There's a new one called 'Ferns Boutique hotel' which is under construction at the end of the sholapur bypass on the nh-9.

Looks promising and should be a great option for night stopovers at sholapur without going into the city

Guys,

Here is the update on my return trip.

Started from Hyderabad at 5:06 AM from Bowenpally.

Reached solapur at 8:22 AM.

Reached Pune at 12:55 PM.

This trip was done on 7th NOV, before the sugar season started.

Car: SWIFT D.
Fuel Efficiency Returned: 18Kmpl. Thanks to the crazy pulls and hard braking on the Solapur - Pune stretch.
Previous best was 20Kmpl on the PUNE- BANGALORE trip

These timings are not normal by any stretch of imagination.

Either you were extremely lucky not to find any traffic on the road,
else you must have been speeding way beyond 120 kmph when the road conditions permitted you to do so.

I would not want to use these figures as a benchmark for planning by any one.

That is the beauty of early morning starts. 5 AM start from HYD, ensured literally zero traffic till Solapur. Speeds on the HYD - SOLAPUR stretch were around 120Kmph.

OFFTOPIC: Swift D can cruise all day long at 120Kmph. 140Kmph is pushing it a little, any speeds above 140kmph are not worth it, and I never even try even on the superb NH4

We all know the story from Solapur. On the old broken roads say around 80kmph with braking and accelerating. Cannot sustain even 80kmph.

The newly laid tar sections, 100-110kmph. Also note that the break was only for 20mins and before the sugarcane season started.

Could you update on the route from Solapur to Pune a little?

Did you just stick to NH9? or Take the Indaapur By-pass to meet NH4 and to Pune?

Also could you elaborate on the road condition in general.

My Brother in law is planning a trip to Pune from Hyderabad on 17th of this month, so any inputs highly appreciated.

No major changes in road conditions, road widening still on at many places. If its a daytime travel, then it would be worthwhile to consider the Baramati route,if its night time travel then stick to NH9 itself.Budget for a 11hour drive between Patancheru & Hadapsar(on nH9)/katraj(via baramati)

This was in the first week of NOV.
One half of the four laning is completed between Solapur to Pune. Newly laid tar sections. Few patchy sections here and there, nothing un-motorable.
I took the regular NH9. I started at 520 AM from PUNE on the PUNE-->HYD drive. and 5:06 AM from HYD-->PUNE drive. Point to note is the early morning start.

Onward journey on Saturday and Return on Monday.

I am not much aware of the current sugarcane traffic on NH9. Ashish bhai can share the latest update on the sugarcane traffic.

Guys,
stick to NH9 all time.
There is heavy sugarcane-cart traffic between indapur and 12mati, between indapur and patas on NH9.

If you are passing patas to indapur during daytime, no problem,
if passing after sunset, drive cautiously, slow with high beam full time.
The carts and tractor trolleys without any indicator will surprise you any time.
The section near Bhigwan toward indapur is extremely dangerous.

Re: Update on NH9 between Pune and Solapur

Did Pune-Solapur. Started at 7 AM arrived 3 PM. Return started at 3 PM returned Pune 11 PM.

Too many traffic jams. Very dusty road condition. The only way to cut time is to constantly overtake and risk collission with oncoming vehicles.

The ongoing 6 laning work may take another 5 years to complete.

Very heavy slow moving truck traffic.

Best to travel to Solapur by train.

Bhigwan-Indapur stretch you may have to wait an hour during jams to clear.

NIGHT DRIVING: Nightmare. Dangerous.

This is the worst HW that I have driven a car in my life.

NH9 between pune and solapur is nasty dangerous road to drive.
Sugarcane cart traffic added more chaos to already chock a block road.
Now a days, volvo traffic take 12mati route to reach pune faster and safer.

Re: Update on NH9 between Pune and Solapur

The longest I have taken between Solapur and Pune was starting at 8 am from Solapur and reaching Pune only at 6.30-7pm. This was during the Vari season and part of the problem was also rush hour traffic within Pune itself. Since then , I dont tell folks at either end to wait up for me for lunch/dinner , depending upon when I am starting.
The single lane drive makes it exhausting and dangerous too. You can see one of the highest concentration of badly mangled cars lying by the side of the road on NH9. 4-Laning has made it somewhat bearable.

PS : I didnt know there was a Volvo service between Pune and Solapur. There is a convenient train which runs twice a day (9am and 6 pm from Pune - 6 am and 2 pm from Solapur). Reaches in 4 hours flat. Ticket for the A.C. chair car costs a reasonable 318 rupees.

Hey sajo,
i have not mentioned that there is volvo service between pune and solapur.

I just quoted that the volvo service plying on NH9 between indapur and pune is rerouted to 12mati.
The volvoes between mumbai/pune to hyd/latur/nanded take 12mati route.
