Size was in context to 411 as it has 4 rulers and the printed values are very small.

This an inexpensive watch that I own.Got it at a great bargain on a credit card online shopping scheme.
The straps are genuine leather but not the original. The watch has a dual time feature.Comes really handy when you have a close friend abroad or when you are travelling abroad to check the time with your home time and vice versa.
They had a white dial model but went for the black.

JVH, is the Pilot actually still available? I've got one from 1967, still running strong but I am hoping to get me another. Apparently there was a marked drop in quality in the watches produced later, and I thought they had ultimately ceased production entirely. Hope I'm wrong though. Would you know if they still sell really (really really) old stock?

Cheers,
Rahul

re: Which watch do you own?

Rahul,

I don't know about the old stock. I guess they are still available through ebay and some antique and vintage shops. But the quality of the new models is not all that bad compared to the competition. Oh wait! Where the hell is the competition in manual hand winds? In fact, I would say you get really much more for what you pay for. My Pilot is apprx 1.5 yrs old and except for a scratch on the domed glass (which I got it fixed for peanuts), its running flawlessly and keeping pretty good time for a manual hand wind.

What I have definitely noticed is that the same models may have slightly inconsistent quality in finishing. The movements being the same, the time keeping is not impacted as such but the finishing of the lumes, logo and the writings are not very well executed. For that, I would advise you to buy one off the store and not go for online options. Like that you are sure of what you are buying rather than hoping for a scratch free and defect free product. And yes, Pilot is very much available in almost all the HMT stores. Its one of the more popular models along with Janata.

You might not believe me, but my grandad's 1967 still runs every single day on my wrist, rain or shine. The glass has been replaced twice (scratches and so on) and she runs true, but needs correction once a week by a few minutes. The lume on the dial has faded to a nice patina, but the stuff on the hands is almost gone. She's got a Bentex spring-loaded SS bracelet from 1972.

I'm looking to get her completely refurbished, and also buy a pair of new Pilots (white and black) soon. Would you recommend the HMT at Mekhri, or another one? I hope they dont say "Come tomorrow saar" or some such.

Will try to get some hi-res shots of my watch and post them here. She deserves to be shown off I think

Cheers,
Rahul

Appears to be very heavy corrosion on the casing. Is this a real Giordano? Or a poor Chinese copy?

HMT Bhavan near Mekhri circle normally have Pilots and as do most of the HMT stores. I saw atleast 2 of them during my last visit 2 weeks ago.

Sure, she deserves some really good pics :-)

Lovely watch and not to mention an awesome picture of it.

I love Edifice collection. They look almost alike but, has subtle differences across models.

Btw, how much does that cost?

Its the real deal. Its an orginal.Around 3 years old.I use it very roughly and almost practically everday.Hence the tarnishing.Besides i would not waste my money on buying a fake.Holds true for anything.

Seen this several times on online sites and was tempted to buy. Any idea if these are "original"? I guess if it has warranty it would be... but do they have good support network in India? And are the original Giordanos known for quality?

The corrosion or wear on the outer body of your watch is a matter of concern though. Is it not stainless steel? Since it has worn, it seems to be some kinda plating?

Very nice watch. Could you possibly mention the model?
