Is it a good deal? ACT or other services have not reached my area yet.
I think Airtel is taking you for a ride. I am paying Rs (1099+99) +tax for 8Mbps / 60GB data connection with unlimited local / STD calls. They are also having 40GB / 100GB data schemes. You may decide that suits your requirement.

Please check with your neighbours whether they are offering that scheme in your area. If you are having ACT in your neighbourhood, I am sure you must be having this scheme.

60 Mbps speed, 100GB data from ACT India at home. it's broadband nirvana by Indian standards. Rs1487/month. Previously was on Airtel and they were over charging and their own tech support started to recommending ACT to Airtel customers on the sly that's how I switched to ACT.

I have already said we don't have ACT or other high speed ISPs in our area yet.

Airtel is offering lower priced, faster connections in areas which have ACT. In other areas such as mine, they charge more. That is why once ACT or others enter my area, it will be my pleasure to take the airtel modem, personally go to their local customer service centre and throw it in the face of whoever is manning the counter!

What is the upload speed on these ACT?

I am going to regret internet after two years of absolutely nirvana. What options are there in Chennai for good upload speeds.

I am going to shift to a place that has ACT for i currently have the BSNL and their 3kbps upload speed will drain my patience for ever.

Now even BSNL is offering 60GB@8Mbps for Rs 1091 in Chennai. Why don't you quote this to Airtel in an email and see their reaction.

The offer details can be seen in the below link.

I am on ACT, and on their 100Mbps plan, i get between 60 - 90 both ways (up/dn). Though not keeping with their promise of always 100 it currently serves my purpose.

You also have cherrinet, promising the same speeds, by feedback has not been that good. You broadband has Fibre, again Im told only the fibre option is good and the others are real bad. Then you have the good old BSNL and Airtel. BSNL a good old govt mammoth, is a hit or miss type. I have a 4Mbps ADSL line from BSNL as a backup, in reality get only 1 -2 Mbps. And Finally the very (in)famous Airtel who is willing to fleece the customer on the first opportunity. The feedback again is mixed, some swear by its reliability and some curse it. In some locations Hathway and few other providers are available, and are all hit or miss. In fact internet nirvana in India/Chennai is eluding us.

Slightly
A question to the network experts on the forum. I have my ACT on a RT AC 87U which can be configured to take a second broadband as a fallback or loadsharing. Is there anyway I can connect my ADSL router (it think its a ADSL N55U) to RT AC87U to act as a fall back. Today I use it as 2 diff networks at home. Also if posible, I could then use a single network!!

Made my FIL switch to this plan last week as he was on a 1025 4Mbps plan with 8Gb FUP and it is crazy to have a better plan for just 60+ rupees more...he would run out of GBs by mid month and would struggle for the remainder.

Hey, Apologies for the delayed response. Yes, I have been using Hathway from a long time (even now). Their call center is pretty responsive and touch wood, I have not faced any disruptions as of now. Once in quarter the connectivity dies down but the issue is resolved within a couple of hours in most cases.

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

I am using Airtel 4G ( using a wifi router supplied by the company)since the last 9 months or so. My monthly plan is 10 GB for Rs.999/- plus taxes. The speed is >25Mbps. I had connectivity problem a few months ago, which was solved after 3/4 days. Not very swift response. How ever since then, there is no problem. This 10 GB is sufficient for general browsing, but using video services rapidly consumes the data, and one has to keep an eye on the available data. The user control panel is just ok and not quite comprehensive. Would I recommend Airtel 4G wifi? Yes if the usage is limited to general browsing. For heavy usage and video streaming, it seems to be expensive.

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

Here in this part of the world, we don't have the luxury of too many ISPs. BSNL is the de facto choice, though RailNet is also fast expanding.

I have the BSNL broadband, 4Mbps till FUP of 30GB, at Rs.1445, which amounts to Rs.1626 post taxes. It gives me a speed of around 450KBPS with IDM, which I believe is pretty decent for daily usage.

Regards,
Shashi

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

I pay 2,000/- a month for an MTNL plan which give me 8 Mbps Down/1.5 Mbps Up with a monthly data cap of 90GB after which the speed gets restricted to 1.5 Mbps Down till the end of the month.

I hope the future introduction of Reliance's supposedly super-cheap 4G will have some sort of trickle effect on tariff plans.

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

Hi All
Does anyone know how to change the BB tariff plan for BSNL? I was told that a mandatory visit to the BSNL office with an application in hand is the way to go. I was hoping there is some option to do this online, but my search hasnt yielded me to the right place.

Thanks in advance.

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

ACT Broadband now lands in Delhi and have some amazing plans.
for example :: 30 Mbps is at Rs. 999 monthly for 50 GB
That is pretty cheap to what Airtel has been taking from me @ 8 Mbps - 80 GB - Rs.1800 approx.
I'm thinking of switching to ACT now.
