Re: 4-Laning Work starts in Avinashi-Coimbatore stretch of NH47

Avanashi Road is currently in bits and pieces where you've got 100-300 metre patches of good solid road and then, the potholes, gravel roads show up.. the definitive time line is atleast a year considering the state of traffic it holds.. The best way for people coming inside Coimbatore via Avanashi is to take the right and go if they intend in going towards ooty/sathy. Else, they can just pass via tirupur to the L & T bypass which starts at the palladam jn.

L&T bypass intersects on the Palladam-Coimbatore road (NH-67) just before Ondipudur. The point is around 25 Kms from Palladam.

Yes it is the right turn towards Metupalayam as one has to pass through annur to get to Metupalayam when you are travelling to say Ooty or something from this end of Avinashi road. From Annur one can head to Sathy.

Re: 4-Laning Work starts in Avinashi-Coimbatore stretch of NH47

Returned from Palakkad via Coimbatore - Avinasi - Salem.

Palakkad - Comibatore took around an hours.

Coimbatore - Avinasi road is in a bad shape: Took around one hour and 15 minutes to cover the stretch of 43kms.

The road become a breeze once we enter the first toll gate towards Salem. It took an hour to cover 95kms on this stretch.

Re: 4-Laning Work starts in Avinashi-Coimbatore stretch of NH47

im travelling from salem to cbe this weekend. Im confused between the
salem - uthukuli-tiruppur-palladam-sulur-cbe (Coimbatore to Salem via Palladam, Tiruppur, Chengapalli - Google Maps) and
salem-perundurai-kangeyam-palladam-sulur-cbe (Salem, Tamil Nadu to Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu - Google Maps)

Any suggestions on this?

Second one is better. It avoids Tirrupur. NH67 (Kangeyam-Palladam-CBE is amazing).

+1. Option 2 is better but, I saw hell lot of traffic between Palladam-Cbe during mornings and evenings. Should be planned accordingly.

Re: 4-Laning Work starts in Avinashi-Coimbatore stretch of NH47

i travelled through avinashi route on sunday from CBE to salem. No problem whatsoever. Few deviations here and there, but roads are fully tarred except for a couple of patches that lasted a few meters.
I went through kangeyem, chennimalai from salem to CBE. It was awful. Kangeyam = choke. Chennimalai = Choke. Sulur - plenty of local traffic. Cant travel over 40kph. this may be due to that fact that Saturday was aadi amavasai. But anyhow, when I took the avinashi route on sunday, I was home at Salem in 2.5 hours.
My suggestion is to travel the usual Avinashi road, if you are on a off-peak hour schedule. My travel time was from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm (Incl 30 min lunch break) on sunday.

I also feel same way. Did Trichur-Bangalore yesterday in an old Maruti 800.

L&T entrance toll: 17:25pm
Salem Tollways: 19:40pm

I was able to do it in 2hrs 15 mins may be because it was a Sunday.Never crossed 90km/hr and I feel its better if you travel off peak hrs.

I am planning to do this stretch soon. Any update on the status of 4-Laning of Avinashi-Coimbatore section? Any recent takers?

Did this route on last Sunday (11Mar). There is lot of improvement and the road condition is much much better as the work is completed at several places.

Thanks a lot. How about the diversions? Is there still lot of diversions? Was that more painful to take the diversions?

I did this stretch during afternoon but don't remember any real bad stretch though there were diversions. Also, Avinashi bypass is not yet open.

Re: 4-Laning Work starts in Avinashi-Coimbatore stretch of NH47

I did this stretch about 2weeks back.
From Chengapalli there are diversions but manageable.
After a couple of diversions some completed portion is very wide and almost 50% of the road is wide out of the whole stretch between Chengapalli-Avinashi.
Last stretch towards Avinashi there are a couple of diversions which are manageble.
The only bottleneck is at Avinashi town (traffic jams).
After Avinashi town took the right turn towards Annur and Coimbatore this road is in good condition.

Re: 4-Laning Work starts in Avinashi-Coimbatore stretch of NH47

Even when I did this in January I found it quite manageable. Avinashi town and the Karumathampatti-Nilambur stretch were the ones that slowed me. Otherwise, just a few diversions were not a deterrent. But if it is peak time, better to avoid and take the Annur route, which would again be only marginally better-thanks to the commotion on the Cbe-Sathy highway.
