Ultimately like cars, it's best to ask people who are more knowledgeable about them instead of directly going to car showroom and asking
And he ends up with a project to make himself one such tank.

LonelyPlanet, your pet also looks lonely in that small bowl. Why not invest in a small aquarium with filter, stones, plants, etc.?

Hey Man ! Need your inputs !
I have finally ordered 4 Feet * 1.5 Feet * 2 Feet Aqua.
The above filter is way out of my budget :(

I was looking at indianaquarium.com, and shortlisted couple of them -

- SUNSUN HBL-702 Hang On Filter ( Output of 800L/Hour)

- SOBO Four Stage Sub Filter - http://www.ebay.in/itm/Four-stage-Aq...kAAOSwEeFU3kBN ( Output of 1200L/Hour)

I have an old filter submersible with Foam available as well.

So out of the above, what all you recommend ?

2 * Hang on Filters + Old Sub Filter
OR
1 * Hang on Filter + 1 * New Sub Filter + Old Sub Filter
OR
2 * New Sub Filter + Old Sub Filter

Which should be the best option ... ?

The plants In put in the tank recently are growing, but turning brown. What could be the issue? Too much light?

Have a look at Boyu Hang on filter:
http://www.amazon.in/Boyu-2045-Aquar...hang+on+filter

For internal filter try this:
http://www.ebay.in/itm/Atman-AT1100C...4AAOSwHjNV79Xv

What gravel have you decided on? And what fishes?

Atman brand is better comparatively ?

For fishes, I have not decided yet. Maybe a single fish as bottom dweller, 2 pairs who stay in middle section, and couple of pairs who stay on top ?

Same for gravel - I have gifted away all the previous gravel with the aquarium on OLX. Though shops were giving 500 only, managed to sell it for 2500 on OLX with gravel and couple of toys.

Suggest some dark colored gravel too. I am just ordering stuff before aquarium gets ready.

And, you have not answered my previous question !!! The one asking the combination of filters

Re: My Fishkeeping hobby

Not the brand, but the type of filtration. In an internal filter, having bio media is pointless. The surface area will be very small as to make it effective especially for a 4ft tank.

So look for an internal filter with just sponges inside.

Your tank would be 350L. You need filters that run at 5 or 6 times that. So look for filters with flow rates of 1750lph.

Two hang ons and one internal would be nice although it wont come close to having an external canister. You could also look into these:

http://www.ebay.in/itm/VENUS-AQUA-To...MAAOSwFnFWEOCT

http://www.ebay.in/itm/Aquarium-Top-...oAAOSwZG9WhtfN

Loading them up with bio media might help.

As for gravel if you are on a budget then get these:
http://www.indianaquarium.com/Gravel...d-1654558.html

Fishes:
Get loaches or corys as bottom dwellers and you can fill the tank up with tetras and barbs.

Or dwarf american cichlids like convicts, firemouths, salvini, a green terror or texas.

Or or you could do african rift lake setups which would be colourful

That aquarium has been sold to someone else. Sad thing is that the plecos would have continued in that tank with the new owner. :(

Good thing is that now I can get a larger 4' tank made in August.

Can anyone explain about the external motor type of filters that local fish stores have? They have a pipe on the top which throws water at high speed (making oxygen bubbles in process) and some cotton thingy in a seperate compartment in the tank. How does this work, and what is the cost for having a similar setup?

Re: My Fishkeeping hobby

@Swift guy: No idea. Perhaps a photo could help

4ft would be great.

I'm trying to figure out how to get my arowana into my flat. Not sure if association will allow a 700L tank on the 9th floor. Need to speak to the flat guys and confirm.

It looks like the hang on filter shown in below link :

http://m.snapdeal.com/product/sunsun...ter/1205960027

But it is a lot different in local fish stores, a compartment filled with cotton-like thing and a motor, and it also has a pipe which throws water directly into the tank (from top) with good force. The compartment with cotton-like thing is a partition in the original tank only, and is fixed maybe.

I will click a picture of the actual thing next time I visit the store.

Re: My Fishkeeping hobby

Actually I have one Sailfin Pleco aka Sucker fish for give away. It is 8 inches long and I have left it in a bucket outside since it was disturbing all the plants. Anyone interested can pick it up from my house(BSK) or office(whitefield). Else I will leave it in my farm next week.

I guess you are talking about Power Heads which route water up onto the cotton/fibre filters and then the water falls down. I had that setup. Power heads itself are too noisy. Plus when you add an air line to it their noise increases. I had that setup for about 4 yrs after which the noise got to me and I bought an eheim filter from eBay. I am very happy with the purchase and recommend it to anyone looking for a super silent filter. To agitate the water and ensure circulation I have 2 wave makes bought from aliexpress for about $8 each. Hope this helps

Hi deathwalkr,

Aquamania guy in BTM quoted 4000rs for a pair of arowana (Silver) not too big, just about the size to pick them. if you need the contact PM me please.

Why do you think 700L tank on 9th floor is a problem ?
All apprtments and houses have several thousand litres roof top tank. You can also have a small circulating pond like setup in your balcony also. Its possible.

All the best, i wish you success on you venture. Arowanas are jewels to keep.
