Brake: To stop or to slow down. Past tense is braked.

As a verb: To apply the pedal that stops/slows down your vehicle.

I hate people that brake suddenly.

As a noun: The pedal and the system that slows down and stops your car. In a car it is typically used in plural - because there are typically more than one brake in the car.

I applied the brakes/ She slammed on the brakes.
However note: He slammed the brake pedal. Since the pedal is singular.

Not for humankind in general, but could be very hazardous for persons nearby. Do NOT light a naked flame in the vicinity; these gases are often highly flammable.

Oh Sam this is really a nice thread.Like you said we all use english still we make mistakes.When i want to write a sentence i have to think twice whether it is right or wrong,sometimes it happens.It is nice to have a thread like this.it is very much useful Sam.

Pardon my ignorance, but should this not be "I hate people who brake suddenly"? I'd have thought "that" is used only to refer to things and animals.
