re: Health insurance queries? Ask me!

i have a medical insurance, provided by employers, to cover hospitalization.
In general, wants to know upto what time the claim can be submitted , after one gets hospitalized without notifying the insurance people ie unplanned hospitalization.

If the Medical Insurance is done by your employer then it would be their responsibility to notify the Insurance co and deal with them to settle the claims. All you have to do is notify your employer.

For unplanned hospitalization, time limit is usually 24 hours. In that case:

1. Hospital would ask for a deposit at time of admission(In Mumbai its 1.5 lakh for Lilavati/Jaslok etc for normal surgeries, it could be higher depending on "Grade" as decided by Surgeon).
2. Hospital would sent auth request to TPA, when (and IF) TPS sends approval, Hospital will refund the deposit amount minus 5 to 15k.
3. After 2 - 3 months, TPA would pay money to hospital. And hospital will refund the amount it has kept with it. It will deduct things that TPA has not approved like toiletries for patient and alike.

This applies only in case of Govt/PSU. For most new-economy companies you have to work directly with TPA ot Insurance companies.

No. I renew my policy with UI every October. There is an incremental increase almost every time, but I did not notice any big jump.

You have to submit the claim within 7 days of discharge. After hospitalization also you can get a cashless approval within 24 hours.

May be the age slab must have changed. The Insurance co normally have different Insurance rates as per age slabs. You must have moved one slab up. But in your case the jump is almost 4 fold, something fishy. Just check with the Insurers for the hefty rise.

I heard one of my colleague complaining about the same, he had insurance from Reliance. He now has opted for a different insurer.

re: Health insurance queries? Ask me!

Hi All,

Any suggestions on the health insurance plans for parents (Age 60 and 56). I would need one where preexisting diseases are covered (Cardiac related) and a cover of around 4L.

AFAIK the pre existing diseases are covered after two years oftaking policy but there are some Insurers who cover the pre-existing with a higher premiums. You need to talk to them directly. Pls find below the list of Insurers who provide the Senior citizen mediclaim. Hope this helps.

@Perfhuman,

I have indeed taken the Medical Insurance from Apollo Munich - Family floater Easy Health exclusive plan. The premium for SA of 3L costed 8.18K. The best part is I can go for a critical illness cover next year without any medicals.

The Insurance co has tie ups with major hospitals in Thane. The experience has been pretty good. Had taken the insurance through Apollo Munich Thane branch, the Marketing Manager himself collected the application forms and other formalities.

How did they do in terms of claim settlement? Was that process smooth?
