Hahah, would love to see the same scoreline as with Spain this time too.

The Dutch vs Aussie match has become interesting. This must be the quickest equalizer in this cup.

What a finishing by Cahill. Expected it to be a one sided match, but now it looks very interesting.

Re: The Football World Cup 2014 Thread

Oh, an lively game at hand. Counter for counter. Both the teams are not looking to settle down. What a run along with ball control by Roben leading to the goal. Cahill was no bad either. But both the goals had defenders looking at the striker than attacking the ball before the striker made hay.

I'll feel bad for the Dutch if they loose out this time. Had been following them from the days of Van Der Sar and Bergkamp. They seem to loose out somewhere between the cup and the lip. The Dutch hold the record for playing the most World Cup finals without ever winning the tournament.

Netherlands become the first team to qualify.

Spain try to avoid becoming the first team to be eliminated.

Don't mind but that's kinda stupid/unnecessary comment, cause Football is still played and followed by many in India. So it's not surprising that people follow the WorldCup even if we don't yet have a strong enough team to compete in the last 32. So the comparison is not at all valid.
Btw, don't many here follow F1, Wimbledon etc? What those can be compared to then? Please don't say that it's because of Force India or Sania Mirza

Anyway, it had been an awesome WorldCup till now, loads of goals, upsets etc. and even if the Brazil Mexico game went goalless, it was very exciting till the end. Aussies too surprised everyone today, they may gave lost the game but given a very tough fight. Now waiting for Spain to perform better.

Chile 2 Spain 0 at half time. What a match this is turning out to be, looks like end of road for Spain.

Re: The Football World Cup 2014 Thread

It's half time now between Spain and Chile and looks like Spain is almost out of the tournament. There is no tempo in Spain's game. They are very slow and look confused. I don't know what sort of game they are playing. Attack or defense, even they seem to be not sure as to what to do. It is too late to salvage the situation for Spain. Bye bye old champions.

In all honesty Spain didn't deserved to be in last 16. On the other hand Dutch and Chile are confirmed and rightly soon.
The aussies v Dutch match today was the best one of this World cup so far. Exciting times ahead.

Re: The Football World Cup 2014 Thread

So my guess now is a Brazil vs Chile in the round of 16? What do you guys think? A Brazil vs Netherlands would be devastating! I hope Netherlands win their match against Chile and Brazil comes out top in their group so that Brazil plays Chile in the round of 16.

Chile showed some impressive performance. Spain needs new game strategy. Their "ticki tack" style of passing the ball did not hold good this time.

Re: The Football World Cup 2014 Thread

Dont count Chile out against the Dutch.

And the Group A will be down to goal difference. So its hard to predict right now.

Yup, don't count Chile out against the Dutch. Today the Aussies show the vulnerable side of the Dutch team, ie their Defense. They would be tested against the fast paced attack of Chile for sure.
Spain out and they probably need to rethink their strategy for future. One thing for sure, their players were looking too tired/fatigued and didn't seem to be having the hunger to win.
And as much as I loathe the German team, it seems like they are the strongest squad for this WorldCup.
