I don't think flights are on for tomorrow. Please ask her to double check the flight status and if indeed running, she can ask someone known to drop her. That will be better I believe.

re: The Coronavirus Thread

Contrary to what i see here, I am reading that the anti-malarial drug is being recommended by ICMR for prevention and not for critical cases. (Of course to only healthcare workers/caretakers of a patient and not to the general population).

As per a Pilot with Indigo who stays at our apartment, this was a message that he posted on our WhatsApp group.

Whoever needs to get back to Bangalore or any other base please do so tonight or tomorrow morning. We have received official confirmation from company as well that they are shutting domestic operations starting tomorrow evening till further notice. Please do not panic and stay safe. 🙏🏼

Best is to leave now if BMTC Airport Bus services are available and wait at the airport even if it is overnight.

Tomorrow, none of the public transport services would be available and there is every chance that due to vigilant and strict enforcement, private vehicles will be stopped and questioned or not allowed at all.

The Govt of Karnataka directive that has been posted has a small mistake in date, it enforces restrictions from before the letter was signed, as the letter is dated 23 Mar and restrictions are in effect from 0000h 23 Mar which is in fact 22-23 Night and not from midnight of 23 Mar that it has to convey. If the letter is followed in spirit then the lockdown is effective today..

re: The Coronavirus Thread

So what exactly does Maharashtra's Curfew mean?

- Will domestic help be allowed to come home?

- Will I be able to visit my mom - she stays 10 minutes away. Can I drive down or do I have to walk?

It's better to ask her friends to help drop to the airport. With a valid flight ticket, cops wont bother, the earlier the better. No need to panic, hope everything worksout.

https://www.mohfw.gov.in/ is what you an rely on as of now since this is essentially from the Ministry of Health. Data gets updated on regular basis from day 1, more frequently during the day time.

Thanks. But I don't think it shows the latest numbers yet.

Maharashtra numbers is shown as 71 and Kerala is 60. Even the total is under 400.

As I said, it gets updated more so during the day and indeed reflects (or will reflect) the right figures.

Wait till 8 or 9am and you will notice that it will refer to the latest figures.

The total that media reports always includes number of Indians, foreign nationals. You add the numbers in the table and it will tally.

For data graphs and stuff this worldwide tracker has a daily update too for all countries including India

It can compare and graph different countries (including multiple countries)

re: The Coronavirus Thread

Guys don’t leave the house until and unless it is to restock supplies.Take care of your elders and children.
Do not go to the hospitals until and unless it is an emergency. You might be visiting the hospital for a check up or getting your kid vaccinated and might get sick. This virus is highly contagious you won’t even realise when you’ll get infected.

If your maid comes from someplace else send her on leave.

People are not taking it seriously. A COVID-19 positive patient in Shatabdi has led the authorities to reach out to 100 other passengers who might have counteracted the same.
We routinely get such patients who have either themselves visited a foreign country or have a parent or grandparent who has and they have not home quarrantined themselves.
And am talking about the educated , good to do families here.
This is just like DUI , you might think you can handle your drink and drive home but you rather endanger the lives of every other person on the road.

The govt has not provided private and public practising doctors with PPE(Personal Protective Equipment )
Private doctors who want to purchase it are being asked to cough up 200-300% the asking price ranging from 15k to 25k for a suit that can be only used once by one individual (doctors, nurse or other health care worker) for a duration of 10 to 12 hours
What we are going to witness is nothing short of an apocalypse.
We don’t have enough isolation beds, ventilators throughout the country to manage the cases.
The govt has placed an order for 800,000 gears and 1.5 million masks but no idea when will they be received by the hospitals.
Xiaomi has pledged to donate masks to Delhi and Punjab.
If staying at home and disconnecting yourself at least physically from the outside world seems like a overkill, that is exactly what it’s needed to protect yourself.
Stay indoors and ask others to do as well.

re: The Coronavirus Thread

I have been seeing people saying India has less number of cases. There are few possibilities
1. We have not yet reached stage 3
2. Our testing is less
Even though I wish it is the former, as a doctor I know we are testing less when compared to other countries as the testing kit is not that cheap and available in large numbers. I’m hoping against hope that we survive this one unlike Italy and Spain. Our health infrastructure is poor to face if Italy situation arises. I sincerely hope the government prioritise first class Primary health centres ( I’m a so called super specialist ) and allocate enough of budget for health care. A tiny living being has just wiped off ₹ 14 lakh crore (7% of GDP ) of wealth in Stock market in a day, please spend at least 10% of that much a year for people’s health!

We spend 2.3% of budget for health! And see what, we lost 20 times that money in a single day. I’m sure nothing will change as for the dim sighted politicians, health will never be a priority. No amount of gleaming roads, swanky malls, super speciality hospitals will make India a developed country, hope we realise that. Unless we citizens demand better public health facilities, we will come back to these situations again.
