Yes, at Krishnagiri the good options are Adith Bhavan on right side before Krishnagiri toll (possibly a better choice to avoid crowds that day) or Sree Saravana bhavan on left side just after Krishnagiri toll.

Thank you. I checked the google maps. Adith Bhavan comes before Shoolagiri and is 35 KMs before Krishnagiri Toll Plaza. Is it the same you have suggested?

December 23rd is a long weekend + start of holiday season, so if you are planning for a 5:30 to 6:00 AM start then be prepared for huge traffic at Attibele, Krishnagiri, Thoppur(ignore if you are taking the Harur route) tolls. And the hotels will be crowded too.

So, better do a very early start and plan for breakfast at Yercaud or carry packed food.

No, please check gmaps again - it is about 5-6 km before Krishnagiri toll on right side. Please search on the forum, quite sure the location with coordinates was shared earlier. I think it is Sri Adith Bhavan and the signage is similar to that of Adyar Ananda Bhavan (A2B).

I completely overlooked the Christmas holiday rush towards Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Kerala route while planning my holiday for 23rd to Yercaud. Will I be able to avoid the rush by taking Denkanikottai, Hogenakkal route?

I just checked google map and require your views on another route. All these are to avoid the mad rush towards Krishnagiri. Kindly suggest.

Here is the route I would take - Attibele > Kelamangalam > Rayakottai - Karimangalam - Morappur - Harur - Yercaud. This way you completely avoid the tolls and mad rush as well as Salem. With an early start, this should be a relaxed ride with good to very good 2L roads.

Concerns would be
1. Harur stretch - I do remember someone posting that this stretch was not great in the recent past
2. Narrow road that climbs up to Yercaud from Kuppanur

Drove from bangalore to yercaud last weekend. Took the salem route while going and coming back, took the Danishpet route.
The salem route was a bliss and the danishpet route was a nightmare. I wonder , why google maps is suggesting this route. The road was narrow and in terrible condition. Overall , the trip was entertaining except for the return via danishpet route.there were very few cars too

Visited Yercaud this weekend and took the Salem route to and fro. The construction work going on in the Salem town is not causing a major road block. It was just quick drive though alongside it. At Yercaud, did the loop road drive (32 Kms) for some sight seeing.

I made the biggest mistake in my life by taking this route and managed to scrape the under body of my Baleno atleast 10-15 times.

We've seen potholes, craters on our daily commute. But this is the first time I've witnessed Sink-Hole on a road. The pot holes were that deep.

I had to ask my family to get out of the car and had to navigate through these killer pot holes almost throughout my journey from Karadiyoor View Point to Kadayampatti.

Absolutely no cel phone connectivity. We couldn't spot a single soul in this route. After 1 hour (or) so, a KA registered Ford Ecosport overtook us

So, folks, please stick to the usual Yercaud-Salem route.

The hotel security and couple of other cab drivers misguided us by suggesting this as the shortest and quickest route to Thoppur.

You could have tried Kuppanur - Harur - Karimangalam or there is one another route which connects Kuppanur - Dharmapuri. These are the decent options if someone wants to skip the Salem route.

Earlier posts about this route did mention it being desolate and having no facilities but road condition wasn't as bad as it is now, probably the monsoon has caused it to deteriorate badly.

I checked now and it is the same diversion via Danishpet route. Maybe the title of this thread should be edited asking to avoid the Danishpet route by referring to Prodigy07's post.

Usually google alters its suggestion based on crowd sourcing. Remember Bangalore Tiruvannamalai Pondicherry thread where it automatically started suggesting Arcot route?

The same I guess should happen. Once there are fewer takers, it should start changing its suggestion.

A friend recently traveled to Yercaud on a whim. On a weekday morning they were in Hosur for some work and since they finished early, had a quick lunch and decided to drive to Yercaud. He also had a brand new car, so was taking family along on a drive. Just before starting off from Hosur, he called me quickly to check for route suggestions and I told him not to take the Danishpet route even if gmaps suggests it. My reasoning was more from lack of facilities and narrow roads, but in hindsight glad I asked him not to take the route

Update on the Yercaud-Kuppanur-Karimangalam route : The alternate route to Yercaud

Took the Yercaud-Kuppanur-Harur-Morappur-Karimangalam route while returning back from Yercaud yesterday.
Yercaud-Kuppanur stretch is narrow but has very good tarmac. We saw very little traffic on the way and many stretches were totally desolate.
Kuppanur-Harur is very patchy with lot of shallow potholes. There are intermittent newly laid stretches but they are Moslty one to one and half KM stretches. Rest is potholed. Also encountered lot of truck traffic,some of them long container trailers. Local traffic was sparse. The Harur town had a bypass but even that was congested.
Harur-Morappur-Kambainallur-Karimangalam had excellent to very good tarmac. Traffic was sparse all the way.
Got on to the NH 44 at Karimangalam.
Overall, I would recommend this route if you can live with the bad roads between Kuppanur and Harur. The good thing is the pleasure of driving on the old style TN state highways dotted with Tamarind trees on either sides.

Google Maps tried its level best to divert me on to the Danishpet route while on the way to Yercaud. It even repeatedly directed to take 'U' turns after I went ahead on the NH towards Salem.
