Hiya.
Ive been paying duty in the Rs1000-3500 range. Purchase prices of these are around 50-100 USD or so. And these arrive by India Post. The postman is well known to me for many years. But then the customs chaps are very arbitrary in their levies.
2 weeks or so ago when I returned from a trip and was carrying a few scale models in my check in bags, I was asked to scan my bag and then was mildly questioned too. I told the chap I was a collector and showed him a pic of my house car cupboard.

Re: Scale Models - Aircraft, Battle Tanks & Ships

Anyone has any experience with this brand here
https://www.kaarr.in/collections/new...-1-18-28x11-cm

Just came across their ad and it looked so good I'm tempted to buy. However don't want to get scammed.

Re: The Scale Model Thread

The Scale Model Thread-img20231018230510_1a.jpg

I have admired the collections of TBHP members over the years. Putting up my little collection.

Front: Mercedes SLK, Ducati Panigale, Porsche 911

Back: (L - R)

Lamborghini Countach, Porsche Cayenne, Ford Coupe, Chevrolet Corvette, Porsche Carrera GT, Ford GT40, Shelby Cobra, Lamborghini Miura, BMW Z8, Lamborghini Gallardo, Jaguar XJ6, Ferrari Dino, Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, VW Microbus

I am still looking for a Ferrari California 265GTB California, Mercedes 300SL Gullwing, Porsche 911 (964). Due to space constraints my preferred scale is 1:24 or 1:32. Any good source to get these iconic models from?

Re: The Scale Model Thread

So I like have a very humble collection of car models but I recently had the pleasure to visit my friend's renovated house. He collects car models with a very true passion. He built a room only for his models complete with custom shelves, cases and lighting. Took tons of pics of each model but just sharing the overall pics here.

I loved the detail of each car, like this F40, the engine bay, the leather pouch in the frunk, even the prints you get on the actual car window was shown there! Awestruck by the details.

Re: The Scale Model Thread

Here is today’s fresh catch.
From eBay USA via the Postal Network.
A Rare Silver Porsche 904 GTS similar to the one in the Porsche Museum, Stuttgart. Heavy solid diecast 1:43 from Cararama. (Pre Owned).
Cost a fair bit plus wicked GOI duty on top of that.
But a lovely car. Feels great to the touch and feel.
Cannot imagine that the real version of this car was conceptualised and made more than 60 years ago!
The aerodynamic design is relevant and futuristic even today!

Wow, the staggered shelves were a brilliant idea - looks fantastic!

Dear Shankar.balan,

Have been enjoying your very regular contributions to this thread - thank you for that.

I notice that sometimes your camera/phone seems to focus on something a little further in the background - leaving the scale model slightly out of focus. I guess if using a phone you could tap the car to focus on it, or if using a camera use a similar focus point (or move back slightly in case you're too close for the camera lens successfully lock focus on the car in the foreground).

Cheers.

Thanks.
On some shots I zoom in and on some I zoom out. Those must be the out of focus ones. Will take better care next time around. Some of these cars are so good that one’s photography skills also have to be as good. I also think I may need to wear my reading glasses when Im taking these close up photos!

An enviably delightful collection indeed. Those custom racks coupled with profile lights just elevate the whole experience to the next level, much akin to visiting a tastefully curated private museum of exotic cars. Kudos to your friend!

This is pure class! Lovely execution in displaying his collection. Highly impressed.

On a much smaller scale I’ve been building my display case to add lighting and extra shelves to showcase my collection. The glass shelf in between is added in by me along with lighting for each section. I’ve been building these using Ikea products and by adding these to a wifi enabled switch that is Alexa integrated, I can also voice enable the lighting including setting these on a schedule. Needless to say, these sit behind closed glass doors.
