You are one lucky fellow to see wild Gaurs in this route. Seeing the vegetation in the entire stretch between Kuppanur and Yercaud, encounter with wild animals is more evident. But since I was travelling in this stretch during mid day I was not expecting any wild animals encounter.

Now that you got a GT, you should ride once to Yercaud see how GT will embrace you while riding through the Ghats. For me Yercaud trip is just a beginning of series of trips to come and my next trip is to tackle the 70 hair pin curves of Kolli hills.

That sounds good, the Kolli hills part. I have driven there a few years back. If it is alright with you please do let me know when you plan to go there. I will see if I can join you at the foot hills if it is okay with you.

Well Suresh, Tamilnadu as such is pretty new to me. Till now I have been to most of the places in Karnataka but never tried to explore outside the state. Sure I would love to visit these 2 places. Let me straightway put it to my stack.

Thank you.

re: Bangalore - Yercaud Queries. EDIT: Avoid the Danishpet route!

Planning a Yercaud ride sometime soon on a motorcycle. From Dharmapuri there are 3 routes according to Google. 1 - through Salem, 2 - via Mobirippatti > SH 18 > Kuppanur and 3 - Bommidi > Pappireddipatti > SH18 > Kuppanur

Which one is more scenic, has good road surface, more twisties and less speedbumps?

If you are starting from Bangalore, no need to go to Dharmapuri. The best scenic route will be Via Hosur, Krishnagiri, Kambainallur, Morappur, harur and Kuppanur.
Please note that the Harur-Kuppanur stretch is not in a good condition.

Last Saturday I did Yercaud trip in my CL500 and I took Krishnagiri-Karimangalam-Morapur-Harur-Kuppanur route. Harur-Kuppanur stretch has been recently patched up. Only hitch I had on this route is speeding buses and trucks and loads of uneven patches. For more information you can refer to my previous post , http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route-...ud-13.html#194

@luvurride, can you please share the the route in GMaps ?

I am planning to drive down to Yercaud tomorrow morning, so it will be helpful to see if I can skip attibele toll.

Thanks

Here it is - https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Sarj...33b7889f74!3e0

You just have keep it straight without turning right at the Sarjapur police station. Then make a right and immediate left inside Sarjapur village. Once you exit Sarjapir, you'll see the road forking into two ahead. Take the right fork and keep it straight till Bagalur. Turn right at Bagalur and you'll eventually land up in NH7.

re: Bangalore - Yercaud Queries. EDIT: Avoid the Danishpet route!

Visited Salem for a colleagues marriage, and happened to catch up with Yercaud as well

Thursday, May 28, 2015

9:00 PM
Grabbed some food at the office cafetaria while we waited for the other 2 people to join in. One of them dropped off at the last momemt

10:00 PM
Left Yelahanka to reach Silkboard through the gruesome Bangalore traffic even in those late hours.

The only hiccups we faced was the checkpost after electronics city, some regulars had found alternate route, which is to just go by the service road on the opposite direction!

Friday, May 29, 2015

12:00 AM
Except the tolls, there is no stopping en route, we maintained good speeds without any effort or concerns. Briefly stopped by a dhaba/hotel to eat Egg Paratha, a local favourite dish and wash it down with tea.

2:00 AM
Reached Hotel Balakrishna in Salem where our contact person was waiting (yes a friends cousin was waiting in one fo the rooms to make sure we settled alright), crashed for the night amidst the chilling AC to keep off the humid weather.

8:00 AM
Attended the wedding in the morning, and had sumptous south indian delicacies, but limited in quantity, idli, dose, vade, puri, pongal....all one serving each!, and getting refills was a ardous task.

10:00 AM
Bid goodbye to the just-married friend and drove towards Yercaud, briefly enquiring mango varieties on the sidewalks. Then came the 20 hairpin bends which were navigated without much effort. Watch out for the state transport buses, they will come at you without mercy, honking loudly of course.

12:00 PM
Visited the lake and a small garden. Took a break for lunch at Annapoorna restaurant in front of the lake for a veggie average meal. Started off to cover other places like Ladies seat, Gents seat (both are about 10 ft from each other)

2:00 PM
Drove to Kilyur falls, its a tall rock structure with slant water dripping over 150 ft or so. Many tourists used this spot for their bath, we climbed over a rock where the water is still fresh without human touch, the water, albiet thin works as a massage stream, rejuvinating our senses.

3:00 PM
Searched for a place called Dear's cave (without GPS), enquired the locals and navigated for about 45 minutes without the sight of any cave, finally landed at a view point which offers magnificient view of the valley, had to park and walk for a KM to reach the place since the path was ridden with stones.

4:00 PM
We decided an overnight stay at Yercaud wasnt that necessary and started off the drive to Bangalore after a light snack. The drive back was ridden with monsoon glory, thunderstorms and lightning greeting us on most of the occasions, sometimes it rained so heavily that visibility was about 20 ft ahead of us. Reached Silkboard about 9PM and split our ways to our houses

Mod Note : Team-BHP strongly discourages unsafe driving practices that put yourself and other road users at risk. Please do NOT post about illegally high speeds on public roads.

We advise you to read the Forum Rules before proceeding any further.

I suppose the weather will not be that cold unlike the month of December. I had been to Yercaud in December. IMO that is the right time to visit Yercaud.

Should be pleasant these days, with days being a bit warm. Surely worth a quick weekend drive.

PS: Just to confirm, I checked the weather as of today. Its about 20-25C. And that means it should be pleasant with days being a bit warm.
