I really want Ivory Coast (Cote'd Ivor) to do well, just because of Drogba.

Now it is deciding time for England! They should win against Uruguay or else, they are out!

Re: The Football World Cup 2014 Thread

Is anyone watching this match between England and Uruguay? This guy Wayne Rooney is having this reputation of missing his shots on goal by centimeters and this continues since his last World cup in 2010. It could potentially be Rooney's last appearance in a World Cup should England not win today against Uruguay.

From my observation, England seems to play midfield and a bit of defense while Uruguay is commanding in both defense and strike.

Rooney:-).....finally he scored one!

England intensified their attack!

What a finishing by Suarez... 2-1 now

Edit: After Spain now it is England's turn

Same old England story. World class in their own heads, awful on the pitch.

Roy Hodgson thinks Suarez isn't world class? Well I hope they serve humble pie for dinner in the England camp tonight

England did live up to the expectations. It will be a positive if Hodgson go back to where he belong (mid/bottom level BPL team) after this latest upset.

So much for Luis Suarez not being world class!

Italy cannot lose against Costa Rica. If they do, then they need to win against Uruguay to qualify for next round.

Re: The Football World Cup 2014 Thread

I hate it when coaches especially shoot off their mouths calling some opposition players this and that. "Not world class". What an utterly crass comment. Pathetic stuff. And England are a useless team - I wonder how they even qualified. Listless performance. They are NOT a "world class" team.

Upset by Uruguay it seems. I can never....

Re: The Football World Cup 2014 Thread

This is just why I hate the English football team, as haughty as ever, not to have a special mention of Rooney. The only notable players they had were Sturridge and Hart

Apart, I'm loving this World Cup. Goals are aplenty and coming in good fashion. I guess the Brazuca ball is also a major reason. And with what a support the crowd is backing their teams.

Attacking football overall, not a game to miss. If you strike I counter strike. The writing is clear, teams that don't attack can find their exit soon; anybody who are fast enough earn goals, need not be necessarily be big names. Tactical play beware; Italy and Argentina, next is your chance, if you don't up your games from what you played last, all the best.

I always wondered on when will the teams get time to practice together when they play club football all the time. Not sure that is one of the reasons for teams performing pathetically.

This is how football has been since beginning. International teams get only limited time to train together. And thus, many times you will see players are selected despite not being in top form just because they have been in the international team earlier. This is not a problem with only the 'so called' best league of the world by the way.

It's called psychological projection - haughty Hodgson and the grossly over-rated England team know very well that they themselves are the ones who are NOT world class by any stretch of the imagination. They try to escape this fact by projecting it onto others.

Quote:
Psychological projection is the act or technique of defending oneself against unpleasant impulses by denying their existence in oneself, while attributing them to others.
Anyway, Suárez had the perfect reply with his stunning performance. Knee surgery a month ago, not quite fit enough to last 90 minutes, yet he sent the over-rated snobs to the brink of a first round elimination. He could have even won them the first game had he taken part.

It is a fact that England team has been way overrated and their performances in world cups have always been mediocre In spite of boosting many named stars in line up.
Many people are blaming Rooney. I don't see why. He was fine in first game and yesterday he did good. Expecting him to perform like he use to in young days is ridiculous. Gerrard should claim responsibility specially when second goal was solely due to his mistake.

Suarez was awesome. The passion after scoring each goal was a moment to behold. I think this is the best world cup since years in terms of exciting football.

I guess England players are not able to replicate their intensity and loyalty in club football to the national team. And Hodgson's selection added to the woes.

I have a vague feeling that Costa Rica and Uruguay will clear through this group.
