Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

Migrated to Airtel BB after a lot of fiasco. I wanted a 16Mbps connection but since they weren't able to offer it they pleaded me to go with 8Mbps assuring me that they would be upgrading the capacity in two months and I can get higher speeds then.

1099 - 8Mbps - 60GB and unlimited local calls for 49 more.

Surprisingly, the speed test results show more than 8MBPS consistently. Intact, DSL line rate is at 10MBPS. Before with BSNL, I used to get a maximum of 3.5MBPS for a 4MBPS connection.

Looking for Broadband suggestions in Chembur for a cousin. Airtel doesn't service the area. I don't like MTNL, so I won't recommend that to him. So is Bhavani Hathaway the only option or are there any other options?

Carboy.
Hi
Check Hathway. I have been using them for more than 2 years.
Speed is supposed to be 50 MBPS but with a wifi router it is around 36/37 MBPS.
Customer care is not good and every 3/4 days it is down for a few minutes or maybe an hour or more. 4 days back it was down for more than 12 hours.
Hope this help
Regards

You can try Airtel 4G with Wifi Router option.
the speeds are amazing, no problem with service, data plans are slightly expensive than the usual broadband. But once fixed, you will not have down times and service issues.

I check the plans on their site - it seems to some 1700 for 5 GB which is ridiculous.

i used karnataka circle plan,
1295 INR gives 15GB at 8MBPS FUP.

I moved out though and also sold my router (in just couple of hours through quickr, airtel dealer purchased it back at a decent price, itseems demand is high).

As of now, the prices are higher. but for areas where broadband isnt a reach, 4G is boon.

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

I use ACT broadband in bangalore and before that, used it in Chennai. Consistent high speeds - a 50 mbps connection at Rs. 1399. After that getting a good wifi router - better than the cheap chinese makes the broadband vendor gives you - boosts speed, as does using a wired gigabit connection with a fast switch.

Plan Name Monthly Rental Speed FUP Speed After FUP
ACT Swift (Internet plan) 675 2 Mbps 20 GB 256 Kbps
ACT Rapid 899 10 Mbps 30 GB 512 Kbps
ACT Blaze 1049 30 Mbps 50 GB 512 Kbps
ACT Storm 1149 30 Mbps 60 GB 512 Kbps
ACT Lightning 1399 50 Mbps 75 GB 512 Kbps
ACT Incredible 1999 100 Mbps 125 GB 1 Mbps

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

Man, it's depressing coming to this thread!

Recently shifted to Airtel from MTNL. Current plan - 8mbps/40gb FUP - 1599 + tax.

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

If you guys would like to know about the broadband "scene" in Dubai, buildings are wired for a particular telco as the equipment is pre-installed for all apartments. So for me its Etisalat (the BSNL version of UAE). I have a 10 Mbps (truly) unlimited connection along with cable and phone (triplay) delivered over fiber.
Cost is AED 345 p.m. (Rs 5968) all inclusive. Broadband alone costs AED 299 (Rs 5172).

Verdict: I get the full advertised speed of 10 Mbps (source:speedtest). The cable is good but pricey. Phone calls to UAE landlines are practically free.

Conclusion : Monopoly sucks.

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

Of course it doesn't quite make sense to compare against that. Compare it against something that remains consistent worldwide - eg: a mcdonalds burger.

McSpicy Paneer - Rs 135, Broadband - Rs.1400 - so about ten times the price.

Grand Chicken Deluxe - around 17 dirhams, and broadband is 299 dirhams. So certainly a lot pricier, but monopolies, especially state owned monopolies, are like that. Anyway what you spend on that you make up on the ultra cheap petrol, I guess

I guess you guys in India didnt get the memo. Petrol prices in the UAE got hiked by 25 percent last month. It now costs the equivalent of Rs 40 per litre. Still cheap but it really doesn't go very far when you drive a 5.7 litre Cherokee.

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

Any users of Airtel 4G dongle? How is the speed / up-time. This would be launched in Trivandrum in 4 weeks, wondering whether this is worth. Currently I am managing with an Idea prepaid sim in a 'generic' modem with 3 GB plan at 646 Rs.

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

Just moved to Pune and one of the priority things was to get an Internet connection.

Ordered Tata Docomo dongle (Photon Max 3G wifi) online (through Tata docomo site) and received one without SIM card. I come to know this after a week.

Got the dongle on Aug 14th and now it is 26th. Every couple of days, the customer care team contacts me and promise the issue will be resolved next day. One of the terrible customer care support I have encountered. At Chennai I had MTS which was cheap and one point of time I have got 40GB per month for just Rs: 1300.
