The route which you are referring to is completely devoid of Pune city.

I plan to leave Mumbai early, say 5.30 in the morning. So will be reaching pune around 8 am. Will there be much traffic in the city around that time?
Not much, you can easily do the Dehu Road- Pune bypass-Katraj-Swargate-AFMC-Hadapsar in approx 1hr.

Sorry for spamming. Its the same option. Fundamentally you need to be on NH4 bypass till you enter towards Mumbai Pune road. And then go via Swargate.

Re: Update on NH9 between Pune and Solapur

This is to inform that we did the trip to Pandharpur and Tuljapur as planned.
Left Mumbai at 7AM and reached Pandharpur at 4pm. Stayed there for the night. Next day morning, 7AM again, left for Tuljapur. After darshan, returned at about 1pm. Reached back home at about 11pm.

The road condition is as follows:

Mumbai-Pandharpur. Went via MPEW-Katraj-Swargate Bus Stand-AFMC-Hadapsar-indapur-Akluj-velapur-Pandhapur.

Pune solapur stretch of NH9 is overall ok, but the work is still not complete. Near Pune side, it is not so good.
Indapur - Akluj is state highway, average condition.
Akluj- Velapur is difficult, road condition is not so good.
Velapur-Pandharpur is having very good road.

Pandhapur- Solapur and Solapur- Tuljapur are in very good condition.

If we compare the status of National Highways leaving from Mumbai, I think NH9 is very well behind that of NH4, NH3, NH8 etc. (Though NH9 actually starts from Pune).

Thanks all for your help,
bbhavan

Re: Update on NH9 between Pune and Solapur

Hey guys , need some help. I am planning for a trip to Calcutta. Looking at both the route
via Nagpur and via Hyderabad. My knowledge is very limited about this route .The plan is as follows,

Day1:
Panvel-Pune-Sholapur-Hyderabad-Vijaywada
Day2:
Vijaywada-Vizag-Bhubaneswar-Cuttak-Balasore
Day 3:
Balasore-Kharagpur-Calcutta

Here are some of my queries,
1. Should i go to Sholapur via Hadapsar or via Narayanpur. Which is a better route ?
2. Route from Solapur to Hyderabad. How is the route ?

3. Does one need to get into hyderabad . Any bypass to vijaywada.
4.Good budget hotels in Vijaywada with parking space.
5. Can the entire trip be completed on Day 2 with slight modifications.

Via Hadapsar, BIgwan, Indapur, Tembhurni. Superb 4-laner all the way to Solapur. Except some incomplete work in Tembhurni town.

However, Solapur-Naldurg-Umarga-Humnabad-Zahirabad-Sangareddi-Hyderabad is not in good shape. We take alternative routes via Akkalkot, Aland, Gulbarga, Sedam, Pargi, Chevella to avoid the bad roads. However, 20 kms between Akkalkot & Aland is also terrible.

The Hyderabad ORR is the best in the country & helps you get to the Vijaywada highway. Great signages. No facilities though.
No bypass for Vijaywada

Plenty of hotels in Vijaywada.

No.

Skip Pune totally and also Solapur.

To avoid the Akkalkot - Aland 20km of off-roading, do : Panvel - Satara - Karad - Islampur - Sangli - Miraj - Athani - Bijapur - Jevargi - Gulbarga - Sedam - Kodangal - Pargi - Chevella - Hyderabad ORR - Vijayawada.

NH9 to Bhigwan

hi to all
Planning to drive down to Bhigwan from Pune for birdwatching. Plan to leave on a Friday night or Saturday morning. Goal is to reach Bhigwan by around 630 morning. Considering the distance, am not sure what to do:
1. Stay in a pune hotel off NH9 and leave around 430-500AM.
2. Leave Pune around 8 PM and stay in a hotel near Bhigwan (say Baramati) overnight on Friday.

Request opinions and hotel options.
Thanks, regards
Karthik

5am start should be more than convenient for you.Diksal on the Ujjaini dam where I am assuming is where you are headed is just 100kms so shouldnt take you more than 1.5hrs to reach even if theres fog.You should have a visual treat of flamingoes and herons!Have a lovely time.and now with the 4 laning complete there are quite a number if restaurants as well enroute.

PS:I guess you tried PMing me,sorry my inbox was full, just cleared it

Hi Ranjit
Thanks for your inputs. Stayed in Koregaon Park and left early morning. There was a stretch of about 30-40 km of poor roads and heavy traffic even at 6 AM, before the good 4 lane road started. So it took us a little more time than anticipated. And on the way back, that side of the road is undergoing serious repairs, so we made slower progress. Got fed up and took a left on to Pandharpur road, past Fursungi flyover, and a right on to KOndwa-Undri-Saswad road finally to Katraj Chowk-Pune Bypass. Did not seem like a good choice in retrospect.
Regards
Karthik

Re: Update on NH9 between Pune and Solapur

Hey guys, any latest update on NH9, particularly the stretch between Solapur and Hyderabad? I'm planning to travel home, Pune -> Rajahmundry in March. I'm planning to start at about 5am and with sufficient breaks think I'll be able to reach by 10pm.
I'll be travelling with wife and kid and so need suggestions. Should I take a break? I'll be travelling in my Punto Evo and so driving fatigue is out of question.
