I wouldn't advise you on it. About 10 kms of this stretch was already quite bad in May when I last drove on here. With the monsoons its must have gone even worse.

One other problem with small cars is. This road gets a lot of load carrying trucks and they will not get off the shoulder, come what may. They know the ground here is very soft. So they wont allow the smaller cars and you might have to do the juggling act. They do help you out but are stubborn about getting their trucks off the road.

Any idea about the road from Ramanagar to Anmod? It usually deteriorates during monsoon
Make that 10 monsoons and guess.

What are you driving? Anmod Ghat might not me in the best of states right now. Monsoons can break this road up in no time. If you are driving a vehicle of good ground clearance take the Kittur Route. The shortest but not the best.

Tillari might be in a bad state too. Best bet is Amboli.
I will be driding a punto, how is Kittur - Bidi - khanapur - Ramnagar?

It is more like Kittur-Bidi-Londa-Anmod. You dont touch khanapur or Ramnagar.

For a Punto it is bad. Dont do it. You might be able to get through but it will take a lot of time. No dont. It must have gone really bad now. And if you get a loaded truck in the opposite direction then it gets even more trickier.

I think as @spitfire mentioned in an earlier post, the best option should be Belgaum-Amboli-Sawantwadi-Panaji.

I do Bangalore - Dharwad in 7 hours in my Bolero - 400 kms. And I drive at a sedate speed of 90-100 kmph.

I know someone who did Bangalore - Belgaum in 6 hours in an Esteem. But I wouldn't endorse his driving.

re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Wow, finally got some valuable input from the goa-bng expert. Thank You Ravi ji.

So my route plans are more-or-less finalised. As suggested by Fauji we will be going via Belgaum, Amboli to North Goa (hope the "waterfall crowd" does not stop us for too long). How much time will this drive take? If we start at 4:00am could we reach Goa by 5:00pm (consider 1.5 hrs break)?
Any suggestion for breakfast and lunch?

Return will be from South goa via Honnavar-Jog-Shimoga route. Again if we start by 8:00am, how much time will take to reach Bangalore considering a 1.5-2 hrs break time? Any suggestion for lunch?

Cant wait for Saturday

Thank You

VW

You will enjoy the scene and there is chance this time by aug. month end JOG might be in full glory.

Even from JOG - shimoga - blre you will love it in rains. You can cover this 650km in 12 hours. Expect few bad patches here and there and including fastest route nh4 has issues. So enjoy Shimoga route in rains!!

Asdon,

comfortably. Te calculation is like this

Bangalore - Chitradurga - 2.5 hours
Chitradurga - Hubli - 2.5 hours
Hubli - Belgaum - 1hr 15 mins

Since you are planning to leave at four, you can drive faster. In Belgaum reach Chennamma circle and ask anyone the road to Sawantwadi and they willl guide you.

Vinod,

You can comfortably reach by afternoon. Look at my response to Asdon above.

Since you are leaving at 4, have breakfast at Davanagere which is 3and half hours drive. Have mouth watering Davanagere Benne (butter) Dosey at Kottureshwara opposite BDT college. It is a slight deviation from highway. You can have lunch in Belgaum. Since you are going through city, you can have it at Hotel Nirmal near Chennamma circle. Dont forget to take "Kunda" the famous milk sweet fo Belgaum from "Purohits" in Camp area. Ask for "Camp Purohit" and anyone will guide you. You will also get tasty kachoris here. Pack some for the journey

On return, i suggest leave early, say 6 to beat the traffic between Goa and Karwar. There will be hell a lot of two wheeler traffic which will slow you down if you leave at 8. Have breakfast at Karwar and late lunch at Sagar.

You can comfortably reach Bangalore by evening

re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Hi All,

Doing the following trip : Bangalore -> Murudeshwar -> Goa -> Pune -> Bangalore starting tomorrow. Car is a Santro with 4 adults.
Any tips/advice on routes and state of roads would be helpful.
Google Maps shows a route from Jog Falls to Murudeshwar via Bhatkal. Any idea bout the quality of this road?
I got some idea from earlier posts and know I can expect a tough time in the Murudeshwar-Goa stretch. I dont suppose there is any alternative to that, though.

I have traveled on this road upto Biligar (35 kms from Jog/Kargal) and the road is initially good in the Jog Falls area (upto Linganamakki Dam turnoff) and from there it is a bit rough and bumpy. From what I heard from locals there, the road condition is more or less the same upto Bhatkal. I did not encounter any big potholes though.
