Please share your opinions.
We were there last weekend(Friday, Saturday,Sunday), morning and evenings were pleasant. Afternoon was a bit hot considering that its a hill station.

re: Bangalore - Yercaud Queries. EDIT: Avoid the Danishpet route!

Hi

I am planning a Bangalore-Yercaud trip sometime soon. Advise on a few questions would be of great help.

~ Google maps suggests NH7-Kadayampatti-Danishpet- Basically the Uyiriyal-Poonga Road post, which is a detour from the Dharmapuri main road
~ Is this the correct/better option or crossing the Salem city would be a correct/better option
~ Are the hair pin bends too sharp/elevated i.e. are they in lines with the ones in Lavasa (Pune) or fairly even ones. My family has some motion sickness, will travelling on these bends be advisable
~ Any good eateries on the way.

Thanks

No. Best option is to go into Salem city and latch on to Yercaud road.

Pretty easy hair pin bends. Not at all difficult.

Quite many. A2B, Saravana Bhavan at multiple locations.

Refer this thread and the videos will give you a fair idea of hairpin bends at Yercaud.

Refer the video in post 25 for the climb towards yercaud. There are couple of other videos in that thread which are the loop road in yercaud.

The ghat road leading to Yercaud has 20 hair pin bends of which the last 3 bends are relatively steep. Otherwise nothing to worry about.

Definitely this is not the recommended route. The road shown in the GMpas goes through reserved forest area. Please stick to the route through the Salem town. I will try to correct the Gmaps to show the correct route.

I plan to drive to Bangalore from Kochi on 29 Aug via Salem, with a 20 hr stay at Yercaud. On 30th I plan to drive down via Kuppanur, Harur, Morappur, Karimangalm, Hosur, Bangalore. Any updates and advise on the Yercaud-Kuppanur-Karimangalam road conditions are welcome.

From Kuppanur, the route is via Harur, Morappur, Kambainallur till you reach the NH. This route is a good 2 lane road.

Took the Kuppanur route on the way to Bangalore on 30 Aug. The ghat section is in very good condition except that it is narrow. The first 10 kms is along beautiful estate and woods landscape. The first half of Kuppanur- Harur section along SH 18 however is bad with crumbled top layer, and the first 11 kms has several big potholes. The surface improves after about 20 kms as we approach Harur, due to patches done. Harur-Morappur is good. The Morappur- Karmangalam stretch via Kambinallur is also in good condition having been recently widened and relaid mostly. The route was enjoyable and convenient for the onward journey. The distance from Yercaud (lake) to Karimangalam is 113kms. Thank you suresh_gs.

Dear Friends, I am planning to travel from Thanjavur to Yercaud by car. Has any one taken the Kuppanur to Yercaud ghat road (approx 38 km)? Is this road drivable? Kuppanur is on Salem -Tiruparrur high way. (On earlier trip I had taken the usual Salem-Yercaud road with multiple hair pin bends and the drive was good. I want to try this new route). (Vehicle - Car, VW Jetta). Would highly appreciate advises. Thanks and regards.

Thank you, I found the answer. Sorry, this is the effect of Google search, jump and write mistake, without reading through the thread. Any further info, welcome. Regds.

Last month when I wanted to take this route late in the evening, I was advised by guys at Mahindra Holidays, Yercaud not to try as the Forest Department does not allow traffic on this route at night. But the route is good for a sedate driving. But keep your eyes wide open to take the right turn after Attur lest you miss this route and end up at Salem!

Frankly I did not see any Forest barrier or check post on the way to Kuppannur.
But with narrow and mostly deserted roads, it may be advisable to avoid this route at night. Another caution is to turn right at the first intersection (after about 10 kms) with no signs.Turning left will take you back to Yercaud through another bad road! The road after this turn to Kuppannur is slightly wider and also in good condition.

Thank you. A week back I visited Yercaud. On my friend's advise (who lives in Attur) we had taken the road from Salem to Yercaud. We stayed at the GRT Nature trails for two days. This property is fabulous with a good view over looking Salem. If possible, take 401/402/403/404 rooms which are at the highest with excellent view with private balconies for each room. (Rate off season 3750 plus tax). For these rooms even the parking is separate and it is very private and very near the rooms. (In fact, most of the other rooms - 2750 plus tax are also having their own balcony). For people travelling with extended families / two small families, 401/402 and 403/404 rooms are good since they are having interconnecting doors.Rooms are really roomy and well appointed. Service and staff are excellent. The sky walk, bar and restaurant, open air bbq all have excellent view. Only draw back I found was the food and beverages are pricey.
On the way back, we had taken the Yercaud Kuppanur road. This road is narrow and traffic is low. The road widening is done in many places (for about 65% of the 30 km ghat road). So crossing the vehicles in the opposite direction, in most parts is not an issue. Good sedate road winding through plantations. Both Salem yercaud and Kuppanur Yercaud roads have their own fun factor. Do not miss both
