Re: Which watch do you own?

I am currently contemplating picking up a Cartier Santos and have some overseas trips coming up.

Can someone comment on the discounts (if any) offered in India or abroad for the Santos? Will help me make my decision

Always wanted one.
Finally got one.
There is NOTHING that even comes close.
And yes, it is (for me at least), one of those ‘serious milestone achievements’.
Ian Fleming wore one when it came out, in the 1950’s. He IS a particularly favourite author of mine.
And I am content, therefore, to be able to follow suit (at least in some measure), 70 years later.
Seriously, NOTHING comes close…
(Maybe only a Submariner 40mm…some day…)

Another one which I have always wanted.
Always been inspired by its Italian Naval heritage and Florentine Origins.
Again 40mm and the classic piece with all the History.
But purely for use as a Dress Watch.
Gorgeous piece with Classical proportions.
All these hard-earned pieces are treasured and cared for. Creating a sense of comfort, and personal satisfaction.

Omega Seamaster Professional. Co-axial Chronometer.

It is a lovely diver’s watch in its own right. Solid steel and very heavy. Big 42-43mm case etc.

This was the replacement to the one that got stolen. That, frankly was my favourite watch. The Seamaster Diver 300m James Bond watch, with the Blue Wave patterned dial and the arrow hands and the helium release on the side. I especially like the iconic seahorse engraving on the case back.

And that’s one of the reasons that made me buy one of these last remaining pieces which had that steel case back with the seahorse.

Because the newer ones now come with exhibition case backs.

However, this Omega Chronometer doesn’t get much wrist time from me because I have kind of grown into simply preferring watches with smaller case sizes which are lighter, yet equally functional.

Lovely watch! Iconic.

Even I have outgrown Chronometers and find them too busy for my liking, and prefer simple automatics. In love with the Orient Bambinos --- yet to get one.

Similar is now happening with divers. Sad. Not liking them. Got the green Omega SM in May, not enjoying it. I think I will stop at divers, after getting a Seiko Tuna.

Guess this happens once you get old. Simplicity is bliss. Dress watches with clean roman chapters.

The cartier boutiques aren’t offering any discounts. Authorised dealers are however offering slight discounts, around 5-10%. Watch dealers are offering greater discounts up to 15-20% depending on the model year.

Also, loving the watches posted here. Excellent collections!
Posting one of my favourites from the collection-

Perrelet Lab Peripheral.

A lesser known brand with great quality and an in house calibre.
The front mounted rotor is the usp of this timepiece.

Re: Which watch do you own?

Some more of my favourites. Sadly unable to give them much wrist time.

My love for watches is not defined by ‘Brand Cachet’ and the price paid, but by appealing design aesthetics, historical significance, iconic traits and good engineering. In summation the best watches are those with ‘Character’ and ‘Soul.’

I’d simply rather not be a ‘Watch Snob’.

1. Grandfather’s lovely old Omega Seamaster, via Dad, to me. Automatic, Gold Plated Case, lovely Plexiglass Dome cover. (Waterproof!) and Rich brown mock croc strap.

2. HMT Pilot 17 Jewels Parashock with Green Luminous “Radium” - tipping on the hands and markers. A real icon from the 1970’s.

3.Titan Quartz with Rectangular Gold Case with Leather Strap. Cartier Tank Inspired. Classically elegant and it makes for a very nice dress watch.

4. An Iconic Rectangular Tintin Quartz Watch (Tintin in the Land of the Soviets!) Don't miss Tintin, Snowy and the Red Star and Sepia Vintage look Dial!

Re: Which watch do you own?

I am planning to pick a Tissot T-Connect during my next travel to UAE in the last week of December. Can the members here suggest any stores in Dubai for good deals?

Suggest take a look at Ethos Watches. And Just in Time and Zimsons.
The prestige/ luxury watches are probably best priced in India vis a vis the world.

While these India sites quote 108K for Tissot T-Connect, Rivoli has a price of ~91K in UAE. I am trying to understand if there are more places in UAE, where I can get a better deal.

Yes the Indian sites and retailers quote whatever they quote. But here in India, with these retailers, there is always strong scope for negotiation and discounting. That’s been my experience these last 30 odd years. I suggest give it a shot. Their final agreed price may just pleasantly surprise you.

Call this bloke Syed of Ethos in Bangalore. Give him my Reference if you like. +91 85469-46932. I've been a customer of his for a while and he has always given his best.

Re: Which watch do you own?

I just got an Orient for myself. Just loved the play of light on the dial and rose gold indices and hands.

A really beautiful watch this Orient. I love the Dark Green and Rose Gold and Leather. Classical Roman Numerals and some complications.
While these are very reasonably priced abroad, they are much more expensive to buy in India.

Re: Which watch do you own?

^^ I have been eyeing the Orient watches for a while. Perhaps it will be cheaper to get it through some relatives visiting from the US if they first buy it from Amazon.

What is Orient Star? Is it a sub brand of the same company?
