9L on a old outdated model is not worth it, IMHO. If you can stretch, go for a VENTO Tdi. There is no wow factor on owning a CLASSIC.

Vento is out of budget though. The only other sedans in this range are Etios and Dzire which i'm not interested in. I don't want to stretch beyond 9. I think i'll settle for a premium hatch. I really wish Fiesta hatch was around.

There was news of heavy discounts on the new Fiesta. Check with your local dealer. The basic model should be only slightly above your budget. It comes decently kitted too

Are you open to Punto 90? I would suggest you to read some recent ownership reviews.

Re: Which Diesel car for ~10 Lakh? Vento vs Verna vs Rapid vs Fiesta vs Linea vs Othe

Hi Everyone,

After driving Chevrolet Aveo 1.6 LT (OP) for 5 long years, I am now thinking of changing the car and hence this request. I drive approx 18k to 20k KM a year in Delhi NCR.

I have already shortlisted 2 sedans and would request views of the experts out here in this forum.

Shortlist
1) Honda Amaze Diesel - top end
2) Toyota Etios Diesel - top end

Requirements in the following priority order.
1) Easy, Light and nimble to drive in the city which is where my 80% usage is. ZERO turbolag is what I need.
2) Comfortable ride and safe/predictable handling.
3) Decent rear leg room and comfortable seats.
4) Boot space.

I know some of you may view the shortlist coming from different segments (because of length) but I do not want to consider Dzire due to requirement mentioned in point 1. Similarly, I am not considering Verito (too old), Manza (have one at home) & Sail (have been happily driving a Chevy but want a change). Rest of the sedans are ruled out since I do not want to spend more.

Thanks for your help in advance.

^^Rather then opting for either of the cars mentioned by you, I'll suggest you to wait for one more month, if you're not in a hurry, and see if Eco sport fits the bill or not.

Both amaze and etios have their own share of shortcomings. I'll suggest you to wait for eceosport and then take the decision.

Or if you are in a hurry and don't want to wait, checkout the sunny, almost nil lag, predictable handling for speeds upto 100 and awesome fuel efficiency.

Thanks for the revert. Since the prices and variants of Ecosport are announced, I want to limit my spends and do not want to go for the top end. However the option is not completely ruled out.

In the mean time I am looking for expert opinion on the shortlist. Thanks

Basis the test drives both the cars are even steven, however the differentiating factors (critical for me) are that Etios does not have a very basic feature of electric adjustable ORVM. This is important for me since I am using this almost daily for last 5 years ans now the manual adjust (specially the passenger side) will be too much of an issue. Amaze has this along with electric fold. Though Etios wins hands down on rear space, comfort ans boot space plus has bluetooth.

Pls advice.

Also - request mods to confirm if I am posting this in the right thread. Else request guidance to the right one.

I hope the 80% city drive that you refer to include good roads.

From you choices, Amaze has an edge as its a new entrant. Also another point I had was : Is compact sedan a priority which you dont want to get away with? Because if you are fine, that opens the door to some very good hatches as well.

Thanks. Yes, sedan is preferred and what i need. However, what should be the top 2 hatch options considering the requirements I have put? Thanks again.

Did anyone suggest the Chevy Sail ? Its a sweet little car and the mid-variant shall certainly fit your budget comfortably.

Re: Which Diesel car for ~10 Lakh? Vento vs Verna vs Rapid vs Fiesta vs Linea vs Othe

Hi All,

I want to gift a sedan to my parents on their retirement. They would be in Mathura after retirement. For those who dont know - its between Delhi and Agra

My requirement is -
1. Very low maintenance car so that they dont have to take pain of going to dealer again and again.
2. No need of high performance engine.
3. Half of the time my dad would be driving the car rest by driver. So easy to drive.
4. Guess petrol would be less maintenance at this budget of 10 lacs?

Initially I was thinking of Honda city. Anything else which suits my requirement?

He said in his post, he owns a chevy and don't want to own one again, because he wants a change

Agreed with Honda city. Usually that comes as a natural stress-free choice for petrol sedans.

However, i would suggest you to look at Amaze petrol too. Its almost as spacious as City and has a huge enough boot, and fuel efficient too. Since you also mentioned that you prefer a not-so-high performing car, 1.2 liter iVtec is quite a capable engine.
You save 2 lacs by buying the Amaze and you can send your parents on a nice abroad trip with those 2 lacs. Just a suggestion.

I am not sure if the two shortlisted options will really feel as an upward change compared to your current car. But if you have to really choose from these two, my suggestion will be the Etios top-end diesel.
But if you are not in a hurry, probably it’s worth waiting for the Ecosport pricing. Even the mid-variant should be comparable to the top-end of your original choices.

Another excellent option in this price range will be the Nissan Sunny XV. Check out some of the ownership threads here. One example below:

Hey thats a very good suggestion. Never thought of Amaze since I have never seen one. And yes, 1.2 should be enough for parents to drive around. Let me go thorugh specs and review in detail. Thanks again!
