Since you are heading to Utorda, Ramnagar-Mollem will be the best route for you. Check out the post #3072 for the latest update and video of the road on the GA side.

re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Planning a Trip to Goa from Bangalore between 21st to 25th July 2015. Had been planning for a Monsoon drive for a long time now.

Few points to consider;

This is my first self drive to North Karnataka & beyond
My drive is a Ritz VDI
Occupants - Me & the 3 ladies - Wifey, 6 yr old & 1 yr old
Plan to start from Bangalore around 4:00 AM on 21st July (Tue) & reach Goa before / by 6:00 PM if possible.
We would like to enjoy the drive during Monsoons
Haven't decided yet on whether to stay at North Goa or South Goa as the route to be taken is important
Considering the above, which is the safest route option to take & advise on pit stop locations

Await reply from fellow bhpians..

A 4AM start should take you to North Goa by 3PM/4PM at max, even at sedate speeds. But 4AM start is mandatory.

- Start 4AM
- breakfast : Ranebennur Kamat (330km). You can easily make it in 4 hours. (8/8:30 before the kids wake up)
- Early lunch : Sankam : Belgaum (11/12PM. This may become mandatory as beyond this you may not find any good places)

And then get on Chorla road via Jambotti

Thanks.

How difficult or easy it is to find the Chorla road from Belgaum city as we enter the city. Haven't done this route before and hence the query.

Yes it can become a bit tricky. The solution is to:

- Take a break at Sankam.
- Then first look for Jambotti. And then Chorla
- The road from Sankam leads to a cross road from where you need to head to Jambotti

Yes its a good option. Roads are a bit rough around Honnavar. But nothing worry about.

It's not at all difficult.

Enter Belgaum trough NH4, GPS will guide you to chorla and boy what a route it is!

Though gps takes you through the old tilakwadi road inside the city which you can avoid and take the congress road for avoiding the traffic in the day and it's pretty easy to find your way to chorla as all the roads are marked and it's a straight main road you have to follow.

P.S- you can consider eating lunch at niyaz for which you need to take a left from 1st gate on congress road. Belgaum is a small place with friendly enough people to guide you through.

re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Thanks for the suggestions for Bangalore>Goa route in the last couple of posts. Now I just wanted to ask if this is a good route to drive back to Bangalore?

http://bit.ly/1RburjQ

We plan to start by 10am. Do you think we can make it by 8pm with two guys in the car (Lancer) and two guys on their 500CC bullets?

Suggest good food stops as well past Yellapur.

re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Hello Everyone,

We are headed for an Office Trip to Goa this weekend. We start from Bengaluru on Friday night. We plan to reach on Saturday early afternoon.

Had a couple of queries-

1. The route? For 2 36-seater buses, I guess the Hubli-Anmod-Ponda route would be ideal.

2. Where should we target to have Breakfast? Given that we have close to 70 people!!

Thanks in Advance,
Guru

@SBR - Since you said you are open to North and South Goa, here are my suggestions:
1. I would prefer South Goa for a relaxed family holiday to soak in the atmosphere. Any ways there will not be any activities in North Goa due to monsoons.
2. South Goa offers pristine beaches and ranks good on safety.
3. You get good monsoon offers from well ranked resorts.
4. Smooth and shorter drive distance - Blore:Hubli:Karwar:South Goa - Good roads throughout with easier ghat sections. You have decent food options as well barring the stretch between Hubli-Karwar.

I'll be glad to assist regarding any other specific queries.

The road between Yellapur and Mundgod is a narrow tarmac and the stretch is deserted barring Mundgod village. Past Yellapur, you can stop by Mundgod for some Tibetian delicacies near the monastery. Besides that, there is nothing until you reach the NH and chance upon the Kamats. There is Apoorva resorts in Davanagere http://www.apoorvaresortsdavangere.in if you can get there for a late lunch.

You would reach the outskirts of Tumkur I'm sure by around 6-7pm, but beyond that point would be a wild guess!

re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Back from Goa trip.
Onward journey, took BLR-Hubli-Ramnagar-Mollem-Goa route.
Between Dharwad to Goa border, the road has started to deteriorate, particularly in the forests due to heavy rain, Nothing too bad, definetely managable, once you enter Goa it's bliss to drive.
This is possibly the shortest route to Panaji from Bangalore

Return journey, took Goa-Karwar-Ankola-Hubli-Bangalore.
Fantastic route.
Though Ankola-Hubli stretch is beautiful to drive, due to rain even this road is fastly deteriorating, but definetely managable by any sedan. But route is longer than the above distance wise.
Hubli-Haveri stretch is very bumpier these days.

re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Hello everyone,
I am planning a trip to Goa next weekend with some friends and we are planning on renting a ZoomCar, so having a rough estimate would help with planning the trip. I would like to know the approximate distance for a round trip from Bangalore->Dudhsagar falls->Amboli falls->Candolim->Bangalore.

Thanks in advance!

You are looking to forward to around 1400 Kms.

The sequence should be - Bangalore - Dudhsagar Falls, Candolim Beach, Amboli and then Bangalore. Return via NH4 from Amboli falls - no need to come back to Goa.

But if you have time at hand, you can visit Jog falls instead of Amboli. that way you need not go to NH4 at all - instead do this scenic stretch of Jog Falls via Sagar/ Honavar circuit.

Not the best time to visit Jog Falls, if you ask me. It's not in full glory

This is how Jog Falls looked like in the first week of July 15' :
