Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

Has there been a change to Airtel BB plans in Bangalore ? I was on a 16mbps/40GB/999 plan . Today I casually checked my data balance on the Airtel app and it shows me on a 65GB plan ! I haven't asked for a plan change, and it will be surprising if they've added 25GB for free .

EDIT - Saw that they're offering a 40mbps/50gb/999 plan on their website for Bangalore. Maybe I got 65Gb as my speed is still 16 mbps.

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

Recently moved to You Broadband. Plan I chose was 16mbps/480GB/6months @Rs 5480 (i.e. Rs 913 for 75GB per month). No installation charges on 6 months plan. I bought the router myself - TP-Link. Speed I get is consistently closer to 16MBPS and even 20MBPS at times!! Reliability has been good so far - touchwood!
Earlier I was using Tata Docomo Wired Broadband 8MBPS/25GB costing me Rs1348!

Youbb has significant turnaround time when it goes down. They won't fix things unless you call them multiple times and also take two to three days to fix. I have them as a backup connection for me and used them till dec '16. I only take it as a monthly plan and recharge it when I run out of FUP on ACT. I also paid them the 500 when it was first installed as I had read about their frequent downtimes and didn't want to be in their pocket due to paying them in advance...
The plan that I subscribe to costed me 1153 per month for 150Gb FUP at 50Mbps and was call Big Smile. I see the rates are now marginally up and the FUP is at 250Gb.
Also their website talks about a free router for new connections. Hope you got that? You can keep it for backup or for extending the coverage for better signal strength in other parts of your house.

It's Jio effect that you are seeing. Even my ACT plan was upgraded for no extra cost...

i think it is growth of Amazon and Netflix videos that is causing this as well.

What's the provider recommended in Trivandrum? I had Asianet a long time back, but moved to BSNL because of their line noise and the irritating sign in page. Nowadays I find BSNL expensive and slow. Thinking of going back to Asianet. Any other providers I should be looking at?

Check if ACT Broadband ( formerly BEAM) is available. It has superb speeds (50 Mbps, 100, etc) comparable to world class cities like London and yet relatively affordable (around 1100 pm).
I am not sure if there is any other internet service provider in India which can beat ACT CORP in VFM.

Re: Off and On Broadband Provider in B'lore?

Which provider is better(ACT or Airtel or BSNL or any other player), if one has to keep the service suspended for major part of the year.

I keep visiting B'lore, and will mostly stay for 4-6 weeks on each travel. I need a connection/service which I can activate online/call and also initiate the suspension online/call. All I need is a simple low cost unlimited connection when am there.

Please advise.

Probably a 4G dongle with a pre-paid plan makes most sense for you. Though there is some upfront cost for the dongle itself and per-GB cost is usually higher than fixed line broadband.

If ACT is available in your area, go for it. Where in Marathahalli? I pay Rs. 1350 + ST for 50 Mbps/120 GB.

Youbroadband is a prepaid service which I use this way. However their downtime is a pain. They also have a suspend feature but I've not used it. I usually recharge it when my main connection ACT is down or if my FUP is over. Alternately you can choose a 6 month or 12 month plan with low FUP or less hour usage over the period from Youbroadband as well. I think the others may have it too.

+1 to the suggestion by @binand. Works out for such usage. I am doing a similar thing for my back-up net connectivity, esp when traveling. Having a prepaid connection may mean more top-up/ recharges, but things are under your control. You wont have to be calling up the service providers for anything.

Asianet no longer have the sign on page. Been using Asianet at home and office for many years now.

BSNL has some new plans not listed on the site as yet.

1400 rupees for 20mbps 75gb fup was pretty good.
