Thanks @ashkamath. What I gather is that the NH66 portion from Oni to Goa is all fabulous and also the Mumbai-Pali-Sangameshwar stretch is also relatively OK.

My query was more related to the NH66 portion from Sangameshwar upto Oni.
Looks like Sangameshwar - Devrukh - Oni seems better than Sangameshwar -Hatkhamba - Oni.

Kindly advise.

I travelled in end March and my friend in May. Sangameshwar to Oni via NH66 is still best avoided from what I understand. Route via Devrukh is fine. Good road for the most part albeit a curvy undivided state highway. This is the route i took.

Hi All,
I will be travelling to goa this weekend. Please advise the road conditions via amboli or anuskura ghat, if anyone has travelled recently. Would really appreciate some inputs on road conditions.

I have been on Anuskura ghat a few months ago and it was a good scenic drive and road conditions were good.
I heard from a different forum that Amboli ghat is also in good condition and very enjoyable too.

So, you can choose your pick. You can come to Goa via Amboli and while going you can try Anuskura. Both road conditions are good.

Hi,
Even I have used amboli and anuskura, but now due to incessant rains, I don't want to get stuck anywhere due to very bad roads.

I agree. I live in Goa and it's raining incessantly since weeks now. The local interior roads are water clogged as I found out today evening when I visited old Goa on some work.

If there's any issue with Amboli and Anuskura ghat roads, we would receive some information about it, sooner than later. As of now, there isn't any adverse news about these 2 ghats in local media or conversation.

However trees getting uprooted, land slides etc are real problems that could occur in these ghats due to incessant rain. That's a real danger that exists and can materialize anytime. These occurrences are dynamic and as of now, there's no news to indicate that the roads are bad.

As of now, from the tourists that arrive at Goa and in local conversation, there hasn't been any mention of these 2 ghats having bad roads. If it were, some one somewhere would have spoken and we would have got to know about it in the local chats /meetings /conversation.

Re: Mumbai - Pune - Kolhapur - Goa : Route Queries

Hello All,

We are planning to go to North Goa on 1st August from Pune.

Has anyone recently travelled on this route? Which route is better to go considering chance of a flooding of Bangalore highway around this time of the year?

Re: Mumbai - Pune - Kolhapur - Goa : Route Queries

Just reached Goa taking the NH66.
Mumbai - Khalapur - Pali - Mangaon - Sangameshwar - Devrukh - Sakharpa - Watul - North Goa

~95-98% of the road is ready and smooth, work is still going on in ~5-2% of the route just as you join NH66 after Pali up until Sangameshwar. It might still take till early next year for the full road to be ready.

The road winds through 3/4 towns so progress slows depending on local traffic, rest of the towns you just zip through on flyovers.

Very light local traffic due to rains. Not much truck traffic either.
Run time of 10 hrs 30 mins to cover 550Kms (excluding breaks) on a rather sedate drive hovering just around 80-90.

Definitely experience the amazing drive on this route before the full road becomes operational and more traffic comes on and of course the tolls start.

Re: Mumbai - Pune - Kolhapur - Goa : Route Queries

Anyone know what are the typical rates for a tourist cab for 12 hours per day hire while in Goa ? Also what are the safe options for renting a car for self drive?

Re: Mumbai - Pune - Kolhapur - Goa : Route Queries

I traveled thru both Anuskura and Amboli routes this weekend.
Anuskura- No issues. Road is still in very good condition.
Amboli - This route is manageable.
Karad to Nipani - work not in progress, very slow
Highway to Amboli is very good. Amboli ghat section is ok despite heavy rains.

Any latest updates on the most preferable route to get to South Goa? I am planning to drive mid August 2024. Will via Belgaum be better or via Nipani-Amboli or else as some of the BHPians have mentioned via Sangameshwar-Devrukh-Oni?

Tourist cab with driver - don't know the exact rates, but have heard that they are obscenely expensive, not recommended unless there is no other choice.

Self drive - https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/stree...ntals-goa.html (Self Drive Car / Jeep Rentals in Goa?)

Got back from North Goa yesterday taking the North Goa - Lanja - Pali - Sangameshwar - Mangaon - Pali - Khalapur - Mumbai route

Google was consistently showing the same ETA to Sangameshwar via Devrukh / Sakharpa and via Lanja / Pali. So we decided to play "Khatron ke Khiladi" and tried the Lanja / Pali route, much to our regret.

The road till Lanja is in a fairly good condition but soon gets into a horrible state. There aren't more than a couple of places where you can drive at 50/60 for more than 5 minutes. Given the quantum and pace of work, I doubt the Lanja / Pali section is getting done atleast for another year so best avoided. The route through Hathkhamba is probably in a worse condition as Google didn't even show that as an option, it routed us through a narrow, winding local road from Pali bypassing Hathkhamba.

Devrukh / Sakharpa is in a far better condition and highly recommended.

Even with the Lanja / Pali misadventure, we had an 10.30 hr run time (starting at 6 am, excluding breaks and hitting Mumbai rush hour).

Except for a few places, NH66 is an amazing drive with almost no traffic.

One point on the Kashedi tunnel, the entrance on either side is very easy to miss if you haven't been through earlier, so be on the look out.

Re: Mumbai - Pune - Kolhapur - Goa : Route Queries

Came back from Pune Goa road trip on Sunday (4th August).

For Pune-Goa stretch we used Karad-Nipani-Amboli-Sawantwadi-Goa route. The Bangalore highway has become a real mess in last year and the rain have made matter worst by creating lot many potholes which slows you down significantly.
The roads in Amboli Ghat area were good so no issues there as such, and the traffic was decent. We started at 5 am on 1st August and reached Goa at 5 pm near Vagatar.

For the return journey we decided to use the Anuskura ghat considering the pain we had driving on Bangalore highway.
We used Sawantwadi Bypass - Kankavli - Anuskura - Karad - Satar route. The road all the way till Karad was pretty smooth and it was very relaxed drive we had. The traffic was very less on this route compared to Amboli. Just be aware that Google map shows a shortcut to go to Anuskura ghat from Kharepatan, I would suggest avoid this route and go from Rajapur as the road from Kharepatan to Pachal is very narrow (at a times can barely fit a car and a bike).

Refer the part of the route which shows the turn near Rajapur which one should take instead of the route which Google would show (red line).

Mumbai - Pune - Kolhapur - Goa : Route Queries-img_9710.jpeg

The road quality in Anuskura ghat section was top notch.

We faced heavy peak hour traffic as we came near the Pune, a couple of jams were due to diversions on the highway before and after Khed toll plaza.

Overall we found Anuskura ghat to be better option till the time the mess on Bangalore highway is sorted. The only thing is prefer to cover the gear section during day light.
