I get only 1.4 Mbps on "good" days and 8GB gets wiped off in no time.

Overnight download on 512 is not too bad, but live video streaming can get slow especially when accessing internet from 2-3 devices.

I am seriously considering moving to a less FUP and cheaper plan

I am also on the same plan however the speed really sucks. What I am surprised is my mails get piled up in the outbox and just does not move. The moment I switch to my datacard, it starts to move.

I went to BSNL's office to question on the speed and no one appears to know what they are talking. Passing the buck from pillar to post!

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

Does anyone here use http://www.rajannet.com/ cable internet? I want to know how reliable it is?

Friend in Chembur has a Bhawani Hathway internet connection & there are problems each and every day. And he is looking for either a backup or an alternative.

Have heard of other providers offering as low as 1600 for 50Mbps lines so was wondering why BSNL is ripping me off.
In Pune, Airtel is the best bet. Get speeds as promised and are cheaper than BSNL.

I pay 999 for 8 mbps 40 GB, beyond FUP - 1 mbps. And I add another 99 to it for unlimited Local & STD calls.
Moreover there is hardly any downtime and their customer service is very responsive.
They also have a 16 mpbs plan for the same price but in my area, the 16 mbps is not available.

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

We used to pay Rs. 800 for 2 mbps unlimited data download but from this month our broadband provider "Triple play" has changed some schemes so we have this 5 and half mbps for upto 75 GB and thereafter it will be 2 mbps for the rest of month. the charges are Rs. 1000+140 tax total Rs. 1140.

Does that mean the broadband connection is via a wireless walky type phone? Or is the unlimited local & std for your mobile?

Cheers,
Vikram

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

I have the same connection.

Comes to about 1149/month (not including the 99/month for free calls)

Broadband connection is via the traditional wifi modem setup. Included in the connection is a phone connection (but Airtel doesn't provide the instrument anymore) through which calls are free.

So, through phone line at home to splitter: one goes to modem, other goes to landline instrument.

As Libran pointed out, it is an ADSL line split to the Modem & phone (landline)
They have two plans for the landline.

49 - unlimited local calls
99 - unlimited local & STD calls

This offer is limited to those who have their broadband connection.

Re: How much do you pay for your broadband?

ACT Fibernet in Bangalore. Rs1264/- for 30mb speed and 80gb FUP.

Fantastic speeds but my only gripe is that they seem to be having some issues with the local (Hathaway) operators who keep cutting their cables at least once a month so downtimes are pretty annoying. But in fairness to ACT they always give me full up service credits for every downtime I've faced thus far.

Thanks guys. I didn't find any 8 mbps/40 gb combination on their website; this is the plan they are offering now for Rs.999.

How much do you pay for your broadband?-airtel.jpg

Seems to be a good deal. Hathway is getting worse by the day; I will call them and see if they serve the area where I stay.

Cheers,
Vikram

"Up to" is the keyword. A lot of areas don't have the fiber optic cable for 16 Mbps.

I get 4 Mbps.

512Kbps post FUP. Not great, but havent had a situation where ive crossed FUP so isnt an issue for me. All the higher plans (1399 and up) have post FUP speeds of 1mbps

They have the same scheme i.e. Rs 999 for 3 different speeds
4 mbps
8 mbps
16 mbps

in my area, the max their installation supports is 8 mbps and I get that.
But then I get that 8 mbps speed almost all the time.
