Mods: If we are going OT, can all these suggestion, mine and the ones above be moved to a new thread on how to have fun with pesky callers.

I once pulled a trick on these call center folks.
They generally call up in a series. i.e. they would call XXXXXX 1 then XXXXXX 2 then XXXXXX 3 and so on

My phone rings and I pick it up and say sorry not interested.
The phone in the adjacent bay rings.
I pick that up and say I have already said not interested so please don't call.
The next phone rings.
I pick it up and shout how many times do I tell you to not call.
The next phone rings.
I pick it and say nothing.
A soft voice from the other side says, Sir would you like a.
I shout again how many times are you deaf.

By now my entire floor is laughing out loud.

No more rings after that.

I think Guruji is planning to buy a Jeep to make up for this small oversight:

Jeep 4 x 4 GS M&M CJ 38 - Team-BHP

Now the guys will believe him when he says he's driving an Auto.

Haha nice one

Well i also get such calls and the best solution i could find was:

Caller: Sir, I am calling form blah blah bank are you interested in loan (or any other things like policies, mutual funds) ?

Me: No, but if you are interested in loan please let me know i work in the loan issuing department at blah blah bank.

Caller: Sorry sir have a nice day

Me: You too.

Good one! My solution:

Caller: Sir, I am calling form blah blah bank are you interested in loan/credit cards/policies etc

Me: I am unemployed.

They just bang the phone. You will never get a call again. I love it.

I usually start by saying I am sorry but I am not interested, you should try another customer. Most of the times thats the end of it. If there is a pushy guy he will try again but I will say the same and advise him to take me off as I am not a buyer and he is wasting his time. All this very politely and emphatically. Being firm if necessary but never rude. And I never will make fun of them.

Telemarketing is a real tough job. It takes a lot to pick up the phone and sell. You get rejected time and again and its a real drain on ones confidence. After all the person is trying to make a decent living and no one does it as a career.

Just my two cents.

I totally agree, but I am entitled to my privacy and unsolicited calls are bad manners..

You know I get maybe one call in a month. I restrict who I give my number to. Those contests and customer service surveys are just to collect your details. Funnily my work number is most called but again I have it advertised. So usually I can trace back and control who I want too give out my number to. And if its a number/name on the caller ID I dont need to talk to, I let it go to Voicemail and call back if needed.

Just send a warning note to the bank CC 'ing it to The Banking Ombudsman of your region. If they still persist with those pranks then rise an on line complaint at https://secweb.rbi.org.in/BO/compltindex.htm RBI takes serious note of such and there will be action immediately. I have done this to the ICICI bank Fraud's. They have taken serious note and have fined them apart from asking to pay compensation to me with interest. BO will screw there happiness with in a month's time and will contact you by both postal mails as well as E-mail if they need any info to get the facts right.

I have a good hot headed Bihari friend who works in Ahmedabad.

Once when so called ICICI bank guys came to his flats for his credit card payment. He took them to a room which has no windows. And pretending to bring them refreshments. He locked them in and went to work.
The guy were locked for the whole day. And in the evening, he and his friends beat the hell out of the exhausted three bank guys, so much that they could not even talk. He never heard from them again.

Thats bad, one should not do this. Most of them comes to the city from village to earn something. Such act can make them nervous, they are human, should not be treaded like animal.

What i have observed is, such jobs are given to Gunda type people. They had no idea my friend was one step above them.

This is reference to what the OP had said.
Usually it works like this:
1. Person defaults. Say on a loan of 6 lacs.
2. After 6 months(not sure of duration) the loan is declared NPA (non performing asset) for the bank.
3. Every year the bank will auction off its NPA's.
4. A collection agency will then buy this loan at a bargain price, say 4 lacs.
5. Collection agency will use all tricks of the trade to make the person pay.
6. If he pays up then they make a profit of 2 lacs, bank also recovers some part of the money.

What OP got was most probably call from the collection agency agents. They do not hesitate to use the name of bank.

If this already has been explained then requesting mods to delete the post.
