It is 5 deaths now, is it not? The Italian patient died.

Meanwhile another bad day for us in Singapore. 40 new cases, mostly imported. Stricter social distancing to be enforced.

re: The Coronavirus Thread

The mohfw site may not be the latest for India. The worldwide tracker from John Hopkins link in the OP shows 244 total cases out of which 219 are active and 5 deaths.

Edit: I had been following another link, worldometers for live data.

The person was cured of COVID-19 and discharged 3-4 days back. The death happened due to cardiac failure (as per some media reports).

Italy lockdown is a failure as per this report

Anonymous data mapping phone users’ locations provided by Vodafone and TIM – two leading phone service providers in Italy – revealed that around 40 per cent of residents in the northern Lombardy region were still moving beyond the proximity of their homes.
I have asked this question earlier in this thread, why this cold approch to this pandemic by european countries? Look at UK, eventhough they have many cases, cinemas, pubs, bars, hotels are still open as if nothing has happened

re: The Coronavirus Thread

^^

This is really baffling. When there are 1000's of people dying, people are still defying govt orders and roaming around !! The UK has just asked closure of public places today where they are already in trouble. Even the US seems to be slow in responding as schools were still open when I spoke to my colleague a few days back. I don't know what is wrong with developed countries.

I think Indian govt has been much more proactive but with the cases in India increasing rapidly, I think a couple of weeks of total lockdown is needed. Better to be safe than sorry.

Based on this we are actually at phase 4 right now.

However, to my less learned mind who couldn't grasp even community medicine in 3rd year, experts may guide more about our understanding of the same.

re: The Coronavirus Thread

For Mumbai what is really worrisome is this Ulhasnagar news

49 year old female tested positive for COVID-19. She had travelled from Dubai to Mumbai on 4th March and attended a Satsang at Ulhasnagar on 8th March where in 1500 devotees had gathered. She tested positive yesterday.

Good question, but the thing is, it's easy to look back in hindsight and question certain actions or lack of them. What we are facing now is unprecedented. This is unlike other situations like war or natural disasters. People only plan for things that they have encountered before. No living human being has any experience of facing a challenge like this ever, certainly not in this scale.

No living human being has experienced this before but definitely should have planned for the worst when cases started spreading outside of China. It was more of a lethargic attitude and acted only when they started experiencing the bad which has now turned to worse and probably the worst is yet to come. To add to that, many educated people are not adhering to the prevention and are not worried even a little bit on theirs or their families' safety.

re: The Coronavirus Thread

To make things worse, new breaking data seems to indicate not all COVID-19 affected patients return positive for a nasal/throat test, only a stool test shows positive.

She stays at the same apartment complex as my cousin sister and I got a forwarded video of her being taken away in an ambulance. Word on the street is she did violate self isolation and had attended multiple parties and also sang there. A FIR has been filed against her.
