Friends:

Like some of you, I am fond of gadgets.
And that nowadays is inseparably linked to embedded digital microcomputer technology.

My journey with wristwatches has been as follows:
From the first mechanical watch gifted to me by my parents in 1965 -- it was a low-priced Josmar. Josmar Watch S.A. of Switzerland made watches between 1940 and 1969.
I moved up to an "automatic" self-winding watch in 1973. This was an ultra-thin Favre-Leuba.
My only Seiko automatic was a black dial Pilot watch in 1978.
Back in 1978, it was cool to have a mechanical watch, electronically timed with a quartz oscillator. This was usually a 32KHz crystal, and these watches were frightfully expensive. Needles to say, I could not dream of affording one.

The first digital watches showed up in 1976 or so.
An all black Texas Instruments watch with a red LED display.
The watch had a button, you pushed to see the time momentarily.
That's because of the high battery consumption of the red LED display.
LCD displays weren't on mainstream watches yet.

In 1979, my dad gave me a Casio watch with an LCD display.
LCDs were very primitive back then and leaked after two years.
I reverted back to my Seiko automatic mechanical Pilot watch.

Enroute to Sydney in 1989, I bought my own 1989 Casio sportswatch, at Singapore Changi. Made of black ABS plastic, this had a chunky butch sportswatch look with a turnable bezel. The granddaddy of the G-Shocks.
It had analog hands and a digital LCD display.

In the early 1990s I discovered Citizen's Promaster range of high-tech sportswatches. Bought a stainess steel 1992 Citizen Promaster Aqualand, in Heathrow in Dec 1992.

And acquired a 1995 Citizen Promaster Navihawk at Akihabara, Tokyo. The body and strap were all Titanium and felt ultralight. Yet to see this Titanium version outside Japan.

After that two Polar sports cardiac monitor watches, a Polar A5 and
now a 2008 Polar F6, bought in Munich, two months ago.

But still seeking the ultimate pedigree sports watch with multifunction digital display plus analog display.

Kindly do indulge my soaring imagination awhile.

These are the days of multifunction convergence, so:Hell, it should just provide an API so that I can program whatever functions I want, myself.

Know a watch which comes remotely close to this ideal device? I'd be all ears, eyes, billfold...

Cheers...

I own an Citizen Ecodrive Perpetual Calender WR100 which I use regularly and I also own a TISSOT which is only a party wear watch.

  • It should monitor heartrate and calorific burn rate.
  • It should set itself by using an Internet connection over UMTS/GPRS /Wifi to connect to the atomic time-server at Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) at Braunschweig, Germany.
  • It should show the time for whichever timezone I select worldwide.
  • It should show incoming mobile caller-id.
  • It could have an MP4 video player -- OK at least an MP3 player?

Ram I think the iphone is the answer. Its brilliant and every now and then you get free upgrades with applets allowing you to do more. I have dispelled with the need to buy CD's as iradio is brilliant. Most of the functions you desire can be added or developed. It truly is a masterpiece

Damn i am poor.
Wear a watch which was gifted to me by my company after 1 year completion. Its a Titan. lol:

Current wear - Longines LungoMare

Wow this is a nice thread, Although I dont remember the model numbers I will put little details.

Timex Ironman - Stolen recently (Analog with digital at lower end) was my favorite :(
Timex Ironman - It has completely digital background with analog arms - daily wear
Pierre Cardin - Formal wear watch
Fasttrack - Casual wear
Titan- Moon dial with pearl background - formal\daily wear
HMT - Typical golden silver combo, dont ask me why is it part of my collection. Sparingly worn :D
