite dense fog in mornings. Please exercise caution. See below images from my trip on 08-Nov.
Bangalore to Tirupati : Route Queries-fog-highway4.jpeg Bangalore to Tirupati : Route Queries-fog-highway5.jpg Bangalore to Tirupati : Route Queries-fog-highway6.jpg

2. On Palamer section which had unscientifically made rough Concerete roads and flyovers - they road quality was better vs what I saw in Dec'23. I saw less of construction and the most of the joints are smoothened out. But one cannot be care free - so drive with caution but it will be less of pain.

3. Upto Mulbagal, highway repair work and flyover construction work started on what was a rather good 4 lane highway. So, expect diversions into service roads and getting stuck behind slow moving trucks/trailers.

4. Very important and new learning The new electric buses operated by TTD are hoot in the uphill ghat roads with all the tonnes of instant torque available from stand still. Result- they compete with other electric TTD buses and all other vehicles - so overtaking them is going to be a challenge. Please be patient.

Re: Bangalore to Tirupati : Route Queries

I usually take the Vellore route starting from Electronic City, but this time thinking of taking KR Puram-Hoskote route.

Any good spots for breakfast? I will be starting around 7 AM.

Earlier the only option was Highway Star which was quite disappointing.

Have any new spots come up?

My friend and I drove in that route, a fortnight ago on our visit to Tirupati and we had breakfast at Tirupati Hotel, Mulbagal Dosa Point at Mulbagal town.

I have to admit, it was one of the best Dosa I have had in recent times. Definitely worth a visit/ try.

I heard people travel from Bangalore to Mulbagal just to eat this Dosa.

There are a string of hotels on your left on highway along a small 100 mtr stretch. This is the last hotel in the string of hotels..

If you did visit this place for breakfast, let's know how it went.

Multiple good options all of which we have tried and are really good.
1. Murugan Idli just after Kolar
2. Aaradhya Grand just after Kolar but needs an u-turn
3. Krishna Grand between Mulbagal and Palamner, again needs u-turn

Re: Bangalore to Tirupati : Route Queries

We had pretty bad experience at "VVR SRI SRINIVASA GRAND"https://maps.app.goo.gl/hbWtiKqX1qR8MQ6Z8 not once but twice. We went second time to give a chance.

Both the times, the food was far below quality, and extremely oily. In spite of giving feedback, the later orders were also very oily and too much of masala, masking every tastebuds. Shocking was the claim that the oil in the food was actually the ghee and good for health. If it was Ghee, then I'm more disappointed about the quality of the ghee.

Having said that, nice parking, decent service and right place to take a break and okay sort of restrooms. Of course the price is just like any 4-star restaurant in Bangalore.

Re: Bangalore to Tirupati : Route Queries

We had a blessed darshan at Tirupati on 13th March 2025.

Drove the Audi A4. With four new Continental tyres, the vehicle performed as always.

We started at 8 am from Bangalore North. The route taken was:
Bangalore Airport Toll – STRR Road towards Hoskote – Bethamangala – Palamner – Chittoor – Tirupati – Tirumala.

There was no traffic on the STRR Road.

We took about 5 and half hours to reach Tirumala after a 40 minute break for breakfast after Airport Toll at Adyar Ananda Bhavan. A2B breakfast was not up to the usual mark in this place.
