I got a call last week from Airtel recommending me to upgrade to a "special offer" scheme of 30 GB @ Rs 1600 PM. I asked them to tell me about the 60 GB scheme instead. They said they have no knowledge of such a scheme, and disconnected! (ACT has not yet reached my shores!).
Just move to ACT. For a home user, the best package is 40Gb @ 20Mbps for just Rs.999/- i.e. including tax Rs.1139/- which is the best plan, out of all internet services currently available in Chennai. I am using it for last 6 months and very happy with the service.

What I like about ACT is:
- Consistent Speed (other than some very busy hours) i.e. you can watch even HD movies without any jitter.
- Very less outage (other than 2 or 3 for few hours in last 6 months)
- Responsive customer care (For any outage, at least they accept and tell the real reason and time of restoration)
- Prompt installation at a minimal installation charge
- No need of buying any additional devices (like modem)
- Ability to use any number of devices in my intranet (without any additional licensing)
- Ability to use the net at a reduced speed after FUP (40Gb)
- Option to top up additional FUP at a reasonable rate (3Gb @ Rs.72/-) if in case you cross the FUP, ie 40Gb
- Grace period of 15 days of unlimited access, for the bill payment
- Unrestricted web access (other than government banned contents)
- No hidden charges, surprise bills etc.

From my experience, the attitude of the company towards the customer is very good and professional. I recommend you to move to ACT, if available in your area.

I am using Airtel Broad band, Trippunithura. The scheme is 30GB, 8mbps and Rs.1750. I must say, connection is good, without any glitches, steady speed, and very professional support from Airtel.

I was on a 30GB/2Mbps/Unlimited local calls for Rs 1250 scheme till last month. I moved to to the 60GB/8Mbps/Unlimited calls (local+national) for Rs 1099+Rs 99 scheme last month as soon as it was introduced here. Since I felt it was a good scheme I passed the word around. My nephew who lives in chennai, called up airtel and was told that there was no such plan. I checked airtel website for their Chennai broadband plans and I was shocked. For Rs 1099, you get 9GB quota at 2 Mbps. Looks like there is not much competition to them in Chennai. Clearly ACT is making Airtel to sweat a bit in bangalore.

When I hear something like that - I feel competition is so good. You are being shortchanged my friend.

I pay 1099, 8Mbps, 60Gb, Airtel in Bangalore and I think I am paying too much

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

I was reading the post from the start and it is nostalgic. We have moved from 128Kbps to 50mbps as home users. This will be the post, i will show the kids who demand HD videos on youtube all time time.

I use ACT (Erstwhile Beam Telecom) in Hyderabad. 20MBPS/75GB at a cost of about Rs 1100. ACT is amazing and has almost zero downtime.

I saw the 60 GB / Rs 1099 banners in Nanganallur. ACT is active in that area.

They are yet to enter my area, so I guess Airtel is offering the scheme selectively in Chennai.

I will wait! ACT will extend to my area may be in another four months or so!

I am sure most of the Airtel Broadband users in Bangalore would have moved to this plan.
At least 5 people known to me have moved to this plan in the last 1 month. Time for another poll to find out the most of popular Airtel plan

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

Fellow ACT users - my FUP is 60 Gigs and I need to download a huge file. Don't mind paying extra for the download. Any option to do this? Do I have to call their customer service for it?

How much do you pay for your broadband?

I am on Youbroadband and airtel. Paying for both because Youbroadband is finicky. Works for 2-3 days and then 1-2 days downtime. Really sucks but when it works the speed is brilliant. For the 12mbps that I am paying I get 16mbps usually.

How much do you pay for your broadband?-imageuploadedbyteambhp1433421800.932682.jpg torrent download speed 2.22 MBps here in megabytes.
Airtel doesn't provide me more than 2mbps so no other option. And instead of paying for smart bytes I figured better to pay another provider and enjoy the higher speeds whenever it works...

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

Is anybody using the Indian railways broadband service? How is the speed/service/value?
http://www.railwire.co.in/
Looks like service is available only in the vicinity (4 km) of railway lines.

My friend got it In Chennai. I think he pays 700 or 800 for a 4mbps line. It is fiber and he got the fiber to Ethernet conversion device free. I setup the router for him and speed test indicates 4mbps up as well as down.
I think it's great value. It's been a week since he has it up.

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

Based on this thread, I moved to 8Mbps/60GB ( Rs. 1099) plan on Airtel.

I was on the earlier Airtel Transonic plan which had 8Mbps/60GB, but was charged 1449/- per month. Now I save about 350-400 per month, and continue with the earlier speed.

I am planning to explore Railwire for my folks in Mumbai. Any inputs on their service in Mumbai? Our house is about 1 km from the railway lines.

The current plan they have is Airtel 1099/- per month, 2Mbps and 30GB FUP, which gets exhausted pretty fast. They allow better speeds only to buildings which have Fibrenet or some thing installed, so its not feasible. Airtel Mumbai plans suck big time.

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

Somewhat OT:

Just heard that Reliance Jio is negotiating to take over large chunks of the Den network.
