It is better to carry a copy alternate proof of address as well like an electricity bill.

Ideally if no change in address, no need for police verification but it is on the officer descretion to put police verification required/not required against your application.

Now-a-day's they are trying out some process where they will dispatch the passport once approved, one will recieve the passport as well, post this one will get the call/msg frm nearest police station to come for verification. Had this scenario last month for my wife's passport renewal. We went to police station with the new passport and they went through the docs and then submitted verification report from their end. They said they will try calling/msging the person 3 times to come for verification, if they dont turn up they will mark not verified. Even though you would have recieved the passport if the police mention not verified against the app it will create problems in future they said.

To be safe I'm going to carry my 10th / 12th passing certificates, birth certificate, Aadhaar card and PAN card.

There's no change in my address since the current passport.

Carry xerox of the documents. Also if you have any running address proof like lpg bill, electricity bill etc then you can carry latest bill and copy. This is not must but just in case.

Usually, if there is no change in personal particulars, they may grant passport without police verification. But in some off chance, they may tick post police verification, specially if they think that personal appearance has changed from the past photo.

Police verification is now mandatory in case of passport renewal too, even if there is no change in particulars. This is the case in Mumbai atleast. Would advise you to keep track of passport status; usually one receives an SMS with the status. Sometimes the police station will not call you to schedule a home visit; in that case, you have to visit them with your proofs.

Answering my own question. a simple application on a plain piece of paper is sufficient for this change request. I applied for a renewal of PP and it was granted with a pre police verification. For the previous one, it was a post verification, so it surely seems random.

Question for Bangalore folks - the police verification is in HAL PS. Is there a demand/expectation for a bribe during the verification process? If yes, then how much. Sad to ask this, but I want to be sure as I don't remember if I paid anything the last time around.

Answering my own question, again

Visited the HAL PS for verification with all relevant documents. There was no demand, but an explicit expectation for a payment. Gave him ₹200, he said this is too less. Told him month end and that's all I had. He reluctantly agreed. This is pretty sad state of affairs, while I am in no real hurry for the passport, I am assuming they will delay the PV if the payment is not made for people who are in a hurry. If everything is as per aadhar, I don't see why a PV is needed for a renewal. I understand for a new PP, but for a renewal as well makes no sense.

Re: Passport Renewal Procedure

Passport renewal experience in Pune. Normal mode (Non-tatkal mode)

06-Feb was the appointment to visit the Passport Seva Kendra (slot booked on Jan 1st)
10-Feb called to police station for verification
06-Mar Passport delivered to home by speed post

Not a single penny spent on for verification or for the delivery.

The Police verification does not happen at home but we have to visit the police station along with all the documentation that was submitted in PSK + Aadhaar + Pan. (Dont know why we need to submit all the documents + some more. Another place where the data can leak)

The process at PSK was super smooth. I was out within 1 hours time with a SMS stating that passport is granted.

Re: Passport Renewal Procedure

My latest passport renewal (tatkaal) was lightning fast. Had appointment at PSK Kannur at 9.15 a.m yesterday, reached there at 8.50 a.m., and I was allowed inside. Completed the whole process in less than an hour.

Received granted status message at 9.40 a.m. and dispatch status by 1.20 p.m. with the tracking number. Received the passport today morning. Police verification already initiated and I will visit the station on Monday to check.

Re: Passport Renewal Procedure

My parent's passport is up for renewal so we were looking for an appointment. For context, their passport was last renewed in a different state. About halfway through the form, once we'd reached the Address page, we got a prompt that the registered RPO for the applicant and RPO per address entered on the form don't match.

It was then that we found out that on the Profile page, each applicant gets assigned a RPO. And there's no way to change this. We called the PSK Customer Care no. and the agent mentioned that the only way around this is to create a new account, and select the relevant RPO.

Is this really how it is? The last time any of us encountered such a scenario (change of RPO), we never got this prompt.

AFAIK that's how it is. It's better to create a new profile by selecting correct RPO.

Yes, there is no other option. I was struck in the same issue couple of years ago and ended up using my wife's email account which is tied to current state/city RPO.

Seems like it. I just filed my renewal application, and at some point in the process, there is a pop-up prompt to the effect I won't be able to change my RPO beyond this point. I'd done my previous renewal from the same preferred RPO, so I agreed to proceed.

Re: Passport Renewal Procedure

I didn't know about this rule that you can only submit 5 application using a login id. I had applied for myself (twice) and my kids and wife using my id and now i cannot make any more applications for renewal of my kids passport. Is there any way around it

I tried creating another id with my wife's id and i never got the activation link. I called the customer care and they said they can't send the activation link and i will have to wait for upto 7 days and if not try registering again

Seriously is this how it is? I remember things were so smooth 5 years back when i did it previously. Is there any way out of this quagmire?
