am planning to travel to Dharmasthala from Mysore next weekend. din't wanted to create a new thread for this so posting my query in this post.

whats the best route to Dharmasthala from Mysore. howz the road condition.

if any one has gone to Dharmasthala recently wanted to know the weather there.

Good info here. But I would anyday prefer taking the challenge of driving up charmadi to other routes to reach kottigehara from DSL. Absolutely breathtaking ghats (only next to Kalhatti ghats perhaps). I generally enjoy driving up Charmadi !!!!

Hi,

I am looking for the road condition info for the following route which I plan to do end of this month. Please suggest which is a better option.

1. Blr-Hassan-kotigehara-kalasa-hornadu-sringeri - Day 1
2. Sringeri - Karkala - Moodabidri - Udupi - Day2
3. Udupi - Day 3
4. Udupi-Karkala - Kalasa- Belur-Hassan-Bangalore - Day 4

Is it possible to do Hornadu and reach Sringeri by the evening or will that be too much? (I plan to leave Blore by around 5:30 or 6 am)

The other option suggested to me is
1. Bangalore - Shimoga - Mandagadde - Tirthahalli- Sringeri - Day1
2. Sringeri - Hornadu - Karkala - Day 2
3. Karkala - Moodabidri - Udupi - Day 3
4. Udupi - Bangalore via Kalasa - Day 4

The idea is to avoid the Sakleshpur ghat since the roads there are supposed to be very bad.

How are the roads in the other parts of this drive? Is the Shimoga Sringeri route OK? Any feedback or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I would suggest you to follow the above schedule...roads will be better in general in these routes...Roads near Udupi on NH17 can be bad but I donot know about the point 4 but still I gues it is better than Sakleshpur ghats...Hence I suggest the above route plan rather than the Hassan road...

Akroy is absolutely right, choose the Shimoga road, I had been till tirthahalli very recently and till agumbe not so recently, but the road conditions are much better than your sakleshpur route, not to mention awesome scenery throughout.

Thanks guys. I will take your advice and go via the Shimoga route. I have never been on this route before and I also will get to see the bird sanctuary.

If you are going via Shimoga it's a bit longer route.
Take this route instead
1. Bangalore - HASSAN - BELUR - CHICKMAGALUR- ALDUR- BALEHONNUR -Sringeri - Day1 ( BLR -CKM is 250 kms CKM -Sringeri 90 Kms)
2. Sringeri - Hornadu - Karkala - Day 2
3. Karkala - Moodabidri - Udupi - Day 3
4. Udupi - Bangalore via Kalasa - Day 4

You can go to kukke via Bisle,

roads leading to kukke via bisle is not great but managable.

Then charmadi route would be a very good option, about 20kms was not in a good shape. there after its fun.

Take the road suggested by Sushruta..
Its the best.. Roads are good, shorter distance, less traffic atleast after hassan and amazingly scenic route passing through few tea plantations..

planning a trip in the next 45 days to horanadu, now. i want to know if it's worth going to kudremukha from there - no trekking - only to enjoy the drive, and the place. having never been there before, i want to know what i can look forward to.

Don't even miss it.
The road from Kudremukha to Karkala is a bliss to drive.
Though i'm not sure about the road condition now. Please check.
If it's good , Don't give a seccond thought. Just go for a drive
