@s-u-n

look at PPR's post for pune-goa road updates.

The real confusion is from where to turn on NH4 toward Amboli?

1] Nippani-uttur-ajra is in bad condition, so ruled out.

2] Sankeshwar-gadhinglaj-ajra-amboli, the road is not highway, it has some pros and cons, as per PPR, his car A4 handled it very well. This road is mostly preferred by mumbi pune folks. I recommend it.
I will travel on this section in the first week of nov, will put pics and details after coming back.

3] Belgaum-amboli, by taking this route, you will hardly save any time compared to gadhinglaj route, this road has also some rough patches.

I suggest, go to goa via gadhinglaj, if you find it ok, come back by same route otherwise you have belgaum option.

Ashish
Look forward to the photos and report. I'm traveling by the Mandovi Express tomorrow. Changed my mind about the drive. So maybe I will get the correct picture next month and then choose the route.
Cheers

re: Mumbai - Pune - Kolhapur - Goa : Route Queries

Hi Guys,

I am off to Goa tour in the week after Diwali. I will be driving Fiesta D.

Itenary
Start from Mumbai - 30th Oct - 5 am (Sunday so hoping I will not hit any rush out of Mumbai)
Reach South Goa - Madkai (Nava Durga Temple) in the evening by taking following route

Mumbai - Pune - Kolhapur - Goa route
Via NH4 - after Kolhapur - Nipani - Sankeshwar - Belgaum - Take right to khade Bazaar Road - Then next take left to Khanapur Road - Pass thru Marath Colony - Cross Tilakwadi 1st railway Gate - cross 2nd Gate - cross 3rd Gate - enter NH4A - Continue till Piranwadi cross - move ahead and enter Goa near Mollem National Park

I know I wrote some milestones from gmap.

Distance as per Map - 598 Km - Duration 10 hrs.

My basic questions

1. Road condition After Kolhapur
2. If I take the montioned route - How much time would I take to reach.
3. Good places to take lunch break
4. I am sure I won't need this, just checking - refueling station

Those folks who planning to visit in Diwali, I would appreciate if you can provide me latest update on road condition. Your views can also trigger route change.

Also planning to buy Road Pilot from MapMyIndia before journey.

Thanks
Milind

re: Mumbai - Pune - Kolhapur - Goa : Route Queries

Hopefully I should also update on the road conditions by Sunday (I would be traveling on Saturday).
@SAHIR: I would be going through the same route (Belgaum bypass - bauxite road) that you would be doing on Saturday. Maybe we will cross somewhere.

Passing through Belgaum This Sunday morning on the way to Ganeshgudi (Hornbill Resort).

Everyone suggested NH4A till Ramnagar and then to Ganeshgudi. Hope the road is fine. Will report soon as I get net connectivity.

That is the best possible option. Take time out post Ramnagar on the way to Ganesh Gudi to view some beautiful landscapes.
You can find many "photographic" spots on with the Kali river as the back drop.

The dam itself is a beauty constructed between two hillocks.

@SAHIR: Thanks for the updates.
I am more interested in the route that you plan to take tomorrow, since it would be similar to my route.

@ Sahir,

Thanks for the good news about NH4A. With reduced dumpers traffic it will be great to enjoy this road. i am looking forward to enjoy part of it till Ramnagar this Sunday.
