Absolutely No.

For the people who voted Yes, where would you use the name besides on T-BHP posts?

re: Naming your vehicles | Meh or Yeah?

I do believe that naming my vehicles is the easiest personalization to do.
So Yeah

I name my vehicles, and these are their names so far:
1. 1st bike - Suzuki Fiero - Suzy
2. 2nd bike - Kawasaki Ninja 650 - Ninny
3. car - The Batmobile

re: Naming your vehicles | Meh or Yeah?

I never used to name them and neither saw the value till this one brought out the 'deepest darkest desires' and was aptly and spontaneously named Lucifer. Now feels a lot more convenient to say 'Lets take Lucifer for a ride' instead of 'Lets take out the Audi S5', so much so that my future Thar has already been named 'Hulk'

re: Naming your vehicles | Meh or Yeah?

There is nothing wrong in naming our prized possessions.
Here is what I have:

1. Porsche Macan - We call it the same because it resembles:

2. Porsche 911 - We call it Bubble-bee even if it doesn't truly resemble but due to its color.

3. Renault Scala 2012 - We didn't name it intentionally. But the people from Haryana have tough time in pronouncing correctly.
So, this beauty became the gorgeous 'Sakeela' or 'Shakeela'.

I am in no mood to share the pics of actual Sakeela.

re: Naming your vehicles | Meh or Yeah?

Not in the habit of naming my vehicles, but I used to refer to my 2012 model Swift as Kim Kardashian due to its ample rear end.

2. 2020 Hyundai Creta Petrol DCT - Named BLAZE (By my 3.5 yr old durin delivery) after his favourite character in his youtube videos.

Re: Naming your vehicles | Meh or Yeah?

Voted yes

I do name my vehicles, but the thing is, I do it only in my mind. I feel it very childish to refer to my vehicle by the names I give them, so my Alto 800 was always referred to as Alto, and Xuv 300 is referred to as XUV, and Baleno is referred to as Baleno. My dad's LML Vespa is referred to as scooter.

But in my mind, they are

Alto 800 - Blue (She was the sky blue shade, but I named her after the beloved Raptor from Jurassic World)
Xuv 300 - Shadow (weird considering its White, I originally thought of Shadow Fax but Shadow somehow suited her)
Baleno - Havent picked a name yet, probably will call her Frosty (open for suggestions )
LML Vespa - Pankhiraaj (the flying horse - this was what my Dad would lovingly call him, yes its HIM, and my Dad bought him just a month before I was born, and I was always told that he is my elder brother. Dad loved him to bits and was not interested in buying a car primarily because he wouldn't stop using his beloved steed. After Dad passed, everyone told me to let go of the scooter, but there is no way I am going to donate/sell my elder brother)

Re: Naming your vehicles | Meh or Yeah?

If you consider your car as just a means of transport, then you are not going to name it or personalize it.

However, if you know that the car will be a part of your journeys, your memories, and your experiences, then you will definitely get attached to it. Naming it is just a token of our love for it. That seems to be the reason for the personal connection to it even if it is an inanimate object. You might not get that feeling with your mobile phone or Laptop.

I believe naming the car was more common when buying it was a luxury, the wait for it was painfully long and once you own a car, it was going to stay with you for ages. In this age, everything is “use and throw” so it is better not to have much personal connect with it.

I have not named my Polo, but sometimes I just call it “son”.

Re: Naming your vehicles | Meh or Yeah?

Voted No.
The car manufacturing companies name them already. Plus, it seems weird when you call out the name in a group. For e.g. "Let's take xxx out on a drive today".
Someone who does not know might think xxx is your dog

Re: Naming your vehicles | Meh or Yeah?

Absolutely not, calling a car by its own name feels more satisfying to me and i feel connected to my car when i call by its own name.
At times i might use its number plate to refer it in some of my blogs, but that's about it.

Re: Naming your vehicles | Meh or Yeah?

I feel this question is much like whether one likes pineapple on pizza.

I've always named my cars.

Here is Rani Laxmibai. We had her from 2008 to 2018.

We got Pavarotti (because he's fat and white) in 2013. We still have him.

Finally, we bought Scarlett (because colour, duh!) in 2018.

Re: Naming your vehicles | Meh or Yeah?

Where do I begin?
I have this habit of anthropomorphising my cars. And only my cars (emphasis on either of the last two words).

I talk to my car. I clean him and sing to him. I lavish mechanical empathy while driving him. My car since 2010 - the OG Fortuner - Col. Hathi.

Our family had two Octavias- both were the fastest cars we’d had at the time. So, Silver Bullet and Blue Bullet.

My Pete’d red Palio stile was Forza.

And my beloved 1976 Amby is Noothi. Why? Because she carries as her registration 0101, which is pronounced Noothi Onnu in Tamil. This one I didn’t name - my entire family, grandfather and his siblings downwards, called her this and I called her what everyone else did. Until my daughter decided to wield the editorial scissor in 2016 when the Amby came into my life, dropping the Onnu.

I’ll name my first electric car Minnal (lightning). But that’s a long way off. Col. Hathi is the last ICE car I’ll ever own, and I’ll own her for a while yet.
