YetiBlog® - 24th December 2008 - Xmas Celebration!

This morning we are to have traditional breakfast at Jenny's Dad's place. Should be interesting at the very least, lol.
I'm prepared for many questions, expecting someone to pull me over to the side, or ask a question regarding India, terrorrists, Jenny's safety and/or more.

But it's Christmas and a happy time and happy we are. Her Dad lives in a beautiful and quiet place.

Back in the house, we have the most interesting breakfast. Champagne, juice, Norwegian Fish, all kind of Wurst and Sausages, I suspect some very, very fresh lol (her dad is a hunter) and the most outstanding Apfeltorte.

Later, we relax and play around the house.

It's Geschenke time!! The kids are ready to burst with excitement as they receive their presents.
YetiBlog® - Dilwale Braut le jayenge-dsc_5564_l.jpg

There is a present for everyone, even for me!

Lots of chatting and laughing and then it's time to go home. We will have a big family evening with lots and lots of presents for all! And let us not forget that turkey!

YetiBlog® - 24th December 2008 - Xmas Celebration!

That evening we go for dinner to Jenny's Mom's house. We're going to consume that Turkey and much much more. I've already put on some weight since I got into Germany and tonight is not going to help me at all.
The outside is getting colder every single day. That evening for the first time in my trip, the temperature goes below zero, touching -4. The house is all warm and cozy, the terrace is freezing.

Dinner is excellent, with lots of conversation. Most of it is in German (out of habit, not because anyone is being rude) and I strain for a while before I chill out with the kids. They too are completely uninterested in the adult talk.

After dinner, it's PRESENTS TIME!!

Now we leave for Jenny's sister's home (where we live), there the kids have their own tree and are pretty sure that Santa Claus must have already come by and dropped off their goodies.

Then we all have dessert and spend the whole night talking and laughing. It sure has been a proper family Xmas hasn't it?

YetiBlog® - 25th December 2008 - A beautiful day in Bad Nauheim

The sun is out!!

It is still -3 degrees in the day but the sky is clear and blue and the sun is out in full force. However sunlight is only available from about 8am to 5pm.
By the time we wake up it is already 12. A late, lazy breakfast and we're finally ready at about 1.30 to take a short walk to meet Jenny's granny. The kids take their bicycles.

Bad Nauheim is a beautiful little town. Everything is right next to each other and it never takes you more than 10 minutes to get anywhere. We have to walk through the little park and the lake to get where we're going.

No matter how many times I have been here, I find it incredible that Jenny lives here. That a paradise like this can be walking distance from your home.

We come to Teischhaus, one of the places we're considering for a special event later (if you know what i mean), here take a look (that means you - Gautam) take a look on the left.

YetiBlog® - Dilwale Braut le jayenge-dsc_5782_l.jpg

YetiBlog® - Dilwale Braut le jayenge-dsc_5783_l.jpg

We continue walking so we can go and meet Jenny's Oma.

YetiBlog® - Dilwale Braut le jayenge-dsc_5785_l.jpg

We spend a short while with her, coffee and christmas cake and then start walking home. The sun has set and the cold is bitter.

YetiBlog® - Dilwale Braut le jayenge-dsc_5801_l.jpg

YetiBlog® - Dilwale Braut le jayenge-dsc_5802_l.jpg

I am very very cold on the way home. The temperature has dropped to -7 degrees. While it is the lowest so far, it is not the coldest on this trip yet.
While Jenny and I have opted to walk, the rest of the family has gone ahead by car.

Tonight's dinner is special. A winter tradition called Raclette.

Raclette is French cheese that is toasted/grilled with other food in little pans. We sit around the hot plates, making little combinations with all kinds of foods and other cheeses. It is a wonderful experience.

YetiBlog® - Dilwale Braut le jayenge-dsc_5813_l.jpg

It is super cold outside and the house is all toasty, both with the heaters and with the raclette. We sit up till late chatting and laughing.

It has been a simple but a beautiful day. Good night all.

Aaah, raclette with bintje kartoffeln and white wine - a million calories in a meal! Sam, what happened in the last pic? By the look on your face you don't seem to be relishing the wine?

YetiBlog® 26th December 2008

It is an unbelievable morning.

The temperature is minus 4, but the sky is clear, the clearest sky I have EVER seen and the sun is hot. The air is cold and clean and it feels fresh, like it's bursting with oxygen.

Long deep breaths of the clean air, stinging my nostrils slightly and it feels like a drug.

Today is family photo day! Couldn't have been more perfect.

In the garden outside. The sky is magically blue and the incredible array of colours I see is hypnotizing.

Everyone decides that it is the perfect day to go to the park. The parents and kiddies take the Touareg and go to Teichhaus while Jenny, Julia and I decide to walk through the city park.

Everything is magically beautiful. The trees are naked and reach out to us with their gnarled tips, the sunlight bathes their branches and every now and then they look like they are glowing in a soft fire.
