4/10 Movie: Body of Lies (2008)

An average movie that went on for just a little too long. The basic premise being the war on terror makes you expect certain things, robbing the movie of much needed edge. It only confirms what most of us already know, that the war on terror is riddled with double standards, hypocrisy and lies, to suit the convenience of one nation. I do believe Russel Crowe did an excellent job to the point that I found myself very angry with the character at the end of the movie. This only highlights his skill in portraying the insulated narrow view that the agencies and governments of today seem to exhibit. After Blood Diamond, Dicaprio seems to have found another role where he starts of invincible and turns moralistic towards the end, only in Body of Lies he lives to tell the tale.

There are some telling moements in the movie but the lack of pace and tension is a bit of a let down. Mark Strong (Hani) did a great job I thought as the calm, collected, very intelligent and effective head of Jordanian intel. Particularly when he says "in this part of the world, friendships matter" I thought he captured the essence of why the American strategy, arrogance and mindset will never bear fruit.

All in all, it is worth the watch but just once and just about. I don't think I will be buying the DVD in a hurry.

flashbacks of a fool:
wasn't expecting much from the movie but it was a great movie and i felt like it ended very soon i really liked the movie. the story is about an actor (daniel craig) friend dies and he has to go back to his home town and the story revolves around that and a flashback of his life.

tropic thunder :

was expecting a lot from the movie it had ben stiller and jack black. but it was a bit of a let down.
its about a group of actors who go to shoot a movie but the director decides to put them the jungle and they get tangled up with a drug dealing gang and they think they are acting for the movie. the jokes was not as good as i expected.

pineapple express:
probably one of the funniest movie i have seen.its about a guy who delivers lawyers notices to many people and one day while delivering he witnesses a murder and he was smoking up at that time and the murderer is the main drug supplier and he traces him with the drug he smoked up. so he decides to go to his drug dealer and they both are on the run a chain of hilarious events.

Guys do watch Heros once.
The things i did like in the movie are preity and salmans acting. Even the small boy who played their son did a brilliant role. The picturisation is very nice.
Sunny deol is nice when he talks but the action sequence was unwanted. Agree with NC on that. But loved the line "Yahaan hamesha chilled beer milta hai"
Mithun is good in the third story but that part was not executed properly.

Coming to some awesome parts was RIYA SEN is brilliant in the song!!
Vatsal shet did a better role than saand.
Sohail doesnt know how to cry or even act well.

Watch this once as its better than many many more this year and you wont feel that you wasted time

FASHION -

Just back after watching FASHION at Adlabs. I really liked this movie !!

The direction & songs are really good and Madhur Bhandarkar I feel has met the expectations.

Priyanka Chopra & Kangana Ranaut look brilliant. I would praise Kangana even more for her very good acting.

The movie is very realistic. It does not show anyone forcing anyone to do anything without their will. The characters make a choice for themselves. Which I feel is true in the real world.

The Fashion shows in the movie are really well and the dresses shown are Mind Blowing.

The movie keeps you entertained for the entire 2hrs 45 minutes. It is not a short movie.

The only thing that was shown in excess in the movie was Smoking & Drinking & Drugs. I feel it was a bit too much. Madhur could have reduced this but maybe it was necessary for it to go with the storyline.

Also, In this movie, there is not so much of Harsh Reality shown as it was shown in Page 3 & Traffic Signal. The viewers would not feel depressed or disgusted after seeing this movie I feel.

Overall I would say a definite watch for all. This movie would do well in Metros but not so much in smaller towns. Also the amount of Skin shown is not a lot as I thought it would be. Just appropriate. A well done job !!

VERDICT - 3.5 / 5

PS - Gautam ( NC ) was watching this movie in mumbai at the same time I was. Let's see how he feels about this movie

Fashion was a very refreshing movie. The theme was right, the performances were apt, the direction, screenplay and even the music. This by far is the best performance of Kangana Ranaut. Total paise wasool.

3.5/5

I found the second half of Fashion a bit over-stretched, got quite boring at times. It could easily have been about 15-20 mins shorter IMO.

Nice movie nevertheless 3/5 stars.

P.S. There's also a bit of abusive language (mostly in scenes involving Shonali aka Kangna) and coupled with the smoking/drugs/alcohol etc. I don't really think it's a family movie. At least not for families with young kids.

Saw Golmaal Returns last night. Its a brainless comedy like the last one & keeps you entertained. Although the characters are new there are a few refernces to part one which is funny & also songs from part one are used.

The story gets slow at times but makes up for it in the funny scenes some of which are laugh riots.

My rating 3/5

Golmaal Returns

Saw Golmaal on Wed.. Shreyas Taalpade is quite good. Though Arshad Waarsi has not been fully utilised. Celina Jaitley is crap as usual (maybe 10% better than No Entry). Ajay Devgan is a great actor but a bit out of place. Tushhar Kapoor's aiyo-mayo is funny but does get monotonous at times.

All in all you won't miss much even if you don't watch it!

2/5

Fashion - 3.5/5

Brilliant performance by Priyanka but Kangana's was a repeat of her Woh lamhe role - pyschotic and destructive. Bhandarkar excels again - Arbaaz Khan comes up with a surprise performance this time. The music is good too.

Golmaal Returns - 2/5

Brainless and silliness personified. Tushar and Shreyas rock with Kareena being the weakest link. Also Arshad seemed quite disinterested in the movie. The music sucks.

[i]Fashion

Good storyline and brilliant performances by the cast. Priyanka is fabulous. Kangana plays those phycho roles quite well and does so this time around too. Mugda Ghodse looks decent. Arbaaz puts in a matured performance. Sameer Soni is ok but the guy who plays the gay designer Rohit Khanna is likeable. The film could have been trimmed a bit towards the end though. The soundtrack is great and matches the pace of the movie well. I didnt feel any song was out of place.

Worth a watch: 3.5/5

I think I will skip Golmaal Returns. Reviews not that great so far.
