I just got my renewed passport. It is true that Aadhar is not a proof of identity for passport. When I went this time, they checked only the PAN card (proof of identity) and Aadhar card (proof of address). I had taken my degree certificate for ECNR, but they said that it is not needed, since the existing passport already has ECNR.

Just the old passport, and the two documents - nothing else was looked at.

That said, nothing wrong in carrying some key docs, just in case.

ECNR update is not done anymore. Hence the 10th (earlier degree) certificate is not required for that purpose anymore. Yes, for DoB etc it can be used.

This is for my son, passport needs to be re-newed, Iam not in India, only wife is in India, as per Document Required for Re-issue of Passport, it says to get Annexure D,
Annexure D says both parents signature needed..
what can be done for this, please let me know.. Thanks

Dealing with an issue. My wife applied for her passport's renewal. It took lot of time, but everything got done. However, we are facing with an issue with speed post, they never attempted delivery but sent it back. We went to post office and then regional post office. both said that they have not received it, and can't do anything. Regional post office mentioned that once my wife receives a message that her passport has gone back, she will have to go and file an application for second delivery attempt. She got a message yesterday and we went and applied for second delivery attempt.

I am writing this msg to check what should we do if speed post doesn't deliver again. I will work from home for next few days to be at home so that someone's at home to receive it. I can visit post office to check but don't know what else I can do beyond these 2 things.

Ideally they need both parents to be present. Otherwise, they need consent from the parent who is absent, so signed annexure is needed. Also it is advisable that your spouse carry a copy of your passport. Last time I was there for passport renewal, I saw the officer asking another person (his kid's renewal) to bring spouse who was absent. So be ready for some questioning.

Can you please confirm if it was delivered by Indiapost on second attempt?

Hi Hari, we got in touch with the postman through the building guard and that helped. Passport office and post office were not much of help. The reason why the passport was not delivered in the first go was because wrong address was mentioned on the speedpost envelop! Thankfully, the address inside the passport was correct.

Hi, I looked up in FAQ section, but wanted some clarity.
My passport expires on 7th June 2026.
However I want to renew it now so that I can get it updated with current house address.
The FAQ says that passport can be renewed only one year before expiry unless personal details needs updating.
Does change of address count? Or is it related to change of name alone?

Yes. Change of address counts as valid reason for reissue of passport. You can do it earlier than one year before expiry.

Thanks for sharing this. Mine got delivered two days after posting it here. They had dispatched two passports with the same tracking ID!

When I entered the tracking ID on Indiapost tracking website, it showed passport dispatch was two days before my application date. Therefore, it could not have been mine.

And destination pin code was not mine. I had filed grievance with central passport grievance cell, followed up regularly over phone with regional passport office, and raised the issue with both India Post and passport seva on Twitter.

Following your advice, I'd visited local post office as well, and had given them my contact number; in case my passport arrives. Nothing worked. India Post people kept telling me to check with passport seva, and vice versa.

Finally, I had to get a local guy involved, who had contacts in the passport office. Immediately the next day, the grievance I had filed earlier, was resolved. And the day after, we received the passport.

Apparently, it was not dispatched after printing in the first place. I cross-checked the new tracking ID on the envelope.

I'm guessing the person I'd spoken to, must have asked some insiders to check the dispatch office, where they had found my passport lying around. Tatkaal passports typically get delivered the same day. In my case, it took 4 days.

Consequently, flight prices had gone up by then, and I had to book air tickets with higher prices.

Most likely this is a bit too late, and you'd already applied for reissue of passport.

But just so you know, you don't need to do this.

Passports have a decade of validity, and within that period, one's residential address can very well change. Embassies are well aware, and they have well defined process as part of the visa application, to account for this.

My passport address was from a different city than Bengaluru. I had received Schengen visa twice on this passport, with no fuss.

Was asked by VFS global to submit current residence proof; such as notarized rental agreements covering the last 1 year, or LPG cylinder bill(s) in my name.

I had complemented that with making sure my current residential address in all documents were up to date (bank statements, employer NOC and leave sanction letter etc.) with my current address.

This is easy to do, if your present address is up to date with Aadhar. With Aadhar, updating address with employer and banks are quite easy, can even be done online.

To summarize, I didn't think it was worth spending 3500/- on Tatkaal passport just to get my address updated to current residence, which the embassy or consulate wouldn't care much about anyway.

Perhaps you were asked by some embassy or VFS / BLS to do so? If so, I'd be interested to know.

Hi Mr. Hari, thanks for responding.
I haven't applied for renewal yet.
My wife recently renewed with the new address and I want to renew my son's passport next. So I was thinking why not renew mine with latest address and then apply for my son's.
Do both parents passport need to have same address for child's passport?
FYI all our Aadhar has our latest address.

From what I can tell, from a brief scan of the passport seva portal documents advisor section, it is not mandatory to have both parents' passports be of same address. I wished to link the relevant section here, but the portal is down for maintenance at the moment.

However, it also says that on all matters of documentation, regional passport officer's decision is final. Which means, once you are inside PSK, the passport office can turn you away conjuring up stricter documentation requirements.

I'd experienced this rude and unpredictable behavior first-hand, so it's not entirely unreasonable to assume the same.

Reasonably speaking, as long as you and your wife can both establish your current residence with one of the POA (proof of address) documents for each of you; it shouldn't be an issue when it comes to getting a minor passport.

One pro-tip: if you get turned away by the passport office, asking you to bring other documents, you don't lose your right to appointment at PSK. I was able to reschedule my appointment from passport seva website, after procuring necessary documents, without having to pay anything extra on top of the initial 1500/- INR.

I'd say approach the passport office with relevant documents for your son. If passport office desk clerks fixate on the same address in both parents' passports requirement, ask them to give you an opportunity to revisit later with your updated passport.

However, there's also the matter of police verification, after passport application has been accepted.

In most cities, police would not look too closely, as long as they get their bribes.

My last passport was renewed in my hometown, where local police went through all my documentation with a fine tooth-comb. They started with closely examining my parents' passports, matching addresses etc. Mind you, I was no minor, so my parents' passports should not even matter, right?

Only after they were satisfied with the veracity of the documentation mountain, did they proceed to ask for their dues.

I have booked a passport renewal appointment in Pune PSK in February.
I've uploaded Birth certificate as proof of birth, and Aadhaar as proof of address.

What else would I need to carry to the PSK?
To be safe I'm going to carry my 10th / 12th passing certificates, birth certificate, Aadhaar card and PAN card.

There's no change in my address since the current passport.
I wanted to know if police clearance is needed again, irrespective of the same address in my current passport?

My signature has changed from the time I took the original passport. No changes in any other details. Is there any form/format to submit a change in signature when I get my passport renewed in a month from now?
