re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Quite off topic but informative, there were lots of RTO checking going on NH4 inspite of heavy rain - at least 5 check points between Hubli & Davengere. They were stopping all trucks/cabs/outstation cars. Mine being outstation car was stopped couple of times, but they let me go after simply asking for all documents & general questions like coming from where & going where.

Update from last week of June, the road is rough and potholed at many sections, not very serious as it used to be in the early days, but Chorla should still be the preferred route, unless they have carpeted it recently-highly unlikely as its been raining quite steadily there, chances are that the potholes would only have got bigger.

Actually I am eager to do a 2nd trip to Tilari ghat, but hardly get to know any news from that road so 2nd choice is NH4A. But that too is less travelled it seems :(

We had taken the Tilari Ghat only last weekend and the road is Bad. But again, when I refer that as Bad, it can be a condition that many roadies who are interested to hit the western ghats accept without complaints. The circuit is excellent with greenery and fog surrounding you all the times till you start descending to sea levels near Goa border.

Few pics from the Tilari route:

NH4A is in Bad shape but excellent as soon as you enter the Goa border all the way till your final destination.

And this is how good NH4A is soon after you enter Goa from KA side:

Yes it is. First time I too spotted an Emu. Luckily, this one was merrily talking a shower standing in the middle of the road completely unaware of traffic movement. This road itself witnesses very minimal traffic that It would bother much anyways.

Those emus must be the ones that are being abandoned by their owners as a result of the Great Indian Emu scam,100s of emu farmers were conned by Emu Farm owners in a ponzi like scheme and very soon the owners fled with all the money and the farmers were left with emus which nobody in India wanted.Between Salem and CBE also there were humongous number of emu farms, the maximum number of farms were in Perunduari,as it was believed emu meat was going to sell like hot cakes in the market but very soon people realised that Emu meat does not find favor with Indians and the demand dropped like crazy and people who had invested started losing money and very soon they realised its impossible to feed the birds,so they began to just abandon the birds.

Most of them die as they are just left in unfamiliar surroundings and the farmers run away.TN govt has taken over 1000s of emus spread over so many farms in the state.Emu Haleems and Emu biryanis have started to appear in some Hyd restaurants but nobody wants them!

re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Folks,

For people travelling from Bangalore, you are spoilt for choice.

a) The road via Dharwad - Ramnagar - Anmod - Mollem is excellent. Beautiful views on Anmod Ghat. A small patch on Anmod ghat is bad but manageable. We were there last week.

b) The road via Belgaum - Amboli - Sawantwadi - Goa is a bliss. Lovely vistas and you virtually drive under canopy of waterfalls. We were there last week.

c) The road via Hubli - Yellapur - Ankola - Karwar is good as usual. Dont miss to see Magod falls - a small detour of 15 KMs after Yellapur (good road through forest and dont miss to stop at pristine lake named Kavadi kere which is just two KMs after detour) and well siganged - at its glorious best. We were there on the weekend.

We are leaving for Goa in about four hours. I am planning to halt overnight at Davangere/ Hubli. I need suggestions for good hotels in Davangere/Hubli.

Hubli has Clarks Inn. Thats the best place out there (Apaty from Taj, which has just come up).

At Davangere the newly open Hotel Shoven is very good and convenient to get to from NH4 as well.

The Gateway at Hubli is the old Hotel Naveen with a refit.Very very scenic and the rooms and service are excellent.

Friends,

Any update on below two options
1. Dharwad - Ramnagar - Mollem - Panaji - How is Road condition from Ramnagar to down Anmod ghat? Usually deteriorates in monsoon

2. Dharwad - Ramnagar - Khanapur - Jamboti - Chorla - Last year I took this route the Khanapur Jamboti route was terribly potholed.

thanks in advance.
