Re: The Scale Model Thread

During Auto Expo 2012, Tata Motors had scale models of some of the new entrants on display.

These 1:43 scale models of the Venture and Aria by Norev are very well finished, better than the Manza and Vista models they came out with in the begining.

Which reply are you talking about. As for the pictures yes you will recieve some over weekend.

By the way your 1:43 Tata line up is great. The only issue is some models only available in 1:18 some in only 1:43 and there your delima. I want to have a small car collection (like Bond bug, Vespa 400, Autobianchi, Nano, Isetta etc. etc.) but issue is I do not find any common sclae to collect those. Big problem :(.

Re: The Scale Model Thread

Manish, amply detailed scale model of a unique car.

Our country's finance minister has made things all the more difficult for us hobbyists to maintain a very expensive hobby like collecting scale models. Scale models' prices are at an all time high and now this budget has only made things worse.

Will the heart rule or the mind? How important will being practicle be?

The very thought of such and many more questions is enough to send shock waves through my spine!!!

Unfortunately in my case, my heart takes all decisions related to my cars and bikes and so, here goes.......

I always go personally to Automania to purchase any scale model even if it means taking leave from office!

Last month I planned to add a BMW M3 Cecotto of 1989 Auto Art model considering that the M3 is a historically very important model not only to the Bavarian giant but also to the global automotive scene. The M3 was one of the contenders for the "car of the centuary" at the turn of the millennium (1999 to be precise).

I almost bought the M3 when a shiny black car with glittering chrome caught (and stole) my attention.

The 600 was produced from 1963 to 1981 (in Short Wheel Base and Long wheel Base versions with a few landaulets thrown in) and just 2000+ units were built.
It had many industry firsts like a suspension system that could be controlled by the driver and V8, 6300 cc, 250bhp engine was specially developed to propel this behemoth.

The 1971 Mercedes 300SEL utilised a similar power plant but it was further tuned by AMG to produce in excess of 420bhp to participate and make history in the Spa 24 hours event of 1971.

This car was the "Red Pig"

Adding this car was a tough, last minute decision as the M3 was on my radar for more than six months and now it will have to wait, probably for more than six months. A very big thank you to our finance minister.

In the images that follow. I have tried to to capture many an intricate detail of the 600 SWB by Auto Art. I have also paired it with the 300 SEL of 1971 (model by Minichamps).

Where the 600 was for the exhorbidantly rich, the E class was for the masses and the prize always goes to the one who rakes in the moolah. This title aptly goes to the E class that has had an extremely long production run. Model / variant changes have been regular and this has only helped the E class be on of Mercedes' best selling models.

Re: The Scale Model Thread

Lovely shade on your M5 there crazybiker!

Even I have Maisto M5 and the color is just out of this world, its some shade of brown and looks lovely with alcantra colored interior.

I just noticed in case of cars you are not sticking to any size. As for me I have decided upon a theme, which will be sports/supercar, and 1:18 size.

Re: The Scale Model Thread

Thank you Ravi. Part of the credit about selecting models goes to Rakhesh of Automania. He was the one who helped me select the Mercedes 600 over other equally desirable models.

Yes, the bean counters have removed the "Thanks" button from the entire "Shifting Gears" section.

Re: The Scale Model Thread

^^Not sure about the Fiat but Jag e type can surely be sourced in both coupe and cabriolet version of Bburago make in 1:18 scale locally.

Try searching on sites selling toys and stuff.

I hope this helps.
