So if you are in for it with such expectations just go for it.
Thanks @laluks. Just to double check, you took the left from Pagalahalli (after Dharmapuri) and not the left from Kariamangalam (before Dharmapuri)

I exited the highway at Pagalahalli
Dont trust google maps if you take this route, keep your direction sense handy. Google will ask you to cut across fields since from the sky google thinks tractor trails are serviceable roads . Keep following what looks like roads to you, or you can keep my trail handy.

You can even go further in the highway if all you want is to take the Danishpet climb, in that case you can go all the way to Devattipatti on the highway and cut in to the route. I preferred to exit highway earlier than seeing ferrari races on the highway!!

As promised some videos of the route we discussed - aka Danishpet route.

Got some free time and created some from the dash cam footage.

You can join the Kanavaipudur route either from Pagalahalli or from Deevattipatti via Danishpet.

Like I said before, if you like laid back route, this is one you can try. You may check the video to judge for yourselves if you like the route, road surface etc..

I am planning to take a road trip from Bangalore to Yercaud in my Tata Tiago XZA+. I have experience driving in cities and on highways, but don't have too much on a ghat. I did drive to Nandi hill top comfortably (need manual mode).
Any advice for not so experienced driver like me for the Yercaud ghats? A few things that I plan to follow:
- Manual mode (in 2nd/3rd gear).
- Limit speeds (what should be an acceptable lowest in the ghat section?)
- Day time driving only.
- Stay in lane
- Honking when there's lack of visibility.

Some things I follow on any road trip I'll also do: i.e. checking the 5 tyre pressures, through window cleaning (and car cleaning). Filled up wiper fluid.

Are there any recommendations that that I should consider?

To add to this, I am considering going via Salem (either way) to maximize good roads. Does that sound like a good plan?

Re: Bangalore - Yercaud Queries. EDIT: Avoid the Danishpet route!

Hello,
Has anyone recently driven to yercaud from bangalore ? We are planning a short trip sometime in august.
My driving background
1) driven around 5k kms mainly city and one outstation trip to chikmagalur.
2) only automatic driven till now (old grandi10 TC auto).

Questions/doubts from my side
1) how is the road condition ?
2) how are the hair pin bends ? Will I be able to manage (no experience on driving on ghat roads and with my grandi10 automatic) ?

Thanks
Jasraj

Roads are good in the usual Salem route.
I visited in Feb-2022. My colleague with similar driving experience as you, went recently in Swift (manual transmission) to Yercaud and confirmed the same.
Best of luck.

Take the Salem route, this is good. Hairpin bends are wide enough but if you are worried then avoid weekends so that the traffic will be less.

Re: Bangalore - Yercaud Queries. EDIT: Avoid the Danishpet route!

I had been on a day trip to Yercaud over the weekend. Started around 8 from Bangalore and reached at 1 with a short 30 mins break. Trusted the route shown by google and followed it blindly. Roads were good throughout no issues at all and traffic also was less.

Weather was nice (foggy , chilly) and enjoyed it. Had lunch at Green park restaurant. It was really tasty and service was nice. A nice lake view was a plus.

Hiya Planning a trip to Yercaud in the upcoming weekend. Saw your post in which you mentioned a route via Kuppannur. Google maps shows 2 routes from Kuppannur to Yercaud. Can you tell me which can be better handled in a Sedan and the road condition?

The longer Route via a place called Vazhavandhi

(Google maps route)

The shorter route via tourist attractions like Peeku Park and Pagoda Point (Google Maps Route)

It's the first one which has roads I think.I had driven on this many years back. Not sure about the second one.

Thanks for sending me the DM as well. When I went there in Dec 2021, I went via the shorter route and the road was good. Few speed breakers here and there, but overall if was nicely paved. There should be no issues for a sedan as well.

There was some road work being done on the ghat section between the foothills and Kottachedu village (the leftward south turn in the map is right after this village). But it was not something that posed an issue. Hopefully all those works are completed by now.

Not necessary to go via Vazhavandhi. The shorter route is good enough for most sedans. Might be little narrow at places but nothing to worry about
