Is this the road they have taken?

Can you post pics here? I am not in FB.
The Kolakoor-Kanavaipudur route is different from this. It's not mapped in the Google maps. The road is shown only till the next village, rest of the road is not marked there.
Point B shows the place to which roads are marked, the red line is drawn by me which shows the approximate road placement:
Bangalore - Yercaud Queries. EDIT: Avoid the Danishpet route!-1.jpg
On Satellite view, the complete mud path till Kanavaipudur can be seen:
Bangalore - Yercaud Queries. EDIT: Avoid the Danishpet route!-2.jpg
On Map view, if zooming in closer we can see the Yercaud-Kanavaipudur(Planned road) in dotted lines:
Bangalore - Yercaud Queries. EDIT: Avoid the Danishpet route!-3.jpg
In this route, the first 12 kms from Nagalur to Kolakoor has really good tarmac. Till the point B which shown in the above map the roads continues to be well. The 8 kms after that till Kanavaipudur has 90 % mud roads. In that <1.5 kms is really bad and rest has leveled surface. Bikes/SUV's can do this route without issues as per Adithya's update. Cars can also do with utmost care. The last 1-2 kms before reaching Kanavaipudur has road work going on and so expecting this to become good in another 2-3 weeks.

Thanks Deepak for the maps and update.
Good that this road is coming up, as it would help many villages around.

Thanks. I was referring to a 32-km loop road which starts and ends at Yercaud lake going through villages like Nagloor, Semmantham, and estates like Moganad estate, Cauvery estate, etc. I got the answer to my question in the following thread:
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/travel...d-sojourn.html
Refer the last 2 posts for the link to map trace. The loop is not completely drawn on GPS.

For the moment if you want to avoid Salem, then take the Harur-Kuppanur-Yercaud stretch. Very peaceful to drive.

Along with that, this route will be really scenic after the Monsoon. However, as per current condition this route is advisable during monsoon.

Re: Road Condition - Bangalore - Yercaud

Back from a trip to Yercaud. Chose to stick to the Bangalore-Salem-Yercaud route.
Roads are all good, except for the 6 laning near Hosur. Only minor irritant was the Police checking due to the elections. We were stopped at 3 locations in TN, Thoppur, Salem and the on the climb to Yercaud.
Also completed the loop road, although the 2013 Garmin maps didn't show it.

May be the next time you plan to visit yercaud, try this route

Via Hosur, Krishnagiri, Kambainallur, Morappur, Harur and kuppanur. Very scenic route.

Places of Interest around Yercaud?

Hello BHPians.

I am driving to Yercaud , with the wife ,from Bangalore on May 11. We are staying at the GRT Nature Trail. We have 2 days at our disposal. What are the places worth visiting in Yercaud?

I will be taking the Bangalore-Salem route. Is the ghat section motorable? Anything that I have to keep in mind while driving down this route?

You can find all about roads here:

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route-...ercaud-11.html

As regards to places:

There are not many. Few popular tourist locations. The resort itself is located at a nice place. You can get a good sun set view.

Re: Places of Interest around Yercaud?

I stayed at the Shevaroys - crappy little place. As Amp said, your hotel is quite awesome!

What we liked in Yercaud?
- Big Lake (visit the attached gardens - nice little place to walk around with small kids)
- Montfort school
- Pagoda point
- We hiked a lot around the retreat - basically the hill beyond the play area.
- Kiliyur falls, but be warned its quite crappy. The falls are okay but there's little amenities at the end - hence lots of junta bathing at all corners.

Rest http://wikitravel.org/en/Yercaud#See can help.

Re: Places of Interest around Yercaud?

Just to add, really GRT is an awesome to stay in Yercaud. Good food and and a good view. They also have an infinity pool.

Here is a shot I had posted some time back in another thread

Overall, to beat the heat the resort is the best solution

Re: Places of Interest around Yercaud?

Okay....Yercaud is good for weekend. Don't have too many expectations especially if you are going in summer. It is not as cool as Ooty or Kodai. It is running 33 degrees today.

Having said thus, it is a nice place to chill with a book. GRT is a nice place. But look for this another lovely place - The Regent Hill resort. A quirky place indeed!

Salem to Yercaud has 20 hair pin bends of which the last 3 are relatively steep. Otherwise nothing to worry.
