I'm based in Pune so Mumbai would be my first and natural choice. Thank you for your help.

You can go to GKB Opticals. THey can customize lenses in your Oakley to prescription ones. They have presence in all major cities. You can google for their store in whatever city you want. Good thing with them is you get a pan India service with them.

Do they? I will check them out thanks. But I doubt it - to clarify : I meant someone that can help me with Oakley prescription lenses in preferably the same shades that I currently own and not generic lenses or the type. For e.g. swap out my Plaintiff's VR28 Black Iridium Polarized lenses with prescription lenses of the same. This needs the frame to be exported back to Oakley - I need the opticians to centre and mark the lens and provide a certified prescription to Oakley as well as handle the export and re-import et. al.

Got my first pair of Polarized sun glasses from Polaroid. Went to GKB Opticals after reading a post from beejay that they stock originals. Was happy with the frame and boy i was surprised with the polarized effect. Used it on a 950kms drive to Udupi and back. The difference is immense. There is no strain on the eyes and the dashboard reflection on the windscreen all but vanishes even under harsh sunlight. I will probably never wear normal sun glasses again for driving. I saw Maui Jim at GKB as well but did not like the frame styles that they had as it was not suiting my face. Else would have picked up the Maui Jim itself. In all, very happy with the purchase of the Polaroid. Thanks for the numerous posts beejay educating us about different sun glasses.

Firstly, is your Oakleys prescription frame or sunglass.

If it is a prescription do you have an idea about the base curve, 6 base is normal and 8 base can be done for prescription too. I have attached a 6 base Oakley prescription for your reference.

To all the chain store fans, including GKB opticals. I guess you know there are two , GKB Opticals, Calcuatta based, the blue board people and GKB Optolabs, Goa based the yellow board people.

I have had a chance to work with the both of them and I can vouch for the fact that small store owners with established presence would be able to offer more lens options as both these groups sell mostly their home brand lenses and brands that they are associated with.

Just my two pence, scout around for an optician who has been in the business for a while and you will be surprised with the lens options and even frame styles available.

Cheers

Apologies for the back to back, image did not load in my previous post.

Beejay old chap. That MJ pilot 210 green aviator is fantastico!
Colour, feel, quality etc etc plus the price is reasonable too.
Only hassle is the size for my big face vis a vis my Serengetis and Carreras.
Let wifey come and we will see.

Will be in touch!
Cheers,

Hi beejay, Is this an Oakley frame? I am not familiar with their logo. Anyhow could this be set up as prescription sun glasses or are they meant for use as normal spectacles only. Do mail me the relevant commercial details for either scenario.

Further in the Colani frame I now have Kodak K+ lenses. While they are ok the grouse is that if I am wearing them at night in the car the lights from the oncoming traffic cast a greenish spot on the lenses and the spots move along as the vehicles pass by. Though the usage is brief, the aberration is very annoying. In a room there is no such problem with lights of any kind. The lenses are progressive & have an antiglare coating. Please suggest a good quality/brand of lens. Budget is up to the cost of the frames. Thanks in advance for the above.

Yes, that is a Oakley boomstand prescription frame. I have put 1.74 Seiko prescription clear on them. You could also put prescription sun on them.

Kodak K+ is now locally made in Goa, you should have tried the Essilor range or perhaps even the Seiko that is directly imported from Japan.
Watch your lenses closely to see if there is any smudge or peel of in the coating, maybe light is splitting from that point.
This is actually new to me, I will speak to the Kodak rep and answer your query with clarity.

Thank you, the HT work well even at low light conditions like early evenings. I am sure you would have witnessed the same.

Take the worlds time, have fun.

beejay bhai; do you have any recommendations on where I can find these in Pune?
My problem here is reliability. someone may say its pure titanium but there is no way I would know the difference till I use it.

Also, do you recommend any specific type of glasses/ lens? I require scratch proof and ideally the type which change tints in harsh sunlight. sorry to be a noob, but not sure what these are called.
0.75 in both.

Also, can I get polarized sunglasses made by prescription. I am not so brand loyal as long as the frame suits me! if you have already given this info elsewhere, please let me know and I will search again :)

@Beejay and other experts,

This is slightly out of topic, hence my apologies.

Does anyone has experience on Kazuo Kawasaki frames ? I'm thinking of getting the following 18k gold rimless frame for my prescription. Hence wanted to know if this Japan designer frames are good brand.

Siva,. Kawasaki has not been very successful. I am not sure how much you are paying for the frame, if it is a bomb, choose something else. The pic you have put, it does not look like a new frame.

Rimless will be hard to maintain especially the screw types, the clips are easily manageable.

If you have your heart set on this frame, go for a polycarbonate lens or in trivex. Most suitable for rimless.

Try the lindberg line of rimless, not easily available in India, however I am sure you can find there.

If I get them at $200? Considering the gold value etc, is it still not good? I know the ex US secretary of state Colin Powell used to wear Kawasaki as well(the exact model in wiki Colin powel's profile)

The Ray Ban New Wayfarers in Matte Black. Picked it up from home (USA).
