1. SEMS stent is used as a palliative care (for only good quality of life) in advanced esophageal cancer (e.g.stage IIIb/IV). so if your pt is adv stage, he qualifies for the stent, if however he is stage 1-3a then he can be cured by combination of chemotherapy, radiotherapy +/- surgery.
2. there are several types of stent - majorly 2, one is branded - like Boston Scientific, Cook etc, they will cost u ~ 50-60K, second are chinese - they will cost u 20-35K.
anybody with advanced esophageal cancer will have survival of less than 6months.
so take a call depending on stage of disease and affordability.

Thank you Doctor Das. It helped a lot. Finally the patient went for a chinese stent today, costing around 25K. The patient is in stage IV.

I am not a doctor, but from my reading and experience, the symptoms of acidity are almost same as low acidity. Excess water makes it worse. I think 3-4 litres is a lot for a day. Drink only when you are thirsty, or you notice urine going pale.

water dilutes acidity in stomach, delays/hampers digestion/nutrition absorption, can increase germ growth in stomach, and has a potential for causing water poisoning.

look up hypochlorhydria.

Dev, you're worrying a lot. Ascites is not a diagnosis, just a manifestation of an underlying problem, most likely liver related. Ascites is not a fatal disease, and treatment for ascites is not liver transplant.

Let all the other investigation results come, and let your physician do the worrying. All he best!

There are many causes of ascitis ranging from a cardiac etiology to hepatic etiology. Consult a General Physician initially instead of a gastroenterologist ASAP as it could be cardiac etiology too since you mentioned chest symptoms.
Take care.

Well some say that omega-3 is higher, which is better than saturated fatty acids.....so yes, rice bran oil may be better than sunflower and safflower oil.

I am all of 24 yrs old!
Again, I am not a doctor , but I too had same problem. After acidity and gas ,eventually I got severe stomach pain , and a couple of days later I started throwing up . I was later diagnosed with stomach ulcer due to bacterial infection . Get checked once . I think a gastro specialist must be able to help you. Sorry no idea about doctors in HYD

80yr old lady has been diagnosed with Spinal Stenosis. What are the treatment options considering she is too old and high risk for surgery.

Dear abdriver2000 sir,

Where exactly is the stenosed part: cervical (neck) or lumbar (back) area?

Anyways, I am assuming that your doc has ruled out surgery considering a lot of factors.

Conservative treatment is aimed at reducing the symptoms (I am assuming chronic pain here?) and prevention of any neurologic sequelae. It usually consists of 2 things: drugs, physical exercises or a combination of both.

Drugs will relieve the pain and anxiety--> best person to manage this aspect is a pain specialist (a super specialty after anaesthesia usually). Pain relief is via simple tablets (lots of options) or injections.
Physical exercises are usually: special flexion exercises (William's flexion-biased exercises for lumbar spine), abdomen strengthening, rolling walker exercises, cycling, ancillary muscle exercises etc.
All these exercises are to be decided on a patient-to-patient basis.

There is no hard and fast treatment in spinal stenosis. You have to experiment and see which one you are most comfortable with and which give you maximum relief. There are many factors to be considered, and patient satisfaction is usually low since the doc also has to keep on changing his ways of treatment.

There are patient education resources on the net. I am unable to post my favouraite comprehensive source right now since the link to the website is not opening currently. Other links, I have not looked into.

Thanks,

I had the same problem few months back and I was diagnosed with stomach ulcer, I would suggest get yourself checked by doctor instead of trial and errors(read eno etc). This ulcer problem is not that swear, the things gets back to track within few days with right medication.

I need some pointers from cardiologists regarding my problem, oflate I have been experiencing needle like pain in my chest area(heart region). The pain comes all of sudden like when laughing or when breathing deep and lasts less than a minute. Is this any sign of something dangerous? Also for information an echo test on heart(for some other problem) was conducted 6 months back which was absolutely normal.

The stenosis is between 3rd and 4th bone in the spine. Pain is not really the issue here. She is unable to stand, sit or even hold her neck straight.

re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

Need help regarding high BP. During a regular checkup last month, my BP showed 150-110. Our family doctor and a Heart specialist has prescribed a tablet on a daily basis to keep the BP under control. I took the tablet for a few days and stopped. I am 43. I don't have any other complaints nor did have any conditions suggesting high BP. Wanted to know if I really should continue with the tablet even if I don't have any conditions. I am fairly fit and do a few exercises like pushups at home. Are there any medicines in Ayurveda to control the BP? I just do not want to be dependent on tablets. Some help will be appreciated.
