Its pretty simple. After you enter Karnataka, you will pay toll at Attibele and continue. After this you will hit the First Traffic Signal (Huskur Gate).

There is no entry from the Signal to the service road.

So continue straight after this signal, you will spot the toll booth.

Simply pass this toll booth from its left and you will automatically get onto service lane.

Continue on this service lane for almost 3/4th of a Km and you hit another Traffic Signal.

Just proceed on the service lane after this signal and you will see the entry ramp for NICE.

Looks like I need to go via Calicut. Need to meet my sister in Calicut, she will be joining me from there. I am expecting a lot of traffic now due to Sabarimala season

Till Calicut you are still OK. But then Mysore does not form a logical break point and drving to Calicut one shot is also not possible. Nevertheless, break at Mysore and start very early the next to beat the Waynad traffic.

But yes, down south of Calicut expect heavy traffic. Nh17 is typically brimming with vehicles. You should do:

Calicut-Kottakkal-Kuttipuram-Eddapal-Kunnamkulam bypass -Trichur-Angamaly-Ernakulam.

Re: Best Route From Mumbai To Kochi

I did the Pala- Mumbai route over the weekend and took the same route as was suggested by Ampere. The roads are good except for the part between Kolhapur and Pune. This is broken and there are many diversions for the under-construction flyovers. total distance was 1630 odd kms (door to door). I will update on the toll amount paid once i gather all the receipts.
I broke the journey at Chitradurga, after around 810Km and spend the night in Ravi Mayur on the side of the highway. Naveen didn't have any single rooms and double room price was not making sense for me for a 9-10 hour halt. Ravi Mayur is strictly ok. It took me around 13 hours 15 minutes to cover this distance with 3 breaks (total time around 90 minutes. Started at around 5.20 a.m and reached chitradurga by 6.35.

The next day i started at around 5.35 a.m. and was home by 5.25 p.m. It took me 11 hours 50 minutes to cover the 820k.m. Again took 3 breaks (total time would be around 100 minutes) and also lost around 30 extra minutes at Vashi toll gate due to some work going on on the bridge

A big thanks to Ampere and also to Parag for the easy to follow steps as how to enter NICE road in bangalore. If anyone has any specific question on the route please do let me know

Total Amount of Toll paid was INR. 1632. I am hereby attaching a chart which gives the breakup of the toll statewise and also the time (as per toll receipt) when i passed the respective toll booths. What is the present condition of this sector on NH47?
Should I avoid this and go by Wadakkanchery- Chelakkara- Nenmara-kollengode-pollachi -peundurai-salem?

Tomorrow I am travelling to Mumbai from Cochin.

Continue with the same option.

Trichur-Vaddekkenchery-Nemmara-Kollengode-Pollachi-Palladam-Mangalam-Avinashi-Perindurai-Salem

Trichur-Palakkad-CBE seems to be in the same state. Worth avoiding.

Re: Best Route From Mumbai To Kochi

But is it necessary to go via Thrissur- Wadakkanchery- chelakkara or direct vadakkancherry from Mannothy?
I think the second option will be better as we can avoid passing throughThrissur town.

Sorry. Trichur was just a mention for point. When you are on NH47, you hit Trichur bypass. There on to Mannuthy-Vadakkenchery (and not Wadakkanchery). Here at Vaddakkenchery you exit the NH to go to Kollegode.

Ruote Link

Please note there is Vadakkenchery and there is Wadakkanchery. Both are different. The first one is on NH47 while the second is not. It is on CBE-Palakkad-TVM rail network.

Re: Best Route From Mumbai To Kochi

Returned from a road trip to Mumbai from Cochin last week. The road conditions and traffic were as expected.
Route selected:

Thrissur-vadakkenchery-nenmara-kollengode-pollachi-palladam-avinashi-Bangalore.

Just near Pollachi a road bridge work is taking place. So had to take a diversion.
Pune-kolhapur sector is bad with road works going on at many places and hence many diversions. You have to pay the toll though the work is under going. Couldn't find the logic in it.
Returned on the same route. Same conditions.
Thrissur-Vadakkenchery stretch is also horrible with two lane roads and also due to the presence of killer private buses plying on that route.
Stayed at Chitradurga on the Onward trip and at Tumkur on the return trip.

Re: Best Route From Mumbai To Kochi

Hi, Has someone this group made any recent trips to Kerala? from Mumbai? Wanted to check if the Coimbatore Palakkad roads are any better now? Or is still Pollachi-Dindidul the most preferred route? I am planning to drive down to Kerala starting 22nd Aug. Any information will be helpful. Many thanks in advance

Re: Best Route From Mumbai To Kochi

Hello

I am planning Mumbai-Palakkad (again) this year. Last time, the night halt was Hubli(The Hans). This Hotel is in the city and it takes almost an hour(bad traffic) to reach from the Highway. This time, I wish to either stay at a Hotel near/on the Highway in or around Hubli OR in Davangere. Any decent family friendly hotel in and around the Highway in Davangere?

Moreover, last time we had to travel for quite some time in a single lane road leading to/away from Hubli? Is this stretch avoidable as I will prefer to stick to the highway throughout?

Cheers

See this post with regards to a good hotel in Davanagere

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/long-t...ml#post3941409

The other one is Sankam in Belgaum.

Hubli bypass is a single lane road for about 40-45km.
